  1. Yes, we're always happy that Kitty keeps her still up and running. Nothing like a bit o' moonshine. Happy B-Day, Kitty and CMBO!
  2. I second Move it or Lose it. I also nominate Bruyeres for it's tight, effective close-quarters battles and nice briefings. A very "AARable" battle.
  3. Subvet, on CMHQ can be found a good Priest mod, complete with winter version, by Gordon Molek. That should help with Elsdorf! What's a Centaur IV? [ 06-06-2001: Message edited by: Bog ]
  4. Just wondering.... Has anyone made a scenario including Archers?
  5. Keep in mind that when a sharpshooter fires a single shot it isn't really a single bullet. Each "bullet" of ammo represents a burst. I know it's hard trying to fire a bolt-action rifle in a burst, but it just represents the sharpshooter firing off 3 or so rounds as fast as he can. I had a Crack FJ Sharpshooter in a building. As he hid, a 2 inch mortar team came into his sight about 100m away. He rose up, fired, killed the team. Next, an PIAT team wandered up. Blam. The team dies. Finally, an enemy sniper walks up in the same location. Another shot, and he dies. They ARE worth it. A sniper is great for taking out these support teams, and of course buttoning tanks. I thought of a funny scenario using only snipers. Sort of an "Enemy at the Gates" type situation.
  6. You can count me in. TCP/IP or PBEM is fine with me. E-mail is user853818@aol.com, I'm always on at least once a day.
  7. Wasn't it Reinhard Heydrich who was assasinated? He was the Deputy Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. All the rest of your info is correct, I believe.
  8. A note about demo charges/Gammons: Remember that they are pretty much useless against moving AFVs, so don't employ them in a roadside ambush. Use them to sneak up behind tanks and throw their charges at them.
  9. Besides being gamey, those crews will have little or no spotting power. The game was designed (read in the manual) so that crews would have limited spotting capibility. Also, they'll be Rattled and have Low ammo. Sending them to recon/spot is just asking for extra casualties.
  10. I see the next Gamey Tactic coming. Just stick a sharpshooter on each vehicle that can carry one. Any enemy troops that are hiding will HAVE to shoot at them. So? Anyone had similar experiences?
  11. The scenario was the ASL scenario The Big Cat's Den. Something similar happened to a Heer infantry platoon in the same battle(that scenario is sorta weird-it has Heer, SS, and FJ troops all in it). This makes me think it's not just a trigger-happy idiot.
  12. Here goes: I had a Veteran Fallschirmjaeger platoon hiding near a road. Suddenly a Canadian-British tank force hove into view ahead on the road, some 8 tanks strong, 3 Stuarts, 3 Achilles, and 2 Sherman V. 1 Sherman had a Vickers MG riding on it, and the other had a 2 inch mortar riding on it. The Shermans were leading the column. Suddenly two of the squads, at a distance of about 100m, began firing at the troops riding on the tanks. The mortar was wiped out in a coupla seconds, and the Vickers took 3 casualties. The results were predictable. Each squad was pounded into nothingness by the combined fire of 2 75mm, 3 76mm, and 2 37mm cannons. This is infuriating. These were VETERANS, mind you. They gleefully commited virtual suicide. Why? Is this just coding? Was I just very unlucky? More importantly, can this be fixed?
  13. I would rate it as excellent. Interface is easy to use, updates are regular and posted on the message boards. SuperTed has done a great job.
  14. I believe that Hitler's missing testicle was the result of a childhood encounter. Apparently, for reasons unknown, a goat bit it off. No, I am not kidding.
  15. Has anyone ever actually seen an 88mm FlaK fire at a Jabo? I don't really see what the advantages are to buying them instead of 88mm PaK guns. OT, what does "sic" mean when placed after a word?
  16. There is one thing about Combat Mission that stands out in terms of annoyance factor. Someone who designs a scenario and makes ALL the units on one side the same experience level. Is this really realistic? I understand that the exp. level of a squad is the average of all the squad members, but don't some soldiers usually stand out as veterans or raw recruits. The other thing is that having varied exp. levels makes you use different units for different things, for example I might put my most experienced Platoon at the Schwerpunkt of what I assume to be my opponent's path of advance, and leave my less experienced Platoons farther back. Anyone else dislike this?
  17. I have beer for everyone! Guinness, The Beer That EuroWarrior Cannot Spell Correctly. Sorry Eurowarrior, but you're under the legal age. Bog drops the case on the floor and hops into a Laz-E-Boy.
  18. Just wondering, did Guards units actually get different equipment? Perhaps theirs was better or in greater abundance than the average Red Army units. If they didn't have different equipment or uniforms, I see no point in making them a seperate group of soldiers.
  19. I am running Win 98 ®, with 600 Mhz, 2 Gb space, a Sony Celeron. I originally installed a new 81010 chipset driver, but after these graphical problems began appearing I switched back to the old 810 driver. I probably need to get the latest DirectX. Can you tell me where I can get it?
  20. After installing a new video driver, CM asked me to change the resolution. It made everything on the main screen large. My problem is that now, all the handheld weapons have little rectangles enclosing them. On some other things the graphics flicker or appear in double form. I've noticed this in some other applications too, like in a Star Wars game the stormtroopers have white rectangles surrounding them. Any idea about how to solve my problem?
  21. In one scenario I managed to make a full 8-man Ami paratrooper squad surrender. It was a Veteran unit too. Just goes to show that with a little surrounding and low morale, even experienced guys can surrender. I have noticed that the Germans shoot prisoners more often then the Allies, often an Allied unit will surrender, only to get shot down a few seconds later. Prisoners can also just be killed by stray bullets if they tarry in a firefight too long. One thing I thought was funny was when the last survivor of a para .30 MG team surrendered. Since he was about 100m away from any of my forces, and because it was night, right after shouting "Don't shoot, we surrender", he ran back toward his own lines!
  22. I'm assuming that the people who post use the same scheme for 251s and 250s. If not, say so. I use the tri-color version.
  23. Thanks for your help, guys, I got the pack running! Ahh....sweet graphics...Sherman nirvana. Now, I have another question. The FullPack didn't come with Canuck or Polish graphics, but it DID come with MS-DOS programs and icons for them. So...can I download earlier Bergman mods of Canuck and Pole Shermans and use them with the MS-DOS programs I got?
  24. Two things: One, why must I make shortcuts to the batch files? Two, I didn't understand what the Read me meant about the Sherman II and the US Shermans. Could someone tell me what I need to do in this case?
  25. All of you must think me an awful ass for being so completely ignorant, but I must confess that I haven't the slightest idea how do use the batch files. I read the Read Mes that came with the file, but they don't seem to make much sense. Can someone tell me what to do first?
