  1. Difficulty of AI is always player dependent. The SC series has progressively tuned the AI to be one of the best, in my opinion, considering the myriad of options presented to it. In my recent play vs. the AI I've found it very competitive. The real strength of SC games will always be multiplayer, but the AI has not been ignored. It will challenge you! One of the fun, new aspects to the Pacific game is of course the reliance on a strong navy. When playing as either side, that first major naval engagement is always building up. Where is the enemy fleet? How many and what type of ships will they have? Will they have more advanced fighters, longer range? I've found the AI able to bring the heat at sea and catch me off guard many times. Just when you think they're ignoring your expansion plans, they'll show up (in force) to keep you in check. Of course, until you've played it yourself will you really know if the AI is challenging for you or not, but don't think for a second it's been neglected in any way!
  2. Good in concept but I think this one could be filed under a minor detail that would just add an unnecessary element to gameplay. Bill pretty much nailed down the whys. You'll have to play the naval aspect to get an idea of how different it feels from other SC games. There'll be plenty other things you'll be worrying about when engaging in pitched carrier and naval battles.
  3. Whoa whoa, who you guys think I am, Warren Buffet? How about this. I'll hold another contest when one dollar is worth one euro.
  4. Udet has chosen to receive all three copies so the contest is now, really and officially, over. Congrats again! There was no significance to 744. First number that popped into my noggin'.
  5. I think is only a problem with the Global War mod, which seems to be better suited for multiplayer. After playing both sides, I've also noticed that USSR seems to be disadvantaged quite a bit from the standard Fall Weiss campaign. I don't even recally seeing a Russian Winter event. In any case, if you play Fall Weiss in the WaW expansion you will be going against a fantastic AI over SC2's. It doesn't compare to a good human opponent but it will surely give you a much better challenge than in the Global War mod. The global war mod is a lot of fun though, I've been playing it as multiplayer but I believe it needs some tweaking, the #1 issue being Russia.
  6. Haha, it's beginning to look that way! The number was 744.
  7. Muahahahaha Seriously though, anyone know how I can contact UDET? If I don't hear back I will have to move on to the next closest winner.
  8. The current winner is UDET! The original winner already has all three games and has declined the prizes, but thanks for participating AZGungho! Since I don't have UDET's e-mail to contact him, I am posting here in the hopes he sees this. UDET, please contact me at timskorn@gmail.com so we can discuss the details, congrats!! For everyone else, stay tuned, as UDET may not want all 3 games and in that case, the next person in line will get to choose a prize.
  9. CONTEST IS OVER!! I will be contacting the winner shortly and discuss the prize(s). If the winner decides to only take one or two of the three prizes, the remainder will fall to the next highest guess. STAY TUNED!
  10. Fantastic news. I'm really excited to see some multiplayer support, hopefully this will make finding and playing games much easier to do! Not sure how deep it will be, but it'd be great to have a built-in ladder/ranking system too.
  11. In just 4 days the contest will be over! If you know any friends, relatives or enemies who would even remotely be interested in a copy, send them on over before it's all...over!
  12. I also recommend having at least one Rocket unit deployed against Malta. They can continue depleting the garrison and port even in the winter months.
  13. Lin, the Russian readiness spikes in the original Fall Weiss as well if Germans take too long against Poland. I suppose Russia would feel if the Germans can't manage to take Poland, they'd be able to move in and take Poland for themselves.
  14. It may have been revealed from an intelligence hit. Even on the very first turn there is a chance for intelligence to pick up on hidden units.
  15. Awesome read, I'm pumped to play his mod now!
  16. I just went to the site, looks open to me. At my work I have a problem accessing that part of the battlefront site for some reason, and I don't know why. You may be having the same problem.
  17. Step up. Step lively! Have you ever wanted to win something for free, but it just took too much effort or money? Why does every contest require you to have some kind of talent, or forces you to "think" about what you're doing in order to win? What happened to the days when free things came easy? Welcome friends, to an oasis of freedom from anything that requires effort. Welcome to the "Ridiculously Easy Strategic Command Contest"! Rules are simple. Pick a number between 1 and 10,000. Reply to this thread with your guess. ONLY ONE GUESS or you'll get slapped with a trout and also be disqualified. I have picked the winning number already, you just have to get lucky, punk. When the contest ends on June 6th, 2008 the person closest to the number I chose will win a copy of Strategic Command 2, Weapons and Warfare and Patton Drives East. If you don't want or need all three, just choose which one you want and the rest will fall down to the next closest guesses until all the prizes are gone. In the case of any ties we'll simply do another 'guess a number' to determine the winner, or a face-off at Thunderdome, whichever is preferable. Keep non-guess posts to a minimum. Please no dissertations on why you think hexes should be in the game or ramblings about historical levels of coal in Germany on March 11th, 1944. Good luck!!! NOTE: This contest is NOT affiliated with Battelfront or Fury Software so don't contact them for any reason regarding this. All rules and prizes are strictly provided by myself. I hold sole responsibility for the contest, the rules, the results and the prizes. That, of course, is a disclaimer in case I decide to keep all your guesses for myself and run off. 18. @Honch 1. World map to match scale of Fall Weiss is a good idea. 2. A-bomb: unnecessary. 3. Definitely a good idea, which would likely combine with #7 (Marines). 4. Not sure if it's a big issue or not. Imagine having the ability in SC2. How often would the Kriegsmarine be out in the Atlantic to disrupt shipping lanes? If they're already out there, chances are their subs are too. 5. I like the idea, but am against having the ability to produce lots of cheap, replaceable units that could simply be used to clog the map and force an opponent to spend months simply chewing through a bottleneck. 6. Not necessary for the scale, IMO. 7. Certainly a welcome addition for a Pacific theater, and also for the ability to assault tiles from sea. 8. Haven't played CEAW, but is this similar to HOI where you create a group of units and then attach a leader to them? I like seeing the HQ units and they also act like supply wagons, which the new way would alter how that system works entirely. 9. I'm not a fan of adding oil. If someone can propose a fun way of implementing it, and not because it was a historical necessity (can anyone say slippery slope?), I'm sure everyone would love to hear it. The magic of SC, if anyone hasn't noticed, is MPP's. It represents everything from manpower to ball bearings to oil, coal and steel. You only get so much and can only do so much with it. MPP's, in itself, is the limiting factor on what you can build, research, reinforce, use diplomacy, etc. If you have a lot then you can afford to buy and reinforce more expensive units like level 5 tanks. Naturally, when you're running short, you're going to get cheaper stuff. MPP's abstacts all of those minutae so we don't have to adjust sliders or production values, or be forced to fight over specific resources in the same location every game to have a chance at winning. I'm not saying this way can't be done, but it changes the core design of the SC series entirely which has always been "easy to learn but difficult to master."
  19. I got a good laugh out of this and I don't even like the Canucks, OR hockey!
  20. Yes, you've come in to the series at a great time. Compared to when SC2 was originally released the AI has progressed by leaps and bounds. As Allies on Expert, without AI experience bonuses, I get a very competitive game. Between that and PBEM games you'll be busy for a long time.
  21. Welcome Mr. Radish! A lot of us here have been playing this series for years. It really is a testament to how great the games are. If you need help, or a beatdown from someone, this is the place to come. From what Hubert has hinted at in the forums, it seems a global war WaW version is in the works. I have to say though, I'm almost done playing my first 1vs1 global war map for SC2 and it's a blast. In fact, you'll find that WaW doesn't necessarily obsolete SC2. WaW is great and adds a ton of new things, but you'll find that it's also refreshing to go back to the simpler yet still very strategic SC2, particularly for multiplayer games. As for PDE's release, I don't think it matters in terms of whether to buy WaW or not. In my opinion all three games are worth owning and playing, and for different reasons. The MP experience is fantastic. The AI is great, but MP is where it's at. You can TCP/IP, but personally I enjoy PBEM. You can have multiple games going and play at your leisure. Most turns don't take more than 10 minutes to complete too. If you already enjoy the demo, you'll love the game.
  22. 1. Yes there is, 50% penalty. 2. I don't think so, not from what I see in the manual anyway. 3. That I've always wondered about, but from my experience...no, although they still benefit from the increased entrenchment forts offer. 4. Depends which conditions are in place for the script, but I would say no in most cases, even if it were scripted it would probably be a much lower possibility to occur if Allies had already DoW'd.
