  1. I think it is good the way it is now wait till you play the full game and see if this topic comes up again I did not attend any previews and am not a beta tester, BUT I have good feeling this aspect of the game will "feel right" in the full version -tom w
  2. I have a VERY good feeling, I think this guy knows what he is talking about. His words are as good as an "Adminstrator" for me -tom w [ September 17, 2002, 12:04 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  3. there was a VERY Firm... "NO! and don't bring it up again" sometime ago from the Main Man -tom w
  4. If that is true (and I'm sure it is) ..... THAT is NOT my idea of the "realism" of Extreme Fog of War Perhaps they are already looking into this one. -tom w
  5. I recall Steve saying in a recent post in reply to pictures posted from the upcoming WW2 RTS (from the makers of IL-2) that he thought the rewrite would exceed their level of graphic detail. If you have ever seen screenshots from the Russian product, they are awesome. The game is limited to 16 units, apparently, so the graphic edge yields to playability... Sounds to me like Steve wants his cake and to eat it also! Fine by me. </font>
  6. They're self-opionated, surly, unhelpful, believe they still have an empire and think they're the most important country in Europe. Much like us Brits, come to think about it....... .</font>
  7. slipped off the front page again. OK who else is so tired of the demo's for CMBB they are not playing them anymore? I am TOTALLY enjoying a GREAT PBEM in CMBO 60 minutes, HUGE map (its a Gorgeous MAP!) Many thousands of points worth of forces (I think) The ASL Battle of Soumont, against Elvis I'm the Allies and its one hulluva a good cat and mouse game! (oh yeah, he has almost all of the Cats  ) -tom w
  8. Whiz-bang crapola IV - Wet Attack was the stated favourite by Steve.</font>
  9. Now the Real question is (Back to the original BTS Manifesto) What Kind of a game does Steve and Charles and Matt and Dan and Martin want to play in the Summer of 2005? Since they make games that THEY themselves dream of playing (like the CMBO breakthrough!), then lets ask those folks what is their Dream Game? (lets assume in the Dream Game of the Future they have found a workable and playable way to impliment Relative Spotting), NOW..... What kind of Cool New Game ( the NEXT big thing) do they Dream about? Med? North Africa? ETO? (did it two years ago) (Scratch Pacific, thats OUT!) East Front/Russia? (oh just finished spending two years on that one! Doh!) Early War years (All Blitzkrieg, not much play balance there (is there?) ) Campaign options? What else is there? Your thoughts? -tom w [ September 16, 2002, 10:50 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  10. "I think CMII should use all the info and data from all the models and units and time frames of BOTH CMBO and CMBB and put it ALL into a NEW BIG robust KILLER game engine (the CMII rewrite) to be released sometime in late 2004 or 2005 but that's just me DREAMING!" BUT..... Would that sell well? Maybe they need ALL of CMBO and ALL of CMBB and new units and terrain tiles from the Med and North Africa, with less emphasis on new units and terrain, ( a few minor additons) and more focus on the NEW Relative Spotting Game engine that would Cover the ETO The Eastern Front and the Med and North Africa? Sure I'm Dreaming And HELL YES I want it ALL What I really want is CMBO in the ETO in the Next Engine with all the CMBB goodies AND (THE MAIN Attraction! ) Relative Spotting! and HELL YA I'd pay $50.00 US (inflation) for it in 2.5 years ! -tom w [ September 16, 2002, 10:39 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  11. in another thread I posted this about the chance to update CMBO to be like CMBB: (still relevant here) If I thought they could "whip off" a CMBO upgrade to the level of CMBB for the ETO in the time frame of CMBO, I would be happy to pay the full $45.00 U.S. for the new game. They say they can't and they won't so lets move on to CMII and hope it covers some other interesting time and theatre of WWII. I think CMII should use all the info and data from all the models and units and time frames of BOTH CMBO and CMBB and put it ALL into a NEW BIG robust KILLER game engine (the CMII rewrite) to be released sometime in late 2004 or 2005 but that's just me DREAMING! -tom w
  12. Just how "extreme" is EFOW? still wondering if the first CMBB patch will address any of these issues -tom w
  13. With regard to the other thread this one might be interesting "Easy way to fix borg spotting" http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=000718 I don't think there is ANY "easy" way to fix Borg Spotting or Steve and Charles (and or some opinionated Combat Mission fanatic) would have figured it out by now IMHO The engice re-write with Relative Spotting programed in from the get-go is the only real solution. (again IMHO) -tom w [ September 15, 2002, 07:46 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  14. yes still too much info in EFOW IMHO -tom w
  15. found this one WAY down on the 11th page still no response from BFC on the EFOW issue  -tom w
  16. I have been wondering if they plan any patches or updates for after the release to "tighten" all the "extra" info like this that STILL shows up in EFOW. I would call that a BUG for sure in EFOW. Good going Tar, that was a good find and well documented with the pic, nice work! Any comments from Steve or BFC on EFOW???? thanks -tom w

  18. Well if you don't mind buying USED then even a YEAR from now you will be able to get a FAST mac to run CMBB. I prefer the used market. New costs too much so when the NEW machines that come out are Fast and won't boot to OS 9 then people will sell the old machines (the FAST ones they are buying right now that run OS 9) and then you can pick up a good deal. What is largely being missed in all this is that EVERY mac that is sold before Dec 31 2002 will run OS 9 and Combat Mission (either flavour). SO whats the big deal, you want a FAST mac that will run CMBO/CMBB? You want to buy it this time next year? No problem buy a used mac that is 12-18 months old from some "early adopter" that has to buy the latest Mac that only boots into OSX. This is NOT a big issue because Apple is selling REALLY fast Mac's RIGHT NOW that run OS 9 and they will be GREAT USED machines to buy for CMBB in the next 18- 24 months. Sure the new Mac's won't boot into OS 9, but it is NOT the end of the world by any means. if you are looking for Used Macs Try: www.cpused.com they are in toronto and have a complete price list updated every day. http://www.cpused.com/cpudaily.htm so there will be FAST macs on the used market 12-18 months from now that will be Perfect for CMBB. -tom w
  19. good point! "They may not have the largest gaming audience, but they do have one of the largest dedicated audiences who are willing to pay for a good game. Where probably 99% of people play CMBO with a legitimate copy of the game I'd say probably closer to 50% of Quakers legitimately own the game. " I would guess you could say more than %50 of Quake type gamers (twitch) might get their games by "other means" than actually buying it. And I think that you are correct in suggesting a much, much HIGHER percentage of CMBO players actually bought the game from BFC. and This is a good thing™ -tom w [ September 12, 2002, 11:07 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  20. thanks for the question Rear turret (m)| Side turret(m) |Front turret (g) Rear u. hull(g)| Side u. hull(g)|Front u. hull(vg Rear l. hull(g)| Side l. hull(m)|Front l. hull(vg armor protection: m = moderate g = good vg = very good and thanks for the reply -tom w
  21. Thanks Steve GREAT thread needs a Bump Steve says that CMII the rewrite is only "two years away" (I'm still betting on the early summer of 2005, but thats just my Doubting Thomas ™ nature ) thanks -tom w
  22. Topic: How I will play CMBB With EFOW on ALWAYS And with Extreme diligence and due Caution -tom w
  23. I sent this in I doubt it will do any good but I edit the other complaint letter and complained some more. Everyone who reads this thread should send in some form of complaint. Use this letter and just edit it a little and complain some more to them. "I am an avid player of a made on a Mac game called Combat Mission made by an enthusiastic, small and independant company called Battlefront(.com). (BFC) They started out as two guys and released Combat Mission about 2 years ago for BOTH the MAC and PC at the ame time, the Game was a huge, RUN AWAY hit in the wargamer community. I bought the original game Combat Mission:Beyond Overlord (three years in development, but they were caught out when Apple changed 3D specs to Open GL) when all I had was a Umax Pulsar and to due the demands of the game I chose to upgrade to a G4 DP450 and purchase an aftermarket ATI Radeon graphics card. Battlefront are due to release in next couple of weeks a new game Combat Mission: Berlin to Barbarossa (CMBB) based on the same engine as CM:BO. see this thread for more info: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=026076;p=2 While the new game ( two years in development) will run on my current machine in OS9 (and in OSX only by disabling RAVE and getting to run in Software Emulation in Classic - v poorly), I was seriously considering to upgrade to a new G4 tower Mac in 2003 - Until I saw that Macs will not boot in OS9 which obviously will close a door on my being able to play my favourite game. Please can you offer some suggestions/alter specs so I can enjoy in the near future the best Macs working in harmony with only recently released 3rd party software. I am seriously dissappointed the OXS does not support RAVE game and when you attempt to run Combat Mission CMBO and CMBB in Classic it does not work because there is NO RAVE support for Games in Mac OSX classic." -tom w [ September 10, 2002, 10:32 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
