  1. When I first started reading about Combat Mission on this forum (the old CMBO forum) I recall some comments from Steve and Charles about how BAD the armour penetration model in SL and ASL was AND that they wanted their game to reflect reality with MUCH great fidelity. So they have a TOTALLY different armour penetration model (the CMBB one is modeled on REAL world physics) I never played ASL but from what I have read about it, it should not be used as the baseline of what you think is correct and historically accurate in CMBB because it lacked accuracy and fidelity in its armour penetration model. I have no doubt BFC has their facts right on this issue in CMBB (IMHO) -tom w
  2. What is the fastest Apple laptop you can play CMBB/CMBO on with the BAD psychadelic graphics? Is the 500mHz TiBook ok? how about the iBooks (low end video cards)? My question is what is the optimal Mac Laptop for CMBB? (being that the latest TiBooks that will still boot into OS9 are so FUBAR'd! has anyone thought about this? any suggestions I am on a 400 mHz G3 (black laptop) now and the graphics are GREAT (LCD) but the game is slow. I have tested CMBB on a 867 mHz TiBook and its SCREAMING faster but it all looks like those Black Light graphics I posted on the first page of this thread. I have not been able to make ANYTHING work on the 867 TiBook I have been "practicing" on. None of the suggestions in this thread help the graphics situation on the 867 TiBook. It boots into OS9 NO problem and the game is Stable and Fast (VERY fast Crunch times, double what I am used to) BUT the graphics look like Black Light MUSH Who is playing CMBB on a TiBook that works? Thanks -tom w [ February 02, 2003, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  3. Just play Panzer Elite That is exactly what that game does. PE is like Iron Man Rules (Frankco's Rules) in CMBB (View 1 ONLY) and when your tank (ALL WWII ) engages the enemy you can choose to be the gunner and it is HARD to get a hit if you set everything to "REALISTIC" settings! Good Luck -tom w
  4. I agree it is a SAD state of affairs. I will miss playing CMBB but I think I will have to leave it behind when the give/lend me my next new Mac laptop that won't boot into OS9 that is coming this summer and it will be OSX only. This OSX only issue really bites! -tom w
  5. thanks Karl that is a GREAT synopsis of the situation -tom w
  6. I thought the latest "new" CPU chips would not work with old OS9 code. it is that simple?, I thought they wanted to pair down the chip hardware in the CPU so it only needs to know and deal with and compute OSX, this is supposed to make the chip more efficient and OSX faster. does that sound right? -tom w [ January 31, 2003, 01:38 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  7. its a good suggestion anyone else try it. This Damn OSX thing is starting to be a REAL pain with CMBB! grr.... -tom w
  8. I can see it now that is some pretty obvious banding Does the game handle 16 bit images? -tom w
  9. CMBB - Circus Mission - Beyond Barnum Good thing Elephants and Tigers are already in the game, shame they took the clown cars out. </font>

  14. What? Classic is os 9 running inside OS X. You have OS X booted and are running CMBB in Classic? Or do you mean you have the machine booted back into OS9? which many people call classic.</font>
  15. Thanks for the post and update. Its good to know you folks are aware of this issue and watching this thread and the Tech Support forum. -tom w
  16. you are refering to an Nvidia card problem in your iMac try this ""For the others, here is a more detailed 'how-to' : When file downloaded from Apple site and mounted (should be done automatically), you find on your desktop a disk image containing the install program provided by Apple. The name of this virtual disk is 'NVIDIA driver Update'. Lauch TomeViewer and select menu 'File/Open...'. With the file chooser, go to the desktop, then disk 'NVIDIA driver Update', then folder 'Installer Files', then 'NVIDIA Driver Update' and finally folder 'Installer Files'. Select the file 'Tome' and click 'Open'. A window displaying the 6 driver files should appear. Select all the files (Cmd-a) and click on the upper left icon of the window. Choose the destination folder and click 'All' (if you already have made a copy of your former drivers, you can directly select the 'Extensions' folder of your 'System' folder). That's it." I think this will work for you as well " this solution fixed my friends iMac problem. from: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=003389 the pics I posted are from an ATI card problem on a new 867mHz TiBook. I have seen a different problem on the iMac, those bad graphics look different than the ATI bad graphics. good luck -tom w

  18. this trick worked on the iMac of my friends but that was an invidia problem not an ATI problem like the current issues with the TiBooks see this thread: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=003244 for more ATI woes and srceen shots -tom w [ January 19, 2003, 02:25 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]

  21. "I must stop reading this forum before I get so discouraged to stop playing..." Oh it can't be that bad..... Just try playing a game of CMBO without all the new orders (WHAT? no cover arc?!) and then you will remember how much you really enjoy CMBB ! -tom w
  22. "A hunt command with a "retreat after firing" is exactly what I think scoot-and-shoot should have been" I like that idea.... Hunt to contact Aquire LOS Target Fire ONCE Reverse OUT of LOS (immediately ) I am looking for the SOP called HATFR (thats HATfir) New Command for the rewrite !! now that is the SOP I am looking for! -tom w [ January 19, 2003, 10:53 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
