  1. Guys, I can understand his position...he lost family there. I can understand his feelings. He replied to a topic I posted, and did not say he would ban it...he just feels a bad subject for a scenario. I totally understand that point. However, I am torn...i know the saying "Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it". Masada is a similar situation, and Isreal to this day honors the fight there. Still undecided... but someone is looking over the scenario to see if it honors or not... Rune
  2. Guys, Here is the main briefing. Remember, this is NOT the Warsaw uprising in Late 1944, this is a real earlier uprising in April 1943. Title: Ghetto Uprising Type: German Assault Date: April 19th, 1943 Location: Warsaw Ghetto Region: Central Weather: Clear, Cool Terrain: City Wind: Breeze from the W Turns: 20+ Author: Tim 'Rune' Orosz Best Played AS: Two Player or as Allied Partisans against the AI. Background: Summer of 1942, reports of the people being removed from the Warsaw Ghetto and being sent to the Camp at Treblinka where they were killed, reached the Z.O.B. (for the Polish name, Zydowska Organizacja Bojowa, which means Jewish Fighting Organization). Their leader was a 23-year-old, called Mordecai Anielewicz, and he called for armed resistance. Weapons were smuggled into the ghetto, and plans were made. The Warsaw ghetto at this time was not one location. A wall that was over 10 feet high, topped with barbed wire, and closely guarded to prevent movement between the ghetto and the rest of Warsaw, walled off sections of the city from the surrounding communities. Jan. 1943, when Germans troops came in to send more people to the camps, they were met with gunfire, and withdrew a few days later. April 19th, German Troops and Police came to ship the remaining inhabitants to the camps. They met with heavy resistance. Semi-historical: about 800 points. Sources: http://www.us-israel.org/jsource/biography/Anielevich.html http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/wgupris.htm Author's Notes: I hope this scenario honors their brave fight against impossible odds. This is the FIRST uprising that occurred in Warsaw. The resistance lasted nearly a month. 56,000 were captured with over 7000 being shot, while the remainder were sent to the camps.
  3. Actually there were two uprising, this was the first uprising, so no Sturmtigers. I did not know there was a Warsaw Uprising for ASL, I have since searched and found it. Maybe a line in the text to play two player or play as partisans against the AI. I will edit the briefing tonight. I would like one or two volunteers to play it against each other, and let me know if it should be released. Obviously no, the partisans are scatted in house to house fighting, not lined up in front of trenches. So...two volunteers to play against each other please... In the meantime, I am still split on this...I see the points raised...on the other hand, to teach new generations about the bravery shown there, against hopeless odds. Should it not be honored the way Masada still is? I REALLY don't know.... Rune Rune [ December 04, 2002, 04:21 PM: Message edited by: rune ]
  4. Are you overclocking the processor? CMBB is math intensice and over clocking can cause a problem. Can you also give more detail on the error message you get? Rune
  5. Yes, it is why i asked for opinions. Obviously I will have the final say...but not sure if people would do exactly what you say. I have been giving this thought obviously, and have not been able to reach a conclusion. Obviously, intention was to honor the fighters...but you are also correct that some would want to level the ghetto. I will continue to read opinions before I make mine...and since I have had this scenario done for the CD release, if I haven't made up my mind in three months, I doubt I will make a fast decision anyway. Thanks for your opinion. I definitely will consider it. Rune
  6. There are two medium sized ones in the 5 that are playable. There are about 5 small scenarios done, but again, waiting to be used in tourneys...so no release until the tournaments are complete. Rune
  7. demoss, The reasoning is most definitely in the briefing...but this is very much an international game...not sure if the briefing would even be read...much less if the user could understand my English. Rune
  8. All, I had ready for the cd release, a scenario based on the historical uprising in Warsaw. [The earlier uprising] I did not have it go on the CD for 2 reasons... 1. For obvious reasons, the partisans defending had to be russian and not Polish. Why? There are no Polish partisans in the game. 2. The scenario was made to honor the courage of these fighters, fighting a hopless battle. However, not sure how the scenario could be taken...and definitely do not want to insult anyone. The few people who have seen it, enjoyed the fight. My question to all, should I release it? Just give it to the few that may ask? Scrap it all together? Rune
  9. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the two huge ones are historical, and feature infantry in action. My favorite is Fall Blau, the map took forever to build and get it right. Although no factories or sewers [the mountains didn't have them ] I think the map turned out rather well. It can be used for a great quick battle. I do recommend playing it against a human opponent. My thanks to Lindan, WWB, Harv, JWXSpoon, Kingfish, Scott_B, Warphead, Lorak, and anyone i might have missed for testing them. Without you testers....things would be a lot different and harder. You have my thanks always. Treeburst...I think I may have melted poor Kingfish's processor with one of them. That's a sign of a really big scenario. Someone asked if i do smaller battles, yep, got a few done...but they are to be used in tourneys, and will not be released until the tourneys are over. Rune
  10. Foxbat and Vixen, This may help you out... http://www.battlefield.ru/library/bookshelf/stats/stat11.html This one also has some great information... http://www-cgsc.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/glantz2/glantz2.asp Rune [ December 04, 2002, 09:20 AM: Message edited by: rune ]
  11. zi just got the PC Gamer, and Mr. Trotter reviews both GI Combat and CMBB. Bottom line of the CMBB review: 90%!!!! Rune
  12. For the naked Vixen.... http://www.freeport-tech.com/WWII/index.htm There were three types of Tank Brigades. The first type had a Tank Regiment, consisting of one heavy-medium and two light tank battalions, plus a Motor Rifle Battalion in its order of battle (overall 93 tanks). Two weeks later the Tank Regiment was changed and consisted of one heavy-medium and one light tank battalion plus a motor-rifle battalion (overall 67 tanks). The third type was created when it was discovered, that two HQ's (brigade and regimental) were too much for such a small sized unit (tank brigades often were not able to react flexibly to sudden threats). To&E was simplified, having 2 Tank Battalions and a Motor Rifle Battalion inside a brigade without a regimental HQ. Both types of Tank Brigades also had a recon company. There were one heavy-medium tank battalion (5 heavy, 11 medium, 20 light tanks) and one light tank battalion (31 light tanks). Sometimes light tank companies of heavy-medium battalions were rearmed with medium tanks when additional equipment was available. Heavy tanks usually means KV-1 or the very rare KV-2; medium means T-34; light most probably means T-60, BT or T-26, sometimes T-40 or rare T-30/T-40S. The recon company usually includes two or three platoons of armored cars (10-15 BA-10 and BA-20) and a recon motorcycle platoon. Later, on February 15th, 1942, a new T0&E was approved for the tank brigade - ID number 010/345 in Russian To&E coding system - consisting of two tank battalions with two tank companies each (overall 46-48 tanks). But that is another story. That is what I found so far... Rune
  13. Gentlemen, Just comes on, 4 posts, all on this thread trying to stir up a problem that doesn't exist except in his mind. Gentlemen, I present to you LFOOL the Troll. Rune
  14. See my post on what the Russians thought of the IS2...in the original thread. It was designed to be used as a breakthrough tank. They were supported by tanks and tank destroyers if they met up with enemy tanks. http://www.battlefield.ru/is2_2.html and the other sections on the IS2 tell the story. Only occasionally did the JS-2 fight with Tigers and Panthers, or King Tigers. Rune
  15. Berli, Berli, Berli , If I wanted to whine, I would just do impressions from the outer board. I still fight on with what I was given...and caused his tanks to withdraw twice. Not bad for a Verdun like Charge over open grass. Oh wait...that's right...you cannot do that in CMBB. Silly me... However, I did want to correct Marlow and his definition of AT Assets. A german with a rubber band is NOT the anti-tank weapon that a Finn with a toothpick is. I will consider this a moral victory if I have anyone survive.... Rune
  16. Marlow you incredible untergrog...a Armored Car with a Machine gun is NOT, repeat NOT a anti-tank asset. 2 MG Armored cars and one HT with a pop gun is NOT the same as a Tank Corp. Yes folks, you read that right, infantry with NO at assets, and 2 ACs with a mg and an HT with a pop gun that shoots a cork vs a Tank Corp. Yet...the infantry are still assaulting. Twice his tanks had to withdraw, or face the humiliation of my troops placing slogans on their tanks with paint. [it is all they can do]. Rune
  17. For those who say it cannot be done, may I suggest playing von Launchert as the Russians. The correct Russian tactic to use would be to rush the tanks forward and use the terrain to get to the dry creek bed. Hmm...I have played this against the AI and against other players, as well as everyone who tested the scenario. Not once did the AI cause all the tanks to withdraw...that is a very incorrect statement. Instead of saying it can not be done, it HAS been done, successfully, and to those interested, try it yourself! Rune Rune
  18. Steve and those interested in the ISU-122. According to the Russian Sources themselves, the ISU-122 was designed to be a heavy breahthrough assault gun, and NOT a tank destroyer. While it did function in that regard, it did so at LONG RANGE, and was not used short range where the rate of fire gave it a distinct disadvange. For those interested in the Russian viewpoint, please read the web site: http://www.battlefield.ru/isu122_152.html Note that Valera points out that a westerner incorrectly called the isu-122 a tank destroyer. It is incorrect and it was used in the same role as the ISU-152 which did NOT even have AP ammo. Rune
  19. Does this now mean Joebob will leave the MBT for at least a month? Well...we can hope... In turn updating... The Bastidge Marlow has used his WWI crack of CMBB, and assigned me to attack. I have infantry, infantry, and well...infantry. I do NOT have a single AT asset. What does he get? Why tanks of course, and on the defense. To make things more interesting for me....the map has 1 small spot of trees only, BEHIND HIS LINES. So far my brave infantry still attacks, but cannister makes me know how Pickett felt at Gettysburg. "Sir, I have NO division". I will, however, continue in the quest to try to take out a single tank of his Tank Corp.... Rune
  20. Laxx, Good idea, you just missed one thing, but an important one. During the two years of coding, it HAS to be coded on an older pc...why? Cause the newer technology DOESN'T exist yet. You can make educated guesses, but guesses none the less. So, even if they rushed out and bought brand new 3.06gig rigs with nvidia 4600 cards, it would still be coded on something that is 2 years old when the game is released. Who knows what changes in DirectX or opengl will happen by then. You cannot code for the highest end pc, rather select what you will accept as the lowest end pc. All that being said, I think some of your points are well made. Mult-player with multiple people per side. Fast internet connections, and wo knows, maybe a dedicated CM server for finding opponents. T&L for sure, smaller size per tile. Better models I am sure, as I know Krazydog and the gang will amaze us even more. We will have to wait and see. I am expecting to be wow'ed when the time comes. Rune
  21. Better yet...rahter then fighting the clueless, I did something much more evil... I sent him a bunch of rune scenario's that are about to be released, to cause a meltdown of his computer. Enjoy..... Rune
  22. It is a tutorial. Play with the computer default location. It is that easy. Rune
  23. First, it depends on the year and month, the Soviet formations changed a lot. However, A tank Corp in Spring of 1942 had: Two Tank Brigades One Motor Rifle Brigade This broke down to: KV tanks 20 T34 tanks 40 [8 of these were reserve and rarely did the unit have them] Light Tanks 40 The Motor Rifle Brigade broke down into: Three Motorized infantry battalions Each Battalion had: Three Motorized Rifle Companies Each Company had: THe rifle platoons MG Platoon The 32 tanks broke down this way: Nedium Tank Company: 3 platoons of 3 tanks plus HQ 1 tank for Battalion HQ 1 Tank for Brigade HQ By Feb 1944 rolled arounf, the TO&E changed to include: Three tank Brigades Heavy Assault Gun Regiment Assault Gun Regiment Light assault gun Regiment Motorized Rifle Brigade Changes were literraly by month. Most of the units took a long time before matching the TO&E, and many never had all their support elements like motorcycle recon and etc. The Units with KVs, that still had them [few did] would put them in the Heavy Assault Gun Regiment. Hope this helps... Rune
  24. CMBB puts nothing into any other folder, nor does it write to the registry. This is for the version bought here, if that is where you got it, then just delete the folders. Not sure ont he CDV version since I don't own it. Rune
  25. And for everyone else. I created a huge infantry battle of a historical attack against one of the Hedgehogs at Kursk. The Germans attack a fortified position across OPEN ground. Amazinly, in the play tests, the Germans do make it through barbwire and other surprises and took the hedgehog. According to some, this would be impossible. I will send the scenario to anyone who wants to play it from the German side. See for yourself if proper tactics can do what is claimed impossible. Rune
