John Kettler
This was a finalist in a big deal nature photography competition, but I have another interpretation. The new extreme low altitude air defense system is having teething problems. Clearly, the IFF still needs work, and discriminating military from civilian traffic simply isn't working at all. John Kettler
In case you thought you had a handle on the various emotions, this should disabuse you of the notion. Spot reading sure did a number on me! Have to admire his industriousness, for this list is from countries all over the world. Sonder: The realization that each passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own. Opia: The ambiguous intensity of Looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable. Monachopsis:The subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place. Énouement: The bittersweetness of having arrived in the future, seeing how things turn out, but not being able to tell your past self. Vellichor: The strange wistfulness of used bookshops. Rubatosis: The unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat. Kenopsia: The eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that is usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet. Mauerbauertraurigkeit: The inexplicable urge to push people away, even close friends who you really like. Jouska: A hypothetical conversation that you compulsively play out in your head. Chrysalism: The amniotic tranquility of being indoors during a thunderstorm. Vemödalen: The frustration of photographic something amazing when thousands of identical photos already exist. Anecdoche: A conversation in which everyone is talking, but nobody is listening Ellipsism: A sadness that you’ll never be able to know how history will turn out. Kuebiko: A state of exhaustion inspired by acts of senseless violence. Lachesism: The desire to be struck by disaster – to survive a plane crash, or to lose everything in a fire. Exulansis: The tendency to give up trying to talk about an experience because people are unable to relate to it. Adronitis: Frustration with how long it takes to get to know someone. Rückkehrunruhe: The feeling of returning home after an immersive trip only to find it fading rapidly from your awareness. Nodus Tollens:The realization that the plot of your life doesn’t make sense to you anymore. Onism: The frustration of being stuck in just one body, that inhabits only one place at a time. Liberosis: The desire to care less about things. Altschmerz: Weariness with the same old issues that you’ve always had – the same boring flaws and anxieties that you’ve been gnawing on for years. Occhiolism: The awareness of the smallness of your perspective. Source John Koenig, writer and creator of The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Am not much into pet pics, but this one was a must post. No further details on this battle technology, but notice the sniper minimization tactic used. John Kettler
If you're desperate to totally destroy your equanimity, keep going. Ghastly seems inadequate as a description of these (gag, retch, hurl) fashions. The photo spread is on the Real Penguin page of FB. If you can believe it, the four pics visible aren't the most disturbing! Believe these are part of the Abomination line for Spring. John Kettler
This is a cake for the, er, discerning customer. Probably not a good choice for your parents' 50th anniversary. Or maybe it would be. John Kettler
Time for a bit of history. So many items to remark upon! "Gathering in the head intrigues me." Is the head pulled in at the top by a drawstring? Perhaps congregating in the lav? And if a woman would avoid being institutionalized for snuff eating, then now more than 1.999 years of this should be done! John Kettler
Arresting headline, but be sure to read the subhead at the very top. A friend of mine nearly suffered the same fate during the Northridge, California quake. Half of his appartment was swallowed up when an enormous crack appeared. Was lucky to get out alive! John Kettler
The Victorians were so uptight about pregnancy, that things like this were published. Adoption was deemed a modest way to have a child. Judging from their attire, this is from the 1920s. Craziest exercise I can recall seeing. John Kettler
This perfectly fits the OP. Don't recall ever seeing anything like it. Have on "A 1000 Ways to Die" seen something on a guy who wanted to have a simply stupendous flatus, so ate a whole bunch of burritos. Unfortunately for him, his great achievement was also his last, for he self-asphyxiated in a small bathroom! This item is dumbfounding, if real. $500K/yr and not making ends meet! Erwin
On 7/10/2019 at 5:26 AM, John Kettler said: Judging from their attire, this is from the 1920s. Craziest exercise I can recall seeing. Germany had a lot of fitness crazes back then. A lot of videos from that time look like that. Not sure if same was going on in US or UK, (or Great Britain as it used to be known). BTW: Here's something for you to research, John. When did the term "United Kingdom" enter normal lexicon? When I was at school in the 60's it was always called Great Britain and I do not recall the term United Kingdom commonly used until the 70's.
John Kettler
Erwin, Don't know, but I personally prefer the earlier term, but then, I also had four years of Latin and am a huge Roman legion buff! Julius Caesar briefly invaded what he called Britannia. If I remember to do so, I'll check. Here's a truly weird product, which is available, together with a bunch of related ones.
