  1. I am wondering what type of artillery is most useful against entrenched infantry. AP strikes seem to me to be the best since the shrapnel comes from the top down, but it seems that if the enemy is prone in the trench, the fragments may not hit them. So, what does the military use in a situation like that? AP? General? Anti-vehicle? I'm assuming they use a linear pattern along the trench. Some advice on this would be helpful. Thanks
  2. That was amazing. I'm surprised the guy managed to stay upright while he was filming. They almost looked like nukes going off
  3. I agree, and that's why I like BFC so much. I haven't played the game much since I got it due to bugs. Now that I've got the 1.04 patch, it seems to be the CM that I enjoyed so much in the past games. Things behave more or less like you hope they will, my vehicles fire on the enemy without my prompting, and even destroy enemy vehicles. Soldiers behave much more predictably, though I did see one instance of running the long way around, rather than the direct route, but that was a moot point since they were in no danger. I'm starting to enjoy the game a lot more now, and will be downloading maps. Can't wait to play! Thanks BFC.
  4. I must be the odd one out. I am playing CMSF, and probably will play more when 1.03 is out and I have more time (during the winter). I just recently bought BB and AK and currently have a PBEM going in BB, and a scenario saved with AK that I haven't had too much time for at the moment. I'm also still playing CMBO. I seem to be the only one still playing this game. My brother-in-law play it frequently, and I bought it back around 2002. It has been on and off my computer a few times, since I'll put it aside for a while, and come back to it later. Seems no one is playing the original but me these days (or am I wrong?). Personally I'm enjoying all of them so far, and look forward to 1.03 (*Hits refresh...........Hits refresh..........hits refresh........)
  5. The US Army unveils its new addition to the mechanized forces: The Stryker Infantry Bus
  6. I worked at a UPS centre in Windsor, Ontario when it was being build. I was only security there, but I was there long enough to see how they treat the packages. "Fragile," simply means "Throw it 3 meters instead of 6." I won't send anything fragile by UPS again if I can help it after working there.
  7. I had a roomate in college who worked for UPS in the summer. If you listened to his stories you would no longer have have problems imagining. According to him it was like a game to see who could break the most things. [/QB]
  8. When things go right in CMSF, it's a beautiful thing to see. For example, this screen capture shows the AI stacking up perfectly behind a building in the Trident Valley. When I see things like this, it gives me great hope for the future, when this game is patched up. Also, from the same scenario, I put a Bradley FSV on top of a hill overlooking one of the towns. I left it on its own, and it took out THREE  of the four burning BMPs in the background, without me giving it a single order of any kind. This made it easy for my 1st platoon to enter the town without a shot fired by the soldiers. As Hannibal used to say on The A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together..."
  9. Looks like the French mod has been released.....
  10. Seems he doesn't quite know what he's talking about. He says you can tell that Persona 3 is made for kids because it's anime. Any fan of anime (even a casual fan like me) will tell you that anime is NOT necessarily for kids. I've seen some stuff that makes a Quentin Tarantino film look like Disney.
  11. BTW, I love that even the Javelin missile is so detailed. It's not something you might normally see, but it's a nice touch, and shows a ton of work by BFC. And... it was just plain cool that the turn ended with the missile just out of the tube...
  12. Two screen caps I thought I'd share here. Here is the first photograph of the American Stryker Bus with twice the capacity of a normal Stryker. Here is a great shot of a soldier firing a Javelin from the top of the berm in the first campaign mission.
  13. Then the question becomes "is reviewing unfair" instead of "is [this] review unfair" - and I think the answer is yes. Especially with games, where patching is so expected and easy. What would it mean for film criticism if new cuts were released every few weeks? Reviewing once and forgetting about is a negative influence on gaming, in my opinion. It supports the graphical planned obsolescence that's currently turning most games into engine demos. It's also a strange throwback to print media considering how much game reviewing is done on the internet. [/QB]</font>
  14. Could it be the fire status of the gun? Big Green + means loaded and ready to fire. Small green + meaning firing and red X for reloading...? Just a guess. I haven't paid much attention when playing, as long as the shells arrive on target. This statement concerns me. If I'm reading you correctly, the people who programmed the game don't know what the symbols mean? That just seems weird, and I want to believe I misunderstood, otherwise there's a SERIOUS problem...
  15. Saw this segment on Future Weapons. Pretty cool device...
  16. I demand an animation of the last surviving member of a platoon to be curled up in a ball behind a wall crying "MOMMA!! MOMMA!!!"
  17. This is what I would like to see. Someone in another thread pointed out that by frontloading the results, this could increase the framerate, since it's pre-defining the outcome using the ballistics, etc in the engine. That's different since now, not only is it determining the outcome, but it's running graphics at the same time. All of this takes processor time, and slows things down. I'd prefer to have it determine the outcome first, video later. LOL Interesting take on preferring RT My orders tend to be just as bad, but at least I like the luxury of being able to analyze and see what happened in detail. It would be nice (preferably eventually for CMSF), but for the next game to have the option. You can play RT, in which case, things are what they are now. But if you want WEGO, then have the game predefine the outcome and just play it. Forget the rendering at the same time.
  18. So, I was idly looking throughout the archives, looking at some of the grumblings about CMBO, and came across this post: Just out of curiosity, if realtime does not allow for strategic planning, why implement it now? Sure, you could've made it an option, with a full WEGO system as well, but why gear CMSF to realtime. I'm just wondering if times have changed your minds, or technology now allows for strategic thinking in realtime play. Personally, I prefer WEGO for the very reasons stated in the quote, and I understand people feel differently. This isn't a gripe, just wondering what has changed...
  19. I lost a man to a ricochet (not friendly fire). They were in an alley, being fired on by a Syrian squad. A tracer bounced off the wall, and struck one of the guys, taking him out.
  20. Hey that worked like a charm for me! Thanks! I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and the process for iTouch software is set for "Normal."
  21. This happened to me with Javelins. I grabbed some from a Stryker, then sent my team up to a rooftop. By the time they got there, the Javelins were gone. Syrian black-market pickpockets...?
  22. I can't remember if I had AT4's or not. How would I get them to do that? I'm assuming that I would target the T-72 and they'd take care of the rest? Those minimums sound about right, since those were the ranges I was able to fire at. And, the Javelin did go directly to the target, rather than up and down on the top of the tank. I don't know much about the military, but it constantly amazes me, the more I read, the more I see just how accurate BFC is making the games.
  23. Can anyone tell me what (if any) the minimum firing range is for a Javelin missile? I had an AT unit on a rooftop, about 53m from a T-72, with LOS to the tank, but they did not seem to want to fire the missile. I figured maybe there was a minimum range, so I moved the team to the next rooftop back, about 67m from the tank, and they fired right away. Was this just something I did wrong, or is it a bug, or is there actually a minimum range? Thanks
  24. I had a squad hiding in an alley between two buildings. There was an enemy firing at the opening of the alley, but the squad was back far enough that they were out of the line of fire. I then watched a tracer bounce off the wall and injure one of my riflemen. That's when I KNEW this game was realistic...
  25. On the way to battle, the sarge thought he'd stop at a local drive-thru for a McFalafel...
