Sybma
Sorry but i can't find it in the manual. What is (purpose) of XO team?
Sgt Joch
it's like that in CMSF. actually, the XO team does not usually serve a purpose. It is there because it was there in real life. It helps a bit with maintaining C2, especially if the HQ team is destroyed.
MikeyD
XO stands for executive officer, he's directly under the Company commander. I guess his purpose is to carry the CO's briefcase for him and do his typing. Functionally in the game, I suppose he helps expand the Commander's C&C footprint, adds some redundancy so its harder to knock out the command structure with a lucky artillery strike.
Pandur
dont call him "medic", he´s the XO but in practical sense in the game he is a full job medic, buddy aiding guys after the fight moved on. there is nothing else to do for this team. not in CMSF and i guess the same goes for CMBN.
Sergei
Actually, if the Commander dies then the XO becomes the real leader. I have had this happen in CMBN; you can tell it by the name of the unit changes. Old HQ team is renamed as XO team, old XO team is now renamed as HQ team.
Pandur
yes but this works with all the other leaders too!? nothing special about it, a leader dies a new one is "field promoted". and while the Co commander is not meant to die, the XO team is doomed to buddy aid 99% of the time.
MikeyD
I'm reminded of those old CMSF debates "Why did you add that useless M707 Humvee to the game?" The answer of course was because that's what the army fielded. You can't blame Steve for crazy Pentagon decisions. I suspect we're going to revisit this topic when you get to see the crazy-quilt that is the German TO&E.
Vinnart
Medic! Definitly my main use in CMSF. Never noticed if he gets field promoted to company commander though if the HQ dies. Only noticed this in infantry squads.
