I'm new here, could any of you tell me where and how to use mods?

For CMSF two of the best places to find Mods are here under REPOSITORY (see BFC website main menus at top of page), and GAJ's CMMODS site (http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/).

Download what you want (you may have to log in first).

Create a NEW folder under DATA in your main CM directory, tradition is to call it "Z."

Unzip d/l Mod (if necessary) and place the folder or .brz file into the Z folder. It should work.

For CM1 games like CMBO, CMBB and CMAK you can d/l most things from CMMODS (see above).

For CM1 mods, unzip the d/l if necessary. That should give you a set of .bmp files.

Locate your BMP folder in your main CMBB (or CMAK, CMBO...) directory.

Copy the mod .bmp's directly into that BMP folder (to replace the existing old .bmp's.)

Important, it is highly recommended that you copy the same numbered original .bmp's first so if you don't like the look of the mod in the game, you can easily copy back the original .bmp's.

On the topic of mods...

Is there a list anywhere that would have the vehicles in game and also which ones share BMP files to make it easier modding and not downloading multiple mods that could overwrite each other.

IIRC mainly wheels are shared in CM1 games

The list of bmps runs into thousands - so start with simple mods and examine them individually to get a feel of what goes where

Also winterized vehicle mods can be added additionally to OEM skins

Well found what I was looking for in an XML document after a bit of digging.

Only problem is the lack of screenshots of quite alot of the mods at Greenasjades site to know what it is I am downloading.

Good point. Plz tell GAJ about adding snapshots, it would be really helpful. If enuff people ask for them...

Erwin, I don't have a folder called DATA in CMBB files but there's one called bmp which contains all the graphic stuff, vehicle skins etc. should I put the mods I download there?

DATA is in CMSF only.

As I said above:

(Note do NOT put folders in the .bmp folder, ONLY .bmp files. It won't do any harm, but ONLY CM2 reads contents of sub-folders in its Z folder.)

CMMODs is looong gone. GAJ's is about the best spot for CMX1 mods now...

That could be confusing as first written, 'cause BFC still has the dead link to the old CMMODs posted. But it should all be clear now.
