None of them matches the scope of the warfare that took place between the Allied and Axis powers from December 1941 to May 1945. To be precise, even that wasn't truly global, as there was hardly any fighting in sub-Saharan Africa (except Madagaskar), North and South America and Antarctica. But it did cover most of Europe, a good chunk of Asia and Oceania, and all the oceans. Really, it should be called the First World War because it's the only one in that league so far. The mankind still lacks a war that doesn't leave anyone feeling ignored. None of this matters one bit, of course, because it's just a convention just like "Citizen Kane is the best film ever" or "Pi equals 3", and is not supposed to make any sense whatsoever. From a Chinese perspective the whole German-Polish war was a separate conflict all the way until Germany declared war on United States and thus the European war tangled itself with the Sino-Japanese one, and really the war began with Japanese invasion in 1937 (or its preludes) and ended in Japanese surrender. Nah, WWI had fighting in Africa, all over the Middle East and Pacific, plus all the Oceans, so it was at least as widespread as WWII. Similarly for the Napoleanic War - all over Europe, into Africa, around the West Indies, and across the Pacific. The Sino-Japanese conflict was just a local fight between neighbours - much like the Rooskies vs the Japs in 1905. That it later got subsumed into is besides the point. Same with that spat twixt the Rooskis and the moose herders. Once Germany and the UK started going toe to toe it was global, or a 'world' war. None of this matters one bit, of course, because it's just a convention just like "Citizen Kane is the best film ever" or "Pi equals 3", and is not supposed to make any sense whatsoever. Quite. May as well call WWI "Ferdi's War" and WWII "Churchill's War." Chinese historians suck moose balls so we should ignore them. For Germany the murdering of hundreds of Germans, thousands of Germans in Polish concentration camps, the suppression of Germans in the polish occupied land, i.e. Oberschlesien or Danzig and not to forget the military ambitions of the peaceful Poland , that led war with all it's neighbours since 1918 doesn't matter? In point of fact, war was officially declared by world Jewry against Germany on March 23, 1933, a short time after the National Socialists came to power and six and a half years before actual armed conflict. The local German-Polish conflict assumed worldwide dimensions when Britain and France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939.
