Tactical Wargamer
Just curious would a Multiplayer Forum be helpful you think? Area where MP's can meet up and discuss MP issues and tactics? Just a thought?
MeatEtr
Well there already is a opponent finder forum(which nobody uses) and another forum for discussions about tactics. But was just thinking about the MP lobby thats been discussed in the past, I think back before CMSF launched. So what's the latest on this BF? This MP lobby or MP interface could of course be for all BF games, not just CMx1 and CMx2 games.

Yes, an MP lobby, PBEM helper, opponent finder tool etc. are all going to part of our Battlefront Toolbar, and it will be for all of our games, not just CM. However, this is a MASSIVE project so it takes time to complete.
Other Means
Personally I don't like any kind of toolbar on a browser. Why have the overhead when you're not doing anything to do with the game? A standalone for me please. Even a one off paid-for client PBEMH.
BFCElvis
I'd pay for that. Sergie has a for pay thing he uses that had a free trial (can't remember the name off the top of me head) that worked well. And Yossarian recently pointed me to a free one (another one I forget the name of...god forbid I wait until I'm on my home computer before making this post) . Trouble is getting enough people on them so you can find someone when you're ready for a battle. So a BFC backed option would be VERY welcome. TCP has been a fantastic way to play this game. For me it is the most fun way to play it. EDIT: Steam is the program Yossarian turned me on to.

panzermartin
MP lobby + working QBs + pausable TCP/IP = We are talking for a whole new game, with ladders, tournaments etc. EDIT: I too prefer the standalone option. I'm afraid the toolbar might not be that popular. A "multiplayer" link from inside the game menu will be more obvious than a browser add on.
hammelman
I think the real problem is there aren't enough people actively playing - especially multiplayer - to support any kind of real audience for something like this. I wouldn't be surprised that even if there were some kind of tool or room of some sort that there would no more than 20 or 30 people in the WHOLE WORLD who would be wanting to play MP at the same time. Unfortunately because this is a niche game, i don't think that is ever going to change. If I'm wrong, great, but I'm pretty sure I'm right on this one.
panzermartin
Could also be the fact that MP interface isnt that friendly. The IP adress thing is a bit obsolete and the lack of a central chat room has broken the (small) online crowd to several user made lobbies, like Xfire, Hamachi etc. I can still find buddies to play but it would make a significant difference if there was a dedicated MP room that everyone could join through the game and not by searching forums, downloading software etc. And 20-30 people at the same time isnt a bad number at all
Sergei
It depends on oh so many factors, like how convenient it is, how well it meets people's tastes (like for example, an old school PBEM purist might be hard to convert to online play, especially if there's no pause settings) and such. Also whether someone who is mainly looking for single player experience will be tempted to try the multiplayer features and, if he manages to try it, he'll like it enough to do it again some time. At it's best a good multiplayer mode can significantly increase a game's sales when players persuade their friends to buy the game as well so they can play it together. If the game supports more than two players, that's even more such sales.
pkjsmith
hi there is already a site up and running at http://www.worldatwar.eu which has 41 CMSF players on the ladder. It keeps track of your performance, awards medals, has a CMSF forum http://www.worldatwar.eu/index.php?〈=3&refcode=0&location=boardlistnodegroup&boardid=0 and you can place challanges at http://www.worldatwar.eu/index.php?〈=3&refcode=0&location=freebattleground The only problem is that the site is a bit complex and takes a while to get used to. That is probably why there are no CMSF open battle grounds. This is a really good site but is only good if people use it.

But a place to bring everybody together is much needed. Also the average Joe who only sees the direct-connect/PBEM option in the game probably doesn't even bother registering here at the BF site, let alone another club/ladder site.
