Cpl Steiner
Bloody hell, I never dreamed I'd read one day of a 19th century-style boarding action. Apparently yesterday some Royal Marines had a firefight on the high seas with some Somali pirates. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article5141745.ece Life is stranger than fiction, as they say.
Sergei
According to that account, most of the action was over long before the actual boarding took place - which doesn't surprise. A bigger surprise is that the whole pirate vessel and all of the crew weren't devastated in the shooting. Certainly interesting, thanks! (But shouldn't this be in the GDF? Naggaty nag nag!)
Other Means
Reads like it was just small arm shooting from the Marines. If the ship had returned fire there wouldn't be much evidence left.
dan/california
I demand that this capability be simulated in the British Module. It is of paramount importance, no really!
Sergei
Dan, it will be... except that there will be no sea, no ships, no Somalians and no Royal Marines. Other than that, it's there! DISCLAIMER: I may be talking out of my ass (and do, really).
Lee
Yeah, the Royal Marines blew away that trash and had the rest cowering on their knees! Way to go! haha
Battlefront.com
heh... it's probably not so much fun to mess with the Royal Marines than a bunch of civilians who are armed with harsh words and perhaps a sharp fork or two. Meach
I tell ya, my Muvva could do irrepariable damage with a sharp fork! I still have the scars....
Michael Emrys
One thing I don't get. Those boats the RMs are using are inflatable, like Zodiacs, right? Seems like that's what the pirates would have been aiming at if they are smart (which is by no means a given). A few holes in those and the RMs would have been shucking heavy gear and trying to keep their noses out of the water. Or have I missed something here? More like solid plastic. http://www.specialboatservice.co.uk/rigid-raider.htm
YankeeDog
IIRC, the pontoons on Military Zodiac-type craft have a special lining on the inside of the pontoons that will re-seal small holes. So small arms fire won't do much to them; you really need to shred one with sustained MG fire, or HE, to make it loose its buoyancy.
