jens198
Hi, last night I played around with the map editor a little bit and this idea came to my mind. I'd like to load a image file (bmp or whatever) as an overlay in the map editor to make it easier to place buidlings an roads in the proper places. Example: I got an image (e.g. Google earth) with 1024x768 pixles and I know the exact dimensions of the area (2x3 kilometers). In the editor I choose "Load Overlay from file" and choose my bmp-file. Now I got my image underneath my editor view. If I zoom in and out the image changes accordingly. Any chance to have something like this in the future? TOG
Great idea!
magomar
Yeah ! That is a great idea ! It was implemented in the Mapping Mission tool for the CMx1 and it was really helpful !! Also great was the possibility of exporting a grey-colored bmp representing different heighs into a CM map, I would love any of those functionalities in a future CM game.

Captain Pies
All of these and more have been suggested before, whilst CMSF was still in development. I wouldn't hold your breath, my guess is we'll see it for the WWII game.

SlowMotion
That's probably the map you get from satellite pictures of 1939.
jens198
Well, back on topic, it would be nice if someone official might make short statement. [ ] No problem. It's easy to programm and you'll see it with the next patch. [ ] Nice idea, but other things are more important. We'll put it on the list. [ ] Idea is crap. Don't waste our time mate. [ ] jesus, that jens198 dude is brilliant. We should pay that guy for such great suggestions. Jens

Captain Pies
Is there a Google Earth-like resource for 1939-45? The shuttle SRTM DEMS are available for free. I'd like to see the ability to import those. The european terrain hasn't changed significantly since 1945.
kevinkins
The idea is good and come up now and again so BTS must be aware and believe time is better sent elsewhere. Perhaps a major portion of the editor would need recoded etc..
Captain Pies
Mapping Mission has this capability. Hopefully a skilled member of the community might come up with something similar if BFC allow us to get at the format for maps.

magomar
MM (Mapping Mission) is a wonderful tool by L.Tankersley to edit maps and export them to CM It has features such as overlaying a bmp, or reading a bmp with a height or terrain color-code and other utilities to simplify the map creation process. The only pro is that since the scenario format of CM is a proprietary format, the communication between MM and CM is done in a very unreliable way: generating key events from MM while staying in the CM editor I think the last version of MM was the 1.12, that you can find here http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=003400;p=1#000000 You can see some screenshots of MM here http://cmscw.50webs.com/tutorials/tm-4-edicion.htm Best regards
thewood
How could I have been playing CM for years and reading these forums even longer and missed MM? It opens up a whole new world for me in CM1.

jens198
I might have some kind of solution for the problem using maps as an overlay for the map editor. We discussed something similar over at the Steel Beasts forum. Link Those who might be interessted might take a look.
