Sergei
T-64's were never exported AFAIK. The gun looks like T-55.
M1A1TC
Judging by the bore evacuator at the end of the gun tube, I think its a T-54-55.
Sixxkiller
T-55 no question
Broompatrol
Sixxkiller you stole my thunder! T-55, here's my source: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/t54tank.htm
Broompatrol
One thing I noticed studying the pics of the T54/55. The hull design looks like it was influenced by the german Panther and then a classic Soviet style turret stuck on. Note the lack of return rollers and the invereted slope of the rear armor. Of course these similarities may be superficial and coincidental, maybe? After all, all tanks have alot in common: Armored box with tracks and a turret and go boom.
Sergei
I don't see similarities between Panther and T-54 wheels (no interlimiting). It's more akin to T-34. OTOH T-54 turret is located at the middle of the hull, not a bit forward like on T-34 or IS, so the hull isn't like them either.
Broompatrol
Sergei, You're right about the wheels. When I was looking at the T-54/55 pics I noted the overall shape of the hull and was wondering if it was a evolution from the T-34 or if it borrowed some features from German tanks. I probably should have looked at more Russian tanks before posting

civdiv
T54/55. Used to be an arty FO and we got this stuff beast into our skulls. Giveaways are the bore evacuator on the end of the barrel (100mm IIRC) plus the gap that can be seen between the first and second road wheel on the tank on the left (You have to play with the brightness to make this out). So chassis and turret (weapon) match T54/55. Both dead giveaways. What is this photo from? civdiv

Broompatrol
CivDiv, tanks for the pics which help illustrate my question. (get it..tanks..) anyway, you see how the hull is very boxy with an inverted slope on the rear of the T-54/55? That is a departure from the steep slope of the rear hull on the t-34 and IS-2 ans IS-3. My question is: does anyone know (or care for that matter..) If this was influenced by German designs. It looks like some guy at a body shop took a Panther body, stripped off all the parts and put bondo over all the features then stuck T-34 running gear on and a IS-3 turret with a smaller gun. As I ask the question I realize that probably isn't too far from the truth.

MikeyD
They were never going to be T64s, but are they T69s? I'm straining my eyes trying to discern any Chinese-build details on those hulks. A fair number of 'new' Iraqi government tanks are definitely T69s. Here's a museum sample from Britain.
