Idea: Stalin & Churchill HQ Unit

Recommended Posts

Stalin and Churchill had such a big influence on the war that perhaps they should be represented by special HQ units.

HQ Leader Unit: Joseph Stalin

Special Quality 1: On the turn that the Stalin HQ unit is destroyed each Russian unit not controlled by a HQ unit can not move as a leadership struggle erupts in the ruling Politburo.

Special Quality 2: This HQ unit can benefit any one combat unit on the map for the duration of the game, until that unit is destroyed, as long as a line of supply can be traced to it. (This reflects the priority given to supplying one unit by the supreme commander).

Special Quality 3: Once a year the Stalin HQ unit may may elect to replace any Russian HQ unit with a randomly selected HQ Unit. The replaced HQ unit is destroyed( ie purged).

This unit adds some historical flavor to the game by

1) Allowing the Russian player to purge the commanders of HQ units, although he will have not control over who will replace them. They may be better or worst commanders.

2) Allowing the Russian player to select one unit that will receive priority in receiving supply and resources for the duration of the war. This may me a corps, an army or an armor unit. The key fact is that even though this unit may be 20 hexes from the Stalin unit, it will continue to receive the HQ bonus as long as it can trace a line of supply to the Stalin HQ unit.

3) Reflecting the temporary paralysis of command that occurs when a dictator dies.

HQ Leader Unit: Churchill

Special Quality 1: UK does not surrender if London and Manchester are taken and the Churchill unit survives.

Special Quality 2: This HQ unit can benefit any one combat; air, naval or land, unit on the map for the duration of the game.

Special Quality 3: This HQ unit may not leave England unless an Axis unit has landed in England.

Destroy the Churchill unit and you destroy the British will to resist the German occupation.

Perhaps, but instead the counter could represent

the command staff that each leader had. Stalin

isn't of much use if his command network is

porked. Plus you will be protecting that unit

at all costs (hustling it away from harm via

the Reserve/Redeployment function).

Well, I think it is something which hopefully can

be modded, as if nothing else it can make for a

"Hunt the Evil Leader" kind of game. <shrug>

Besides, the loss of one of these leaders would have absolutely no effect other than perhaps a moral modifier on the ability of these nations to wage war. There will always be a replacement and in fact isn't this the role that you're suppose to assume in the beginning? So just use the editor and create your own "Emperor of the Universe" HQ.
