Mord
Somehow I have lost the ability to create folders on my desktop when I right click. I am running Win98SE. I have never seen this before. When I right click I get Active Desktop,Arrange Icons,Line Up Icons,Undo, Rename, and Properties. No NEW option. Did I maybe turn something off I shouldn't have? I am totally bewildered. Schrullenhaft
It sounds like something has happened to your registry. The capability to have the 'New' option in the right-click menu has probably be cut-out or corrupted in your registry. Is this also true in the File Manager under the File menu ? This tip hopefully may restore the capability.
Mord
YEP. How the hell did I do that. Actually I did install a screwy driver that I had to take off could that have done it?
Redwolf
I had that, too. Icons on desktop would not function anymore. I have Win2K now (for gaming).
Sergei
I suppose there's no chance that you or some faulty program would have taken away your permission to write things?
Hpt. Lisse
Yeah, it's WinXP time. Just avoid SP 2...
Mord
Welp I had to do a full reformat/install. I spent about 50 hours organizing mods and scenarios for CMBB and CMAK over the last few weeks and luckily was able to burn them. I was sweating bullets and ready to cry thinking I was gonna lose all that work. Hopefully I'll be ok now. Mord.
Hpt. Lisse
The only time I've seen behavior like that on a friends' rig was due to a virus...

Mord
Well so far so good but what I think happened is I DLed an updated Nvidia driver form their site and One didn't see my Geforce FX 5600 listed as part of the support and two forgot to uninstall the driver I was using. Lucky me. I was under the assumption that all Nvidia drivers worked on all cards. I don't know but I am sticking with what I have it allows me to play CMBB and CMAK a little while before it end up freezing so better than nothing at all. callo1
Blame Nvidia for this one. Let me guess, you just recently upgraded your Forceware drivers? Well, in any case, heres the fix for ya: -When you click the File menue in Windows Explorer, the "New" command is missing. To resolve this issue open Registry Editor to verify that the registry key below has the value listed, and if needed, manually edit the value to match what I have listed any you will be good to go. You may have to manually create this key using the "add key" option in Regedit because the entire key will most likely be missing. Don't worry, its simple. Key:[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New] Value Name:{Default} Data:{D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719} Keep in mind, this is for Win98SE and Win98. I'm not sure of the values for 2000 and XP. Be sure to export your registry before doing this in case ya goof up:) or better yet, create a system restore point so in the worst case scenario you can do a scanreg/r to recover. I have isolated this problem to the Forceware drivers Nvidia has been releasing as of late...Although, I'm sure Nvidia would deny this:) Good luck and if ya need more assistance let me know here.
