Well, seeing as I’m here a couple of days early with absolutely nothing to do except sweat heavily (see below), I figured I’d do a little recon of the museum for the rest of you that are coming on Tuesday.

First of all…it’s hot here. Very hot. [Censored] hot! And humid too. But not just humid, it’s humid like the inside of the Pacific Ocean humid. Bring water, and not just a bottle or two… bring ALL of it. 500 gallons on a pull cart with an IV tube, drip irrigation system and a sprinkler would be almost enough for fifteen minutes. A hat would be a good idea too methinks.

Anyways, security is tight…have your ID ready. It isn’t that they don’t like Canadians, but (rightfully) don’t trust us completely. Good thing I went today, as I had a good half hour wait while they processed me and made sure I really was me. At least now I’m on record there and the second time should go a lot quicker. It was hot in the car too.

The museum is nice, with lotsa stuff on display outside (in the heat), and is nicely laid out inside. I just did a quick walk-through because I’m stupid and forgot my camera back at the motel, but there are some cool displays and the Memorial Park looks very interesting also. The gift shop is maybe a little spartan, but there are some books/prints/sketches that will be traveling back with me.

There’s a big plastic donation box at the entrance for the museum’s continued expansion and upkeep, and I swear I heard it snicker at me when I pulled a Canadian $100 bill out, so I gave it a US $10 instead and it seemed happy. Same difference at least.

I think the heat might be getting to me. Did I mention the heat index yet? Nevermind.

Harv

Ps. Do NOT lay down in the frozen food locker at the grocery store. Trust me on this one.

Greetings Harv! I didn't realize you were in town already.

Yeah, it is dang hot here right now...Almost Kuwait hot.

Send me an email with where you're staying and all, and I will try to get in touch with you tomorrow.

Somebody (I suspect Rune) must be living right. We have had a solid week of temperatures from 95-100 F in the area, with high humidity as well. However, today we have a pretty good chance of afternoon thunderstorms, evidently caused by a cold front moving through. The forecast for tomorrow (from the Weather Channel) is a high of 84 F and only 20% chance of rain.

Sadly, while you people are crawling around the armor, I will be in an attorney's office signing my life away for the next 30 years. Perfect timing for closing on a house. :(

All of you making the trip, have a great time!

Okay guys, I am heading out the door. I will be spending today in Louisville and expect to be at the museums main entrance (probably laying on the T-28 getting some sun) tomorrow morning.

Hope to see you all there!

There's a slight hic-cup/change in the plans guys.

You'll be escorted by me, aka "The Walking Wounded". I severely sparined my ankle playing Flag Football this morning.

Flutie can have it! I'm done with it. Age has finally caught up with me.

I'll still be there, and nothing else changes, it's just that I will not be as mobile as a tru cavalryman should be.

When is CALFEX this year, and are they having one?

You guys planned this trip too late. I was down at Ft Knox for CALFEX this year (July 29th) and visited the Patton museum as well. Best part of all, it was all part of my job (most expenses paid).

It would have been great if your trip aligned with mine.

Anyway, I took some pictures of CALFEX and the museum, which I will post soon.

Enjoy your visit to the museum and bring/drink lot's of water.

Albert
