pawter
I have only just returned to CM .... took delivery of CMBB & CMAK a week ago. & a couple of old gripes are making themselves felt already. The first is my inability to plant locational markers/flags on the map for future reference ie. after I've scrolled around the map at level1 and sussed out a few key points or hull down positions it is hard to locate them thereafter from level4/5 and in the fluster of play. Secondly, although this is not as bad a problem as in CMBO, the inability to set tactical "posture" of squads whether it be withdraw on contact, up to save the last cartridge for yourself. It appears though that the AI has been tweaked to make squads more gun-shy and rational, which in part meets the need. Or perhaps these things are available & someone can save me having to figure them out for myself?
Wicky
Memory for your first problem and add a 'hide' on a 'move to contact' for the second - Plus liberal use of 'cover arcs' to limit giving yourself away and ammunition expenditure. It's all in the manual
farmerch
Markers would be great. They are on my personal wishlist as well. Memorize just is not the right thing. Markers give you a better orientation. Another thing would be a colorscheme. One could have different hights shown in different colours, or ground conditions, ...
MikeyD
"...colorscheme. One could have different hights shown in different colours, or ground conditions" They do! Admittedly it's subtle with slightly darker green for lower terain and slightly lighter for higher. But it's enough for me. I'm more into the 'virtual reality' aspect of the game than efficient game mechanics so I was never drawn to such gamey looking stuff as gridded terrain. farmerch
look... the gridded tarrain is just the same. you could switch it on for better understanding of the terrain. while playing, you could switch it off again. would be very nice. same goes with the hights. i know it is getting sightly lighter on higher grounds. but i want to see that much better to get an overview. after that, i want to be able to switch it off again.
junk2drive
I was goofing around in editor with Valley of Trouble. You can see the color difference in the low spots and high. But try moving a squad to slope terrain. How steep does it have to be to get extreme slope?
John Kettler
I'd like to suggest that BFC add a "Flame" command to all future versions of the game in which flamethrower vehicles are used. In the heat of battle (no pun intended) it gets confusing remembering which command does what, especially since in some AFVs the flamethrower replaces the hull MG, yet there still is a main gun (Crocodile and Sherman versions thereof), in some the flame mount replaces the MG (Wasp), some tankettes sport an FT over and above the normal MG (L3 33 flamethrower), and in the Flammpanzer IIIs (BFC, please put into CMAK!), the flamethrower is the main armament. I've doubtless missed a few other examples, but the idea and the need for it should be clear. John Kettler
Anomalous earlier version of above post removed. Couldn't get rid of whole post. [ March 11, 2004, 01:17 AM: Message edited by: John Kettler ]
