Gurra
It would have been awesome to see a legion of mc´s seizing a bridge (as have happened) by sheer speed and surprise
annihilate_this_week
I don't think there could have been any way cycles could have been modeled and remained useful, maybe as useful and vulnerable as the "MG Carrier"?
MPK
One might say the same thing about the ubiquitous German halftracks: ie that they are too vulnerable to be used... (see various long-running debates on this forum, the most recent being in regard to JasonC's Kursk campaign) As the Soviet player, I have devoured hundreds of halftracks, when they are used foolishly by opponents... The real issue, IMHO, is one of map size (and this relates to soft motor transport as well)...on a big enough map you can use your transport effectively to switch troops rapidly from one area to another, stopping short of the actual 'hot' area and disembarking troops... This is not to say that MC troops did not in RL actually sieze bridges in 'hot' areas, or perform other very dangerous tasks... Like the horsed cavalry issue, this has been warmly debated a lot...

MPK
Entirely off topic, Eichenbaum, your OSF Fire and OSF Explosions mods are way, way cool! (Just applied 'em) Thanks, Matt
Code13
Never mind Motor Cycle troops. What about Hungarian Bicycle Infantry?
MikeyD
To see how life would be in a motorcycle battalion try staging an assault with the closest equivalent in CM... jeep mgs. Its not pretty. I recalll Matt was frightened of seeing increadibly gamey Mad Max scenarios involving dozens of bikers buzzing around a single KV-2. BFC's attitude towards motorcycles, bicycles, horses, donkey carts, etc. is that experienced troops would quickly learn to leave them well back out of rifle/mortar range. The stated advantage of the halftrack was its ability to drive the troops up to within a HALF MILE of the front! Hell, Matt wasn't even particularly enthused about providing us with trucks, except they make mighty convenient targets.
Code13
Halftracks are great for supressing enemy positions as infantry advances, and if the enemy positions dont have any anti armour power they can be great for fast assault moves
Bannon DC
Dream on. Just as I have always dreamed of horse teams and cavalry. heheheheh.
Gurra
Nah, CM is fine for me even without the motorcycles . I recall Matt was frightened of seeing increadibly gamey Mad Max scenarios involving dozens of bikers buzzing around a single KV-2. Huuh. I totally agree. But as proven by the posted picture above, the motorcycle is pretty cool.
Soddball
Actually, bikers with MGs would have made a superb Mad Max scenario in CM:AK - the desert, the Flak Trucks, the MG motorcyles..... I can see it now:
