Jon Patrick
Hey everybody, Wearing out my copy of SC here, and it's created a *want* in my heart. I apologize upfront for this being off-topic. Does anyone know of a game in existence where you run a country? Not necessarily a 'sim' game, as I'm looking for something realistic. There was an OLD game called Hammurabi on my Commodore 64 where you had a certain population, and you sold some food, used some food to feed your farmers, and raised some food... on to the next turn. I've been dreaming about a game like this, only much, much more in depth. Maybe where you're a king, and you handle diplomacy, decisions to declare war (while not necessarily controlling the troops directly), production, research, etc. etc. I've tried the civilizations and others like that, and they're just so 'gamey'... looking for other people's thoughts! daringly
Try Tropico. You're a dictator of a banana republic. It's by another small vendor (though not quite as small as Battlefront), but the game is a blast... You must manage the economy, politics to insure your reelection... It is twisted. iolo
There's 'Diplomacy', the 1999 Avalon Hill/Hasbro version of the ole board game. ... having never played it, but quoting from the gamespot review: Not only is the interface clunky and awkward, but the artificial intelligence is terrible, and the multiplayer support is buggy. - Michael E. George-III
You could also try "The General". Its a free Russian game that is very addictive. Not much grafix but the concept is interesting. Download here: http://newgame.agava.ru/eng/g_news.html or here: http://www.freeglobus.com/games/game.php?g=86 Also you may want to look around at underdogs.
