upconvert scenarios?
Jon Patrick replied to Jon Patrick's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
In my SC1, I loved the '37 or '38 mod I had, where you could play in the Spanish civil war as well. I'm a bit bummed I can't get this to work too... Thanks much for your help. -
upconvert scenarios?
Jon Patrick replied to Jon Patrick's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
Great question! I never use the editor, and tried 2 different versions of the scenario, and in both cases it's missing a "garrison.txt" file. oh well... -
upconvert scenarios?
Jon Patrick replied to Jon Patrick's topic in Strategic Command 2 Scenario and Mods Forum
I have SC2 1.08 without WaW. from the cmmod.com the scenario I *specifically* am having problems with is 1937 Fall Schwarzv4.1 (made for sc2 1.02) I did put the scenario and .cgn into the 'campaigns' folder, and other scenario's have worked fine that way... is there something else I need to do? Thanks for help. -
I d/led a couple of scenarios yesterday, made for 1.02, etc. They're not showing up in my SC2 'new game' choice, and I'm assuming it's cuz my version is too new. Is this logical? I'd assume it could read older versions? Do I need to take some step to 'upconvert' the scenarios? Thanks in advance for any help. JP

***SC Campaigns Available Here***
Jon Patrick replied to Kelly's Heroes's topic in Strategic Command 1
after having lost my disk, i recently repurchased SC1, and I'm dying for some of the campaigns I used to enjoy... esp. the one that started in 1938 and you got to fight in spain. Help? anyone know where these might still be available? -
sometimes, you just want to crush france and maybe england. Sometimes you want to beat up on the US too... I find it very frustrating to have to go through and click on multiple scripts to keep the USSR or USA out of a war when I just want a 'quickie'. Why can't we add a couple of buttons like a 'global ussr neutral' or similar? Click it and ALL the relevant ussr scripts are unchecked? Same with USA. Thanks for the time. JP

first, wow. the AI and gameplay are drastically improved! I started with my typical careless play as the axis in Fall Weiss, and found myself with the French attacking me while I seem to be bogging down with a reinvigorated Polish fighting spirit!! ARGH! Air units exposed to infantry attack are no longer able to sit there and 'take it' but fold up like a celebrity poker player. The italians in North Africa look menacing, right up until the first british unit attacks them and they begin to crumble... even WITH an HQ and air support! Good gosh, I ended up abandoning NA.!! I will not embarrass myself on this forum and let anyone know just HOW LONG it took me my first (and so far only) time to take france. But, while I'm playing around with diplomacy, upgrading units, maxing out research, and in general getting ALL pissed off that there's never enough MPP's left over to buy any new units... the friggin' russians are preparing for war. Yep, I conquer france, then as I'm healing and upgrading, the ruskies declare war. I have about 120 MPP's to my nane and no units in the pipeline other than ships and aircraft. Next turn, we're operationally moving units as fast as possible to the eastern front to try to form a line... but at least my allies are coming onboard thanks to my diplomacy. In short, this is an amazing improvement (if you call the AI kickign your ass an improvement!) over SC. much, much more dramatically so than expected, as my poor tactics and success display. Anyone gotten good strategy worked out yet for diplomacy? I'd love to sue for peace with UK, but if you pump chits into ussr or usa, is it really worth it? Finally, the suggestion. In research, it would be awesome, and appreciated for new buyers of the game, if you could either hover or click on the research topic and have a little 'help box' pop up explaining the difference. Even though last week I read the manual on Industrial Tech. VS production, etc... I still found myself this morning wondering which was what??!! Great, GREAT job. It's a much deeper, thought provoking game...but it has lost just a bit of that 'one more turn' feel to it. It's maturity has robbed (for me) just a bit of the 'lets sit down and just pound out conquering france really quick' fun. This is more like chess, whereas SC1 was more like checkers. Now, I'm off to buy a new video card to hopefully allow me a better resolution and better directx response. thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!! JP

Hi group, I'm Jon [hi Jon!] I'm here today because. <sniffle> I'm a browser! Yes, I 'browse' the SC2 map, hoping to see all my units that I wanted to move or reinforce during France's viscious counterattack. And, sometimes..... I miss a unit. What? What?! there's a "next unit" button! I thought I saw that, but I never tried it! It'll help me not miss a unit.. wow. Thanks guys, ya'll are great! J (a little Easter Friday humor for ya'll)

Download manager
Jon Patrick replied to Marky's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
I love Download Express. Get Right was mentioned by others in another topic. the best part is, you can d/l, try one, remove, try the next and see which one you like that integrates itself the best for you. JP -
Just an update. I 'throttled' DE down to 20kb/s this mornign before I left, and it downloaded fine. I havent' played with any settings to figure out if there IS a 'tweak' I needed (I've used DE for years and love it and never had a problem like this). It may have been dropping the download at my router... the friggin' rate was 130kb/s and I have NEVER seen that speed on my DSL before! I'm thinking my airport may have just choked on all that goodness! Regardless, I don't know about the resume because I got it now...hmmm, play SC2 or play with download express. not a contest. Thanks for your concern and help. Once again, you are awesome. Jp

To amend my post....I was wrong. The file that downloaded in under an hour was NOT the complete file. The second attempt only reached 89% and the BF servers will NOT allow resume. So, after being really happy, I'm now really frustrated and still don't have the file. JP [ April 13, 2006, 02:53 AM: Message edited by: Jon Patrick ]

Okay, I took my time to play a couple of times in the demo, and here's the FIRST IMPRESSIONS!! First, I love Herbert. He listens, and I'm proud to have spent my $50 to support him, his hard work, and his fantastic games. The demo - honestly, I'm having to *warm up* to it. The absolute first impression was not positive. I have a 1year old computer, but the basic graphics card I have allows only 1 resolution (map very close) and I have the problem with the disappearing icons. I look forward to the patch, needless to say, since I'm not a 2d/icon kinda guy. I guess my first thought was the interface was *just* different enough (menus, etc) to make it confusing, and I spent more time than I planned learning what the heck was going on instead of just digging in and playing. Again, let me stress that as I get more familiar, this is lessening and I'm enjoying the game more. Someone mentioned the convoy lanes - I absolutely LOVE the addition (instead of SC1 where you move the sub 1 space, look at the MPP's lost, move it 1 space, repeat!) Could we have a toggle to have the convoy lanes show up on the full map? Also, the idea about left clicking (maybe with at ctrl-) to 'drag' the map around? Finally, someone please work on the 'whole-world' scenerio, please! Great job, I look forward to my copy, and I look forward to loving this game as much as I enjoyed SC1. Heck, this time I *may* just offer my gameplay up as a sacrafice to an actual human player! (ie- i'm not that good and never played tcp/ip.)

Demo Details???
Jon Patrick replied to Fubarno's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
aren't WE all missing the fact that the demo should be available for download while our CD's are being burned and mailed to us? We could have a week or 2 of demo before our hardcopies get to us. So, bring on the demo!!!!!!!!!!! JP -
I'm sorry... isn't the alternative to this thought to receive your game, settle in for a long night of studying the glossy manual, and then waiting until the next morning to being your first, well informed game? Really... who's gonna do THAT after the wait! Bring it on! rip it open, and put it in the CD drive!!!!!!!!! JP
