Will tanks be able to run down?

Recommended Posts

Will tanks be able to run down enenmy troops/equipment? I've read this some time ago in a German memorandum for tank drivers, it said something like : 'Don't waste MG ammo for an enemy soldier if you can run him down', something similar was written about guns or MGs. I don't know how the Russians handled it, but I assume they also wasn't prissily.

that sure would be fun to run over a small AT gun instead of trying to hit it from 20m, because we all know how long it takes to hit something at 20m!

also, along the same lines, when are we going to be able to enter buildings with AFV's????? i want to ram straight through those small wooden bldgs with my tigers! that sure was fun back in the day of ASL (darn cellars though! the dice were never on my side!)

im at work right now, but have you tried it before? i assume that if the tanks big enough, and the gun cannot penetrate the armour, the crew will bail out. has anyone tried this before?

if i get a chance between my german tests tonight, ill let is spin! ich habe heute ein deutsch klasur. mein deutsch is so so.

Hey, the gun is knocked out! I never noticed it before.

But the same should be for MGs or normal infantry, I think. You can also ram into a jeep or truck without causing any damage.

You can already run over guns in CM (I assume Moon was hinting to that).

Even a half track can run over and knock out a 8.8 cm Pak., as can an armoured car, but not a jeep if I recall correctly.

i thought that was a hint and a not a question. i had never tried that before, but now i know!

now what about infantry? can we crunch them?

I had no idea this could be done! Looks like I have some testing to do tonight. Does anyone know exactly what the cutoff line is? I.e., what about HMGs? 81mm mortars? Recoilless rifles? HMGs that are down to one man and immobile?

This would seem to strengthen the case for putting AT assets in woods or other non-AFV terrain.

thanks redeker! i was feeling all alone and stupid. i tried it at home and it works great! but, as the allies, dont be surprised is a faust comes and crunches something besides a gun at that range!

Infantry cannot be crunched, they tend to run away smile.gif But yes, anything bigger and non-moving (or slow moving) can already be run down by tanks and vehicles, provided they're heavy enough.

You mean in reality, or in game? If you mean in game, then you are wrong. You can not run down teams or any other infantry, the same for vehicels. Well, my hope is that this will be possible in CM:BB. It was a very unfriendly, but common practice on the East Front.

"...then you are wrong."

Gee, that seemed a little absolute...

Apparently those Honalee manners are pretty blunt.

Unless I missed something, it seems to me that you repeated exactly the point Moon claimed, right after you stated he was wrong.

Let me recap what I see:

Heavy Tanks- Crunch Guns? Yes.

Crunch Infantry(squad OR team)? No.

Other Vehicles- I haven't got a clue...

Does infantry crunching need to be modelled in? Maybe...

Did it account for a signigicant percentage of battlefield casualties?

considering i started learning it two months ago, it aint all that bad, but it sure aint good. bist du ein deutscher?

and hey, if you want to ask me what my name is, how old i am, what kind of food i like, what games i like to play, the names of my family members, the weather, im all ready for that! (unfortunatly, the american college 101 language classes dont get you too far into real world talking. unless someone happens to ask me how the weather is! smile.gif )

Ehm - Gallatine, call me an idiot if I'm wrong, but are you talking about the bold text in my post?

Hehe, no offense intended, Chad. ;)

Yes, I am a German, so I know how difficult german is. I'm glad I never had to learn it... German grammar... Oh my god...

I wish you all the best for you german studies!

And I know what you mean with the vocabulary not matching "real world needs".

Among the first words I learned in chinese was "socialism" and "chairman Mao"...

:D

Well remember that if you can crunch infantry that means you should be able to run your own over too.

Means much more careful plotting -- I don't think it's practicable.

Hey, don't make a good idea difficult ;)
