Me and CM

Greetings to all the grognards out there. Since I downloaded the demo I REALLY spend way too much time with this grrrreat game. And it´s getting worse every time I play it. I´m desperately waiting for the full game, but apparently the US postal plane was hit by flak...

But during one of the last battles, I encountered a strange action with one of my tanks. In the "Valley of trouble" scenario playing as the germans I stopped the allied attack and knocked out five of the shermans. My Panther closed on the remainig M4 sitting on a hill pounding my defenses with HE rounds. Due to the steep hill the Panther had no LOS on the sherm untill he crept over the ridge himself. At a distance of 9 meters (!!) he opened fire at the flank of the enemy tank - and missed (!!!!). A real sniper, this guy... The Sherm rotatet his turret as the second shot hit it in the tracks, immobilizing it.

Immobilizing it with a 75mm high-velocity shell piercing its side??? Please correct me, but that shell should go right through the M4 and leave big holes on BOTH SIDES,not only damage its track. The sherm continued to rotate its turret, fired - and missed, too. Must be the long-lost american brother of my blind panther gunner. With the third shot the Panther finally knocked the sherman out. Three rounds at 9 meter distance...No hull down/turret down position, just a tank next to another tank on a flat hilltop. And now the question: are the armor penetration and damage model correct, or do they behave STRANGE in certain situations? Or is this just demo-related and never happens in the final game? Thx in advance for answers.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of CM, ParaBellum!

Ain't it a great game!? Nothing is ever certain! The immobilization could have been the round going in one side of the Sherman, taking off the drivers head, and heading out the far side (no pun intended). Immobilized means just that, doesn't necessarily have to be the tracks being hit.

The armour penetration and stuff in this game is, AFAIK, about the most accurate available in a game.

Welcome aboard! 9 meters...and missed...I think I have seen some of that guy's relatives in my games. smile.gif

With CM, as with real life, strange things happen. Tanks miss seemingly easy targets. Light AFVs score that miracle knock out of a KT. It's all part of the fun.

Good hunting.

Thanks for the FAST answers.

@ CM Borg: hey, that wasn´t fair! My anti-assimilation-factor is EXTREMELY low today, due to excessive consumption of alcoholic liquids yesterday night.

And of course I will be in for some interesting pbem games once the full version arrives. It will come tomorrow. I know it. I FEEL IT. I already can SMELL it...

Since I live in Germany, can someone tell me how long he had to wait for the game?

For a good laugh, when you get the "real" game (i.e. not the demo), try playing a Quick Battle with Low quality armour.

You will end up with conscript tank crews, it can be hilarious if you don't care if you win or not.

I saw one of my tanks go forward, backward, forward, backward, forward... through the whole game, everytime there was a little noise the crew drove in reverse.

Don't worry about the 9m miss, imagine the panic (frenzy?) inside your tank when they realized what was happening.
