1. Um...in the interests of "truth, justice, and stuff" I feel I need to offer a point of clarification on Deadmarshes position (as I understand it). Whilst it could have perhaps been put a little less aggressively, I believe his original point in the other thread was that his opponent got Veteran troops and that according to the manual this should not have been possible. Hence queries about cheating and other unsavoury stuff which tended to cloud his case somewhat. I read the other thread, knowing from my many QB thrashings that when "medium quality" is selected for troops, the choice is either "Regular" or "Veteran". For some reason Deadmarsh was not aware of this and checked the manual. And indeed, on page 108 under "Quality" is sayeth "..At medium, only green or regular units can be bought. At high, only veteran, crack, or elite units can be bought." Mr Deadmarsh reads this, knows his QB was "medium" and can't figure out where the Veteran units came from. So all other goings on aside, it does appear as if there is a minor correction required to page 108 of the manual (as shipped in June), unless this has already been taken care of. (Personally I like to buy my own units, keeps the responsibility for my thrashings clearly at my door). OGSF
 2. Yo Matt, I went to look at the new face mod, and the link told me I was not authorised to look at them. *sniffle* OGSF
 3. Aaah! Air support....I've never actually bought any, usually playing as Wermacht and all. But I have played someone who *did* buy some. One time there were a couple of "near misses" which did not do much harm. Another time, a different opponent's air support showed up in turn 2 and killed my beautiful Panther, then strafed and panicked a couple of squads. Turn 3, came back and killed my beautiful Jagdpanther, strafed and panicked a couple of squads. Turn 4 came back and strafed and frightened another couple of squads. Seems a bit like a lottery to me - but if you win, you win big. So my advice Pat, don't buy any when you are playing me. :^) OGSF
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Scorpion: I'm downloading the files as we speak, however, I have a question, and forgive me if you've answered it already (and I'm just being dense). If I install the GRU 1.0 mod, and then Tiger or someone else makes a new vehicle mod, will it look 'funny' or different because you haven't tweaked it? Or did you not touch the vehicles at all? Regardless of whether or not you tweaked other people's vehicle mods, what exactly is in the huge vehicle zip? Are they other people's vehicle mods? I'm curious to know which mods you picked, as there have been several good Panther, Tiger, and King Tiger mods. Thank you again! I can't wait to see what it looks like... Cheers, -Scorp

Gunslinger, first up a big "thank you" for the work and incredible mods. I am getting beaten in my PBEMs much more realistically now! :^) Second, any response to Scorps' question above? I like Tiger's work and want to use his mods, but do his mods need to be "toned down" first or are they good to go with your mods as they are? Cheers, OGSF
 5. "Gun damage" on an AFV means the gun doesn't work anymore. What you have is an unarmed scout car, possibly with armour. "Bogged in" and "gun damage" means you have somewhere for your crew to keep dry from the rain. OGSF
 6. hey Rob/1, The page looks good. A minor suggestion for you - try a different color for the text, perhaps yellow. The pinky/purple color is hard to read on the blue background (for me at least). Cheers, OGSF
 7. Welcome to the Wonderful World of CM, ParaBellum! Ain't it a great game!? Nothing is ever certain! The immobilization could have been the round going in one side of the Sherman, taking off the drivers head, and heading out the far side (no pun intended). Immobilized means just that, doesn't necessarily have to be the tracks being hit. The armour penetration and stuff in this game is, AFAIK, about the most accurate available in a game. OGSF
 8. *smile* I am not certain of the exact number for all Nations, but the make up of squads has a bearing I think. German squads are 8 men, whilst Brits / Americans are 10 or 12 men in a squad. You get more for your money. I think that is at least part of the answer. OGSF
 9. Seems my ISP's mail server has thrown a track. They are a small outfit and go home on the weekends. Hopefully someone there will check their voicemail, but I could be down until Monday (or just an hour or two). I still love ya, just can't get the moves out at the moment. I'll mail you when I am back online email-wise. OGSF Late News from the Front: Mail is back up! The whupin' can continue... [This message has been edited by OberGrupenStompinFeuhrer! 10. As I wander the road of life (well, wander on, wander off, have a sit down, wander back on etc), every now and then I encounter someone who stands out from the crowd. These are usually people who act as a prism for me, letting me see things from a more enlightened perspective through their eyes. Invariably it is usually more than just what they say, how they act etc. It is the whole impression which they convey from everything they say and do, and the example they provide. I consider them to be a sort of "life-teacher", although they rarely, if ever, are aware of the fact. Lorak is, for me, one of these people. And if this patient, polite and well-reasoned man is pissed about the way Rob/1 has been treated on this forum, then somebody needs to have another look at their M.O. And I figure you wouldn't have a problem with that, unless... OGSF
 11. "Hello, just passing through. Has anyone seen a batch of Hamster-truppen wandering by? They're supposed to be on troll-patrol and I seem to have lost them somewhere. Egads! Is that a Bud Light?" (OGSF settles down for a defensive snooze in the early Autumn sun)
 12. My guess is you are using a Voodoo3 on a large map. If so, do a search in the technical forum for more info. If not - is it snowing? :^)
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Von Brizee: I have realized from this forum that what I did is normally a bad idea, but it was my first PBEM and I was doing what seemed good to me

Hey VB, I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. It's been said before but I'll say it again, it's still only a game. (It's very, very good game though). But it's helpful to keep things in perspective. I guess some people were already up with tactics and stuff when they got the game, others like me had to learn the hard way (plus play a couple of tutorials). Seems you were doing what warriors have done since Adam was a boy, dream up tactical doctrine and see if it works. Seems the consensus is that you might not always be so lucky with the results. But the only *bad* in my (truly humble) opinion is that your opponenet spat the dummy (pacifier for the Americans) and refused to play the game out. You can run your AT teams forward against me anytime! :^) OGSF
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: Whats your point? Your squad that charged my last poor surrounded squad in that house lasted what 10 sec? 15? Come get some hamster boy!

Rats and curses! I see you are made of sterner stuff. I was hoping to demoralize you and have you surrender in despair. I see now that this is not going to happen any time soon. The mothers' of my slaughtered squad members are well aware of how vicious your hamster-whompers are. So, Plan B it is then! Tonight, when it is dark,....... OGSF PS: Actually it was 7 seconds.
 15. Oh, and..MWAHAHAHAHAHA!...for good measure. OGSF (Wanders off, expecting some travesty to befall his hapless Hamstertruppen none-the-less)
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: But you'll find getting us out of this town harder than getting grease from under your fingernails.

*snarkle* *cough* *kaff* *splutter* Sorry, I was drinking a Coke when I read this. I see you have somewhat missed the point of the Puma .....I don't *want* your guys out of the town. I intend to bury them under it with my Self-Propelled "top hit, no serious damage" Gun! Can't do that if they run away, can I? And Mr Puma is there to make sure they stay and fight. ;~) OGSF
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: Oh and your puma is starting to make my ass itch.. It is like a bad rash. Lorak

I'm looking ahead to CM2 and trying out some Russian tactics I've read about. My Puma is just making sure your lads stay and fight! Time will tell, but it looks like your boys are in more trouble than the early settlers. :^) OGSF
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Von Brizee: I was just posting this because I was doing a PBEM and I put 2 schreck teams in forward positions on a hill in some woods. I killed a Greyhound, 2 Shermans, and a halftrack with them. He cried "Gamey" and ended the game right there. I was just wondering what the people here have to say.

You posted this while I was typing my other reply. I think I remember a couple of early PBEMs I played where my armour was killed in a similar situation. I learned to screen my armour with infantry. Sounds like you weren't scouting with AT teams though, but had set up ambushes. Whatever, it worked for you that time, against that opponent. Do it against someone who protects their armour with infantry, and you might decide it's too expensive a tactic to make a habit of. I can imagine your opponent being upset, but I wouldn't quit a game because I was punished for playing badly. One has to take their lumps, learn from them and do better next time. Still, he must have been spitting chips... :^) OGSF
 19. I don't reckon sticking AT teams out for recon is gamey. They're gonna die if you are playing me, my lads will sniff 'em out and "eliminate" them. I figure if you scout with AT teams, you expect your opponent to scout with armour. In that case you probably deserve each other. I reckon these things rarely matter in CM, because overall "realistic" tactics will produce the win. There will be instances where a lone AT team, a jeep rush or an obvious edge hugging advance gets lucky, but it won't be enough to win consistently IMHO. The old half squad, now *thats* a tool for sniffing out ambushes, eh Lorak? :^) OGSF
 20. On the surface, IW's suggestion seems to make sense. But it may already be happening. I think AC crews are an abstraction the same as the three man squad is an abstraction of the full number of troops in a squad. I think if I was in an AC and my driver was hit, where my survival depended on getting the vehicle moving again I would make a lot of effort to replace the driver with another crew member. I may not always get it done in time, but that is what the "shocked" state simulates. Similarly if the gunner is hit, this is abstracted as "gun damage" - although this may also represent physical damage and jammed breeches etc. It seems that if the crew or other damage can be made good in some way, the vehicle is "shocked" for a period of time. If the damage becomes too much, then the remnants of the crew abandon the vehicle. OGSF
 21. Tiger, I've been following your mod related posts and just want to say that I reckon the CM community is richer for your efforts. There has been and will be interesting debates and feedback for you, but I read these as being in support of what you are doing. I guess I'm just taking a lot of words to say "thank you". OGSF
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael emrys: Hey, OGSF! Hadn't seen you around for a while. You been gone, or do I need new glasses? Michael

I've been here and there...not posting too much though, gotta be careful these days with so much controversey about! Liable to get one's ears boxed. I did post to a thread entitled "we've seen those flags" and unveiled the much vaunted KruppSpringenHamsterFlingenMachinen. However, I still keep clear of the SS-Hamstertruppen-soggy-bummed-piddle-pants when buying units. OGSF
 23. I can stand to be whupped by a couple more opponents. I can manage an average of one move a day (evening) cos of school and work and stuff. I prefer to play as Germans, QBs' and small to medium maps. But any and every variation is fine. First two or three to contact me get the honor of slaughtering my hapless troops. kevint@boulder.net OGSF
