This election is almost exciting as any CM scenario.

Ok Bush is an idiot and Gore is a liar, who would YOU elect? The only REAL candidate for the people was Nader. He is truly against all of this one world/globalization/NAFTA/ socialistic garden path that both major parties are leading us down. There is not one whit of difference in the ultimate goals of the republican and the democratic parties, and if you think otherwise you deserve what you're going to get.<-tink->

I voted for Nader in '96, so I have nothing personal against Nader, but...

He never had a shot. Never has, never will.

Like it or not, America's a two party system. No one has yet proven that there's a viable third party option.

Given that, I think that Nader acted extremely irresponsibly. What do you think's going to happen if Gore loses this round because Nader stole the Democratic Party's left-wing vote? The Democratic Party isn't going to say, "Hmm, let's go left to try to get the Nader vote back." They're going to say, "Hmm, let's go right and try to steal the moderate-right vote from the Republicans." It's a lose-lose situation.

I voted for Nader in '96 because I lived in a slam-dunk Democrat stronghold state (NY), and because the overall election wasn't hotly contested. I wouldn't have done so this time, because I'm honestly quite annoyed at his behavior.

And by the way, where'd all this "socialist garden path" stuff come from? I'm sorry, but I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who honestly thinks that either the Republicans or the Democrats sponsor some sort of New World Order, black helicopter Globalism. It's a myth, and it's been a third-party bugbear for years. No such thing will happen, nor could it.

Jeff if you were truly a Republican you would not vote for Algore or be accusing the religious right as you do. Bush has not run around discussing overturning Roe V Wade. You talk just like a liberal, wanting to divide people not unite them.

Bush will selct Judges who interpret the Constitution not redefine it.

And you talk just like a true party flack. "OK children, let's see how many buzzwords we can use in our post!"

That is hilarious, and exactly what I mean by I hope that the Republican Party some day gets back to what it means to be a Republican.

Here is a hint: It has nothing to do with religion, nothing to do with some minorities definition of morality, and nothing to do with 99.9% of what that fat idiot Rush Limbaugh has to say. "Unity". What a joke.

Finally, *you* do not get to define what I am, thank you very much. I am a Republican, and whether you like it or not, membership in that party is not predicated upon checking your intellect at the door to be replaced by whatever vitriol is spewing out of the mouth of ignorant talk show hosts.

Isn't that funny, now Jeff and I have something in common. I am not a true German, he is not a true Republican. Never thought that would happen.

Always interesting to see who recently made it to be chief of the ISO, defining who is a true somefink.

Although we are foreigners here (all of us, some more so than others, but all somewhere), there were quite a few discussions today about the vote. Our organisation was created following the Rio Summit, and no prizes for guessing who we support. We actually understand that US policy in the future will have a huge impact on global environmental issues.

Having said that, I believe for many people in Europe this topic is not particularly interesting. Apart from the entertainment value of the recount drama. The US is apparently never a country to shun drama. Any bets on how likely it is this whole issue will end up in the courts?

Election thoughts.

1) Most increadible election I have ever seen. Went from elation to uncertainty to depression, back to uncertainty.

2) Did my part. Won my state (PA) for my guy. But looks like the country is in the hands of Florida.

3) Its kind of interesting that with a few exceptions the election broke down almost totally along Civil War lines. Kind of makes you wonder.

Just as a foreigner living in the USA I have to say I am starting to get all defensive about Bush & Gore, actually really pissed off hearing foriegn media reporters making blanket statements. I want to smack em down and say "Bugger off back to your own country and mind your own business then." smile.gif

I mean Americans are pretty open people but jeez its THEIR country, contrary to popular beleif this ISNT an election for "leader of the free world" (there is no such office) its an American election to be decided by Americans. I for one am impressed by how they are handling it.

This is why I dislike the electoral college. One winner-takes-all state has the final say in the election. I didn't vote for Mr. Gore, but I feel that the guy with the most popular votes should win.

Everybody here that keeps claiming they heard such and such about so and so and these ballots were taken and so on. You are really falling into man. The news has already made three mistakes so far in the papers and on TV that I know of. These are the people you think have the professionalism to give you an unbiased view point of it all and they are not doing a very good job. So just wait and see 'cause whatever you hear next may not be the truth. In a few days we'll know for sure.

Except your black people got to vote this time. Did they all flee to the north or what?

Ok folks,

This thread is obviously off topic, and it is also one that is likely to drone on and on well past whenever they finally decide who one. I'm going to lock this one up now and return to watching CNN for more boring and repetative commentary smile.gif

Steve

P.S. let's not start up any new threads about the election, OK? smile.gif
