Attention Mac users

I posted this on another thread.

As a Mac user, I have bought all my games directly from Battlefront and even have physical CD copies of the some of games and early game manuals. How will future Mac versions of the game be sold ? Directly from Slitherine as a download as I have previously done with a activation key or will it have to be via Steam ?

I am not familiar with Steam for Macs.

I think Elvis said that the old serial number system from BFC will(?) be kept alive for Mac.

In case you don't know, you don't need Steam for the Windows version either, there is a Matrix/Slitherine version with a serial number.

Technically, the Battlefront activation system will remain alive for both Mac and Windows. Just, moving forward, the Windows Battlefront versions will not be available.

I was (and still am) of the CM1 series from back in early 2000s and when CMBN, CMFI and CMRT came out in 2011, 2012 and 2014, as well the Commonwealth pack and Gustave Line, I bought both Mac and PC versions even though I don't even own a PC. This was in case I ever needed to play CM2 on a PC. So I actually have activation codes for PC versions too except I have never installed them nor played them.

If eventually I need to upgrade my existing Windows versions which I think is only up to engine 3, what are my options in purchasing the upgrade packs without buying the complete game again. I have activation codes for my current windows games and modules.

You would need to redeem your Battlefront keys to Steam and/or Matrix/Slitherine keys. Then buy any additional DLC through there

Another related Mac question if anyone knows.

How do Mac users join in the CM tournaments that Slitherine runs. I presume they use the PBEM+ system which is not on Mac's as far as I know. Not that I am planning to join one as I will be going away for 3 weeks from the 9th Sept anyway.

You can't.

I tried it out with the Windows version in Parallels, which is suffering performance problems.

Theoretically you could try the Windows version in Wine.

or with Code Weaver 😁 easier to install and set up (than Wine and Wine is based on it - previous versions - anyway) but need to toss few bucks for that

Do you have it installed? It would be great if somebody (aka you :)) could check whether they have the required CMx2 patch.

as soon as I get bored and finish up all BFC campaigns (aka. for 2048) 😄. I'd rather suggest to download the free trial version (fully functional version for a month) and get in touch with Code Weaver support team if needed.

So confused. Long long long time Battlefront mac user with ALL the CM games. Not sure what all this means going forward for mac users. I look on Slitherine, Matrix, and Steam and don't see any of the mac games or any indication they will support them. If I am wrong post link for me.  I read Steve message someone posted a link to above and it sounds like mac development will continue. But if so, where will we get new mac games and upgrades.  Will they just magically so up in the folder at the top of this thread. Again so confused and sad the website went away, Slitherine, Matrix, and Steam are a mess to navigate and like I said I can find any mac info there at all. It feels like the Mac CM world is ending 😞

I think we should all just wait just a bit and see what shakes out. Steve made a post in page 4 of the Big Announcement thread adjacent to this. Sounds like there is more news to come. CM3 sounds easier to port than CM2. Note that we are ALREADY a bit out of the loop because current Mac OS versions do not support PBEM++ (I don't consider that a great handicap but it does lock you out of tournaments, if that's your thing). Basically sounds like they still need to discuss the subject.

Allow me to clarify!

As you guys all know, Slitherine does not actively support Mac products.  They do support legacy Mac products because they don't like leaving customers hanging.  We're working through the details of how to handle CM2 Mac products going forward, but we don't want to say too much until we've nailed down the exact policy.  Why don't we have one already?  Well, because we had a lot going on and didn't think we'd get pounced on by so many Mac guys so quickly.  Should we have expected that?  Why yes, we should have, so our bad!

As for CM3, pretty much nothing is being discussed about that product line at all right now.  When we do, we'll let you guys know about Mac support.  Keep in mind that Unity is truly cross platformable and CM3 already runs quite nicely on my Mac Book Pros.  Just say'n.

Any word from Battlefront/Slitherine on how we can purchase Mac versions of any CM2 games we don't already own?  All the info I've seen has been about reinstalling/activating Mac versions we already own using the installers and the BFC keys.  Thanks.

Cheers,

Jeff

We can accomadate anyone that wants to purchase new games or DLC. As a matter of fact, I've been doing it for a guy who has been buying up CM games over the last week. The process is simple. Purchase what you want from the Slitherine or Matrix sites. Contact me with proof of purchase and the license key that comes with the purchase. I'm able to use that key and turn it into a Battlefront key. You then use it as normal with the Mac Battlefront version of the game.

There is still nothing to report about Mac support. If we are able to provide Mac support then your bolded sentence will be true. A full installer with whatever has changed with a game version will link to a full installer containing the change (patch or new content). That is if  there is continued support.

Great news on being able to convert a Slitherine windows key to a Mac key for CM2 games.  Wish we would have known about that last week or so when Slitherine had all the CM2 products on sale.  Anyway, at least there is a process now, and I really appreciate that being clarified.  Is this just a temporary work around, or will this be the normal way to purchase Mac CM products (CM3, CM2 DLC, etc.) in the future?  Thanks again for all your assistance in this.

Cheers,
Jeff

While this isn't a change from what's been said previously about Mac support, this does sound a bit less optimistic about there being Mac support in the future.  Steve's message seems a bit more optimistic about Mac support going forward which was encouraging.  Now, given Slitherine's past history of dropping Mac support and BFCElvis' last statement (with a bolded if), I'm not nearly has hopeful we'll see CM3 on a Mac anymore.  Hopefully, I'm reading way too much into this and I'm completely wrong, but only time will tell.

Nothing has changed since Steve's post. I am just being careful not to commit to anything. I'd hate for somewhere down line for someone to say "but Elvis said blah blah blah blah." The only conversation that has happened since Steve's post was about how to handle Mac users who want to purchase content that is available now.

I will try to be hopefully optimistic for continued Mac support, at least until they pry my cold dead fingers from my apple mouse. I believe Steve is a long time Mac user, he probably started with an Apple IIe, like myself.  If I have to, since I LOVE this game THAT much, I will get PC just for CM. I always had to use one when I was a working stiff because they FORCED me to.
