Paulus
Hi, I'm playing for several years, and I'm finally getting somewhat familiar with infantry tactics. But this reveals my noobiness in tank tactics, especially in built up areas. I'm not sure how tanks are used "in the best way" Do i create a wall of steel, blasting every possible hide-out, protecting infantry? Do i hide the tanks behind walls and houses, only to advance in order to blast identified positions? I just seem to get ambushed by key-holed AT weapons and Pz shrecks.Perhaps someone can help me out! Regards Paul
c3k
Just like infantry, tanks do better from the upper floors. Keyhole, keyhole, keyhole. And flank. Then move. Use their mobility. Infantry have the eyes, tanks have the hit. Don't lead with tanks: infiltrate with infantry and follow-up with tanks.

In addition to that, limit their exposure time by giving them Target Briefly orders while paused at waypoints. With a careful combination of Covered Arc, Pause and Target Briefly most tanks can stop, pop and move again within 5 seconds.
Hapless
Tanks were used very effectively in Fallujah and Aachen for example, they're worth a look. Grozny is worth another look if you want to know how to do it wrong. Self propelled guns are usually a good investment if you're getting to pick your own stuff. Don't forget that your tanks have some good indirect ways to support your infantry without actually engaging the enemy:They can usually put down some effective smoke, either by shells or launchersYou can use HE to mousehole your way into buildings and avoid front doors and streetsThey're also noisy as hell so in theory you can use them as part of your deception plan- haven't really tried or tested this one, but giving the enemy a load of vehicle/armour sound contacts to build up his intelligence picture on your terms is probably worth it if he already knows you have tanks.
Bulletpoint
Not sure if you are palying vs the computer or againsta human. If it's against the computer, then you don't need to move the tanks about so much. Basically they are assault guns in that case. I'd say lead with infantry, then only bring up the tank to blast identified strongpoints. And don't poke them too far forward.
