Bulletpoint
Just wondering why squads of US mechanized infantry don't carry Thompson SMGs and automatic rifles like the regular infantry squads do...? You'd think there'd be enough space in their halftracks
PanzerMike
I was wondering the same thing. This is what I found: Apparently no BAR or Thomsons. Only a few M3 Grease guns (for the halftrack driver?) Edit: and I found this: http://community.battlefront.com/topic/103903-bar-teams-grog-question/ Edited May 30, 2015 by PanzerMike
womble
Because they have an organic MMG section instead. Unified ammo makes resupply easier, so no "front line" .45 ACP (or .30CAR) throwers that need large quantities of "divergent" ammo, at least in doctrinal use. The Garand has pretty good lead output at most combat ranges.
Ts4EVER
That being said, according to TOE normal infantry didn't have Thompsons either.
Bulletpoint
That being said, according to TOE normal infantry didn't have Thompsons either. Surprised to hear that. I thought they were standard issue. How come they have them in the game then?
akd
That being said, according to TOE normal infantry didn't have Thompsons either. 6 SMGs were added to the rifle company HQ as spares in a June 1944 change. 6 additional BARs as well.
Ts4EVER
Yeah I meant in the actual rifle squad setup, they were just listed as having 1 BAR and 11 Garands. Thompsons were given out where available, although I seem to remember that for example the 29th infantry division didn't have any on D-Day.
Rinaldi
Surprised to hear that. I thought they were standard issue. How come they have them in the game then? Thompsons were issued to the Company, I believe 6 per, and handed out on a mission basis, at least in theory. In practice they were openly pilfered and kept by men. Edit: Bah, akd beat me to it.
