Headcount percentage at start

Considering the long and grueling nature of  the Italian campaign, I'm wondering how often units would actually start an engagement with a %100 headcount. 

My impression is that scenario designers rather rarely start you off with anything less than %100, at least at the platoon and company level. But wouldn't units normally be at some fraction of their TO&E strength, unless it was the very start of a well-prepared operation?

The vast majority of scenarios do start with both sides at full TO&E, but I agree that the realism and immersion factor is greater is they are at varying (under)strength.

AIUI, this would be true of almost any engagement in any period or theatre, even at the beginning of a campaign. Units were hardly ever at full paper strength. They might be close, only missing one or two from a platoon, but even 90% of full complement was rare under operational conditions.

I guess I will have to finish making a scenario one day, and put in some of those depleted units.

We have some openings to do some short scenarios as part of an overall campaign.

You could just do small bits and pieces to learn or take on an entire small scenario, maybe 20 minutes long with a lot of the tasks already accomplished or you can run with the ball and call more of the shots if you have time and capability.
