Mine clearing

Recommended Posts

CM does actually track the total # of mines in an action spot as well. I forget exactly, but IIRC the total # of mines in an AP mine square is about 20.

That seems like a lot. 1 per 3 square metres? Much digging to emplace... Makes one infantry "encounter" with the mines only degrade it a tiny amount, I suppose.

Not really. So if they're laid in an even 5x4 grid per action spot (which they probably wouldn't be, but for simplicity's sake), each mine is ~ 1.6 m from its nearest neighbor. A fairly dense minefield, but not so dense that a single person doesn't have a decent chance of walking across a single 8m action spot and missing all the mines.

IRL, minefields were of varying densities depending on purpose and available resources. What CM gives us is at the denser end of the spectrum, what would be termed "barrier" minefield, as opposed to a "harassment" or "nuisance" minefield.

I found the following at the Combat Mission wiki site. I don't know how accurate it is.

Here are the setup strength levels of the three kinds of minefields, in the two kinds of mine. All amounts are approximations based on in-game testing:

AP AT

antipersonnel 14 0

antitank 0 2-3

mixed 10 1-2
