By "political cleansing" may we assume you mean the removal of Hitler and the Nazis? Otherwise, the discussion is beginning to take an ominous tone. While Lenin and Stalin liquidated all reactionaries, and Röhm, chief of the SA, was for a cleansing of the Reichswehr, Hitler wanted to avoid this and reached everyone his hand who honestly wanted to help building up the new Germany. It's very simple: if Hitler would have done at least partially what the Anti-NS-Propaganda is claiming, the biggest betrayal in military history would have not been possible in that dimensions. So if you were a Jew and believed in Germany, and wanted to help build it, you weren't put into a concentration camp or forced out of the country after handing over all your possessions? Hey, learn something new every day. Dachau was actually a summer camp for the most favored members of German society. Like Catholic clergy, Jews, intellectuals, gays, people who crossed the wrong party officials in personal dealings, family of enemies of the state, etc. A great time was had by all. If Hitler had done the amount of purging as some people think the military leadership would have been far more NS minded than it in fact was. At least at the beginning before they were purged. The war wasn't truly lost until Hitler had completely gutted the officer corps of independent military professionals and replaced them with inept toadies. Therefore, logic dictates that a winder purge earlier on would have lost the war for Germany sooner and saved Europe untold amounts of misery. The list of officers eventually purged reads like a whose-who of some of the most effective military leaders of modern time... Halder, Manstein, Guderian, Rommel, Brauchitsch, Busch, etc. Yup, Himmler and Göring should have been put in charge of the war effort a lot sooner. Because they were such effective military leaders.
