Wicky
Smells of glassfibre for a gullible Iranian public http://theaviationist.com/2013/02/02/iran-new-stealth-fighter/ The prototype of the Q-313 (or F-313 according to the stencils applied to the aircraft), was presented to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and publicly displayed as part of the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies held in Iran to celebrate the 1979′s victory of the Islamic Revolution. In the previous days, the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi had said, “The aircraft will be different from the other fighter jets Iran has already made.” Iranian MOD pics http://mod.ir/category/گالری-عکس/گزارش-تصویریرونمایی-هواپيماي-جنگنده-قاهر-313-با-حضور-رئیس-جمهور?page=1 You can smell the resin and wood glue http://mod.ir/sites/default/files/images/f313.17.preview.jpg

Michael Emrys
I have some doubts about just how stealthy it would be—the engine inlets and cockpit look like they would give strong returns for instance—but otherwise it looks like a fairly decent job. It looks small and lightweight. Probably a point defense interceptor without much range or time aloft, but that would seem to fit most of Iran's immediate needs. The time to worry is when they start to turn out longer ranged bombers/attack planes and escort fighters. Michael
Michael Emrys
You can smell the resin and wood glue Then quite possibly a mock-up of a design that is yet to go into production. Michael
Wicky
Its been portrayed as a flying prototype.... See the video
Other Means
The airframe looks a good shape, which is a good 30% of how a modern fighter will perform. The engine will be an unremarkable Soviet design from the 80s, the training to use it limited and the avionics on the level of a Sabre. Any competent airforce would treat them as a speedbump. But still - better than what they have probably, and good for morale. You could almost imagine the design bureau's brief being "Make it look like Thunderbirds".

Sublime
Still, some times it is worrying thinking about Iran and North Korea. Countries do strange things when they whip themselves up into fear and warmongering.

Other Means
Speaking of NK, Wikipedia is reporting that they performed a nuclear test the other day. Michael And the Chinese chastised them within 12 hours. This is something of a lightening strike in Chinese diplomacy terms, they'd usually take around a week to do anything.
Sublime
How very true. Why does the recent Iraq conflict come to mind I wonder? Regards KR Because it's a good example of what I was referring to. Of course Iraq had the prelude of 9/11. Even though now it's obvious they weren't linked, at the time it wasn't so obvious. And Iran and North Korea have no such catalyst.

Even though now it's obvious they weren't linked, at the time it wasn't so obvious. Actually, it was seemingly pretty obvious to a number of people I was reading in 2003. And they weren't keeping their light under a bushel either. It's just that the administration for reasons of its own chose to ignore any evidence pointing in that direction. And Iran and North Korea have no such catalyst. In the case of Iran, the West has a history of interfering in their internal politics for several generations. I make no similar excuses for North Korea. Michael

In the case of Iran, the West has a history of interfering in their internal politics for several generations. I make no similar excuses for North Korea. Michael Well of course hindsight is 20/20. The admin ignored the evidence, and the evidence it allowed the public to see completely skewed the picture. It was a terrible mistake to make though, and an enormous waste of lives on both sides. That being said, hasn't been some massive terrorist attack that killed 3k people on either Iran or North Korea - at all - ever to my knowledge and certainly not any time in the last twenty years. That's what I meant about whipping people up. You had to live in the US to understand it then, people where scared, angry, and wanted to hurt whoever did that. The population was that much clay in the administration's hands, because 9/11. If you contrast to say Iranian news (propaganda) which basically invents problems with us to scare their population. Same with North Korea, if perhaps worse.
