jaeger8888
If not, will they be introducing it in later releases? Thanks.
GreenAsJade
You can certainly get flamed for asking that (again). GaJ
Schrullenhaft
To answer the question, NO. There are no flamethrowers or burning terrain/buildings in CMBN at this point. The 'version 2.0' engine is currently being worked on, but it STILL will NOT support fires and flamethrowers to my knowledge (since CMFI doesn't support this feature and that is what CMBN is being upgraded to at this point). I'm under the impression that fire is a fairly major feature to code up with the effects (and animation) that Battlefront desires for the game. With that in mind I assume that it will be a feature that is coded up as part of an 'engine upgrade'. So that MAY suggest that the 'version 3.0 engine' will have to be developed to support this feature. I believe, but I don't know for certain that CMBN may get a 'version 3.0' engine upgrade in the future. How far away this is, I don't know. I may be incorrect in my recollections about the intent for CMBN to get engine upgrades beyond 2.0. This is speculation on my part as to when and in what form fire and flamethrowers will be supported. I haven't heard any details at this point to know the exact plans for introducing this feature.
sburke
I hold matches up to my screen. It sets off the smoke alarm, but I just pretend that is the air raid warning.
noob
There are no flamethrowers in this game, this is due to the oppressive level of red tape prevalent in most societies these days, so it's consequently been left out for reasons of health and safety, and also for insurance purposes, however that's my bad, i should never have tried to claim compensation for being exposed to a forum response from Jon S.
John Kettler
jaeger8888, The absence of any form of fire other than burning vehicles is galling to many of us, but that's how it is in CMx2. If you want fire, then you need CMx1: CMBO,CMBB and CMAK, where you will find flamethrowers, flamethrowing armor and burning buildings and terrain. From an ordinary logical and emotional perspective, the fire situation in CMx2 seems to be the Great Leap Backwards, but in Coding Land, things are rather different. A few people write ALL the code, and if they're writing code to torch things, they're not coding, say, Market Garden, Bulge or Op Bagration. Thus, we have agonizing discussions over what WE think ought to be done, then BFC goes off and does what it has determined NEEDS to be done! sburke, Were you, by any chance, one of those people who tried Jim Dunnigan's suggestion for modeling tac nukes in the SPI modern wargames? "Pour lighter fluid on the map, then ignite it with a match." Pretty funny rejoinder! Regards, John Kettler
Michael Emrys
Were you, by any chance, one of those people who tried Jim Dunnigan's suggestion for modeling tac nukes in the SPI modern wargames? "Pour lighter fluid on the map, then ignite it with a match." Heh, I remember that. Wasn't that a comment in the rules to the modern war quad circa 1977? John Kettler
Michael Emrys, Your memory may well be correct. If so, I either read it in SPI's S&T magazine or it was quoted elsewhere. How do I know this? I never had even one of the games in that quad. I do recall reading the burghers of Wurzburg were NOT happy to find their city in a wargame. Another possibility is that the same quote may've appeared as a comment in the game notes to Red Star, White Star or Mech War 77, both of which I played extensively.
