Cancel artillery when spotter is dead?

Recommended Posts

In my current game of 'Lemon Hill' I have a problem:

I set an artillery strike, and it takes a very long time to arrive (30+ mins), in the meantime the Commander (spotter) got killed. Now I cannot cancel the artillery strike, and since I've got guys close to the strike target I want to cancel the strike.

The unit shows up as 'denied' for the commander unit, while other nearby units get 'busy' and can't do anything either.

Any idea what to do in such a situation, and is it a bug?

This has come up a few times in the past apparently:

In the mission I am trying to avoid the target area, but I've got spotting rounds landing dangerously close to my troops now. Should not the strike be canceled if the battery doesn't receive any confirmation of spotting rounds?

The issue here is that a death during the spotting sequence probably should result in cancelling the whole mission. I don't think it went like:

"Hello, this is battery. Spotting shell coming in."

"Hello, do you copy? Do you want another spotting round?"

"I still can't hear you. We will now shoot another spotting round. Tell us if you see it."

Hello:

I thought this was a feature of CM? That is, once the spotter dies you cannot cancel the strike? I had this happen in a recent CMBN game.

Thanks,

Gerry

It seems to be the way it works, which may or may not be the way it's intended to work. The request from akd for a save suggests it may not be meant to be that way.
