Combat Mission: TOUCH for iPad

Recommended Posts

any chance to find this on android? If so, might have found something to do on the bus other than read war books!

Look over on the CM:T forum for an answer directly from the developer (Claytonius Rex).

In brief: They already have the code running on Android, so it's definitely a possibility. When and if it comes out for Android, and for which Android devices, depends a lot on level of interest.

I REALLY hope that you optimistic guys are right and that this won't affect BFC's plans for the future of the hardcore CM2 wargame series.

I am not bitching, it's just been my unfortunate life experience that when real money is suddenly on the table, all best intentions fly out the window. And the BF guys certainly deserve to make their fortunes after the 12+ years of pleasure they have provided us.

However, look at the genre and type of games that are available for Apple products. They want mass market stuff. Wargaming at the realistic level of CM2 is and will almost certainly be a tiny niche market for the foreseeable future.

What leads you to this conclusion? There's a lot of weird, quirky, and niche-market games available for Apple products, both iOS and OSX.

Of course, the big Mass-Market successes that sell millions of copies like the Infinity Blade and Angry Birds franchises get the most attention in the mainstream press, but this is no different than the Windows platform gaming market really.

Don't know where you get the idea that iPad games are only "twitchy." There are a lot of pretty cool "non-twitchy" games out there for iOS of various flavors, including some very well done turn-based strategy games. Most of them to date have been more abstract, IGOYOUGO type games -- the kind of thing you used to see on PCs in the early 90s (as a sidebar, they just released Spaceward Ho! for iPad, one of my FAVORITE turn-based strategy games from the '90s).

Also Civilization Revolution is an interesting turn-based strategy game

"Combat Mission: Touch", Battlefront.com's debut on the mobile platform and the first full 3D wargame for the iPad 2 and the New iPad, is storming the AppStore charts after just 48 hours.

In the Strategy and Simulation categories, Combat Mission Touch topped the charts in Finland (we love you guys!) as #1 Top Paid App, and placed within the Top 5 in 24 countries, including the United States, UK, France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand and others. It reached Top 10 tankings in 43 countries the Top 100 in a further 111 countries. Furthermore, we reached Top 10 and Top 100 placements for all games, and in fact all apps of all genres in 43 countries.

One can only applaude to this genius decision. The cross-marketing effect on the big releases should be HUGE!
