    To be honest the Slitherine screenshots aren't showing the game in the best light as is. Also, screenshots that have already been officially published show very incorrect (unfinished) things as well. The US infantry with WW2 BDUs and multicam radio packs are kit.

    Each map will be 1x1km (just like the hexes) Their creation will be aided by per-existing maps, user-made maps (cut up and edited), and since I have a lot of experience making maps I will be doing most of them by hand probably. The maps terrain will correspond to the real life location the battles take place in.

  3. Hello, I am Rice and I am about to start my first trial run of my Combat Mission Afghanistan dynamic campaign; Afghan Dust.

    This dynamic campaign will feature 6 total players and me, as the Game Master. I will post screenshots and updates about the ongoing game here. As for introduction to how the game is intended to work I will provide a brief description. Currently the trial run is meant to serve as a Beta Test to make sure it holds up as an actually playable game.

    What units do the players command?

    Each team has a battalion starting out. The Soviets in this trial run will be starting with an Motorized Rifle Battalion using BTR-60PBs. Each player gets one of the three companies. They must then decide as a team where to deploy the remaining assets (for this game, they will have an Anti-Tank platoon to allocate where they all agree it would be best). The Mujahideen has an Islamic Battalion backing them as well. (Same player to player distribution as soviets in terms of command)

    Each team will get addition assets such as artillery, aircraft, and more units as per GM allocation.

    What is the map like?

    The map is a patch torn out of Afghanistan's mountain highways. The game centers around the town of Anjoman and the surrounding terrain.

    How long is the campaign?

    This depends on the objectives but games objective but I am not sure how long it will take in real time to play out. I expect 3 weeks to 1 month.

    How can I join?

    The game will open up to the public once the Trial Game has concluded and I have had made time to review and alter the games rules and structure for a more fun experience. I will post on this thread when that happens.

Look at Chernobyl a nuclear accident it affected all Western Europe too. Poison gas and nerve agents don't abide by the area of operations. METT-TC stipulates the C last but not least. Civilian considerations, means restoring the infrastructure. Post WW2 we had the Marshall Plan which was a costly exercise. 

    This is just justification for not using it IRL, my original post was about the logic of your first message. I think it makes sense not to add it but that wasn't what I was pointing out lol.

    It's theoretically possible to stuff the barrel on your PK through the port while the mounting mechanism removed. So, perhaps it may be possible to fit in (it would be extremely awkward and impractical) Also, the venting system that's meant to help keep the gasses/fumes from firing the weapon out of the crew compartment would not be applicable. Here's a pic of removing an AK. You need to turn it sideways to get the front sight post to fit through. I don't have data of the height of the front sight and barrel on a PK but if you may be able to hook it through.. Same goes for the SVD. Again, the rotating and yawing firing port mount (the part with the glass) won't be locked to the guns movement so you functionality there. Not sure sure if the locking piece is compatible with the SVD but it's possible.

    The key take away is it's definitely not intended but perhaps possible to use an SVD or PK's barrel out the window but the actual use of the weapon would be extremely awkward and possibly dangerous to the inside crew (no ventilation of gasses).

    No, sadly they cannot. The BMP's firing powers are p. specifically made for AKs. I can't find exact numbers but you could probably fit an RPK into the firing port? Definitely not a PK. The barrel is too thicc, also I'm not sure but it's possible that the spacing between the barrel and gastube would also cause issues with the firing port. Here's an image to help;

    EDIT: Forgot to mention it would almost be impossible to use because of the PKs iron sights. These firing ports are specifically made for iron sights to sit at the bottom of the window. The PK's irons are might higher thank the AKs because the gas tube is under the barrel yet the sights are still raised on a post like an AKs.

  7. CMA covers 1979 - 1992. There's an absolutely huge amount of TO&E. I recommend people looking for a sneak peak at Soviet forces in CW to play CMA. I have been playing through the 1980 invasion campaign and it's been a lot of fun to command an MRB in 1980. Definitely not top of the line equipment but capable. Great teacher for how to play as the Soviets in the upcoming title. Though admittedly, counter-insurgency and conventional peer on peer conflicts play differently haha.

    The AK isn't inaccurate. That's a myth. I think you're referring to 7.62x39 being a much heavier and slower moving bullet compared to 5.56x45.. The practical accuracy of the M16 (You aren't specifying what variant but either way 20 inch barrel) is flat shooting because of it projectile being significantly lighter thus traveling significantly faster than 7.62x39. The AK platform can be extremely accurate, that's why they turned them into sniper rifles; i.e. PSL, M76, M91.. (These are snipers according to their doctrine, but could just be considered DMRs under NATO doctrine). Honestly it's not going to make a practical difference for Militias or conscripts lol. If you're doing anything that would warrant cleaning an AR-15, you are really going to want to clean your AK tbh.

    AKs aren't insanely reliable unstoppable machines, the early Finnish Valmets, and S.A. Vektors aren't a crazy new design either (The S.A. stuff is just licensed built Galils.). They don't offer any more practical accuracy over Russian production AKs either.. Also they are p. archaic as far as AKs go. Every Galil variants weight is north of 8 pounds.  The OG RK62 (of which the Galil is inspired) itself is 7.7 pounds. The AKM, which came around about the same time, is the better package all around imo.

    The AR-15 family of firearms is always going to better though :^)

    They work in CMA, and honestly probably more like 80% of the time. They cover a 40 degree arc (wherever the turret is pointing). Even they though stop Karl Gustav, RPG-2, and RPG-7 munitions, it still is likely to damage the vehicle (tracks) do to the munition being blow up in the process. Very cool vehicles that only ever really got experimented with in small numbers in Afghan sadly. Would love to see them go up against NATO stuff. (Same for BMP-1D and 2D). Still hoping for Afghanistan Module for CW

  11. It entirely depends on the specific type of body armor. The first general issue body army for the US Army and Marines was a Flak Jacket, meaning it's designed to stop debris and shrapnel. Up until the ~90s effectively body armor was just these "Flak Jackets". Recent penetration tests of old armor show that it's around level IIA (Stops 9mm and .40 cal), while new production of the same models is around level II (stops 9mm and .357). Modern US issue body armor is has plates in it that are specifically made to stop rifle rounds. It depends on the place but iirc the standard issue for infantrymen is currently level IV plates (Stops up to 30.06 AP).

    Through your testing have you found it particularly effective compared to other mobile ATGM platforms? How does it compare to the performance of the M901?
