  1. One of the biggest things I'm wondering about CMCW is how much effective use can we bank on getting out of air assets? From Heli's to Strike Aircraft, I'm curious as to the amount of effectiveness they will have on the battle overall considering the effectiveness of the then modern SPAA. Anyone with knowledge on this care to shed some insight on how to effectively use aircraft, what kind of aircraft will make the most difference, and if our ground assets should be deployed / used differently to help void some of the effect of these aircraft?

In the real world M60 series gun depression was -10 degrees, T72 was -6 degrees. This actually caused problems on M60A2. On an incline at max depression a M60A2 tank commander wouldn't be able to see over the turret nose so they had to include a very tall cupola to get him high enough to peer over it. Take a guess what's usually the first thing to get hit on an M60A2.

How much time have you had with the M60A2? I'm curious as to it's performance against T-64s.

T55 isn't fielding APFSDS in the game (it does in CMSF2). It fields APDS, I assume the UBM6 round BM8 HVAPDS projectile. The MT-12 towed anti-tank gun fires APFSDS, I assume the 3UBM10 round. According to my one brief test its relatively ineffective against M60 frontally at ranges over 1000m

The MT-12 will be very very interesting to use. I really enjoyed a video of the East Germans using them that was in the recommended videos thread. As long as the M60A1 keeps it's distance, 225mm of pen at 1000m won't get through it's upper glacis (258mm effectively) or the front of the turret at 250mm (Just as you said). The 3UBK8 (HEAT) offer 400mm of pen but has a max effective range of 1000m (according to wikipedia). I don't know what it is point blank pen is though.

The M48A5 has only 220mm of armor on the upper glacis (110 mm (4.3 in) at 60°), and 178mm on the turret front. The MT-12 won't have any problems sub 1000m. Do you have any data on the UBM6 and BM8 HVAPDS? I can't find any.

Notice that 300mm is the point blank penetration value. Anyway it shouldn't be a big problem against T-55s even at 2000m or more, save for the occasional ricochet when striking the curved turret armour or the sloped glacis at very unfavourable angles.

Yes I immediately thought about the curve of the T-55 and the other very similarly shaped tanks bouncing a lot of shells haha. It seems like the M48A5 is going to want to stay hidden most of the time. Even though it's absolutely massive.

And consider that the difference is even larger than what can be inferred from the table, since APDS rounds are more prone to ricochet and suffer from greater speed loss compared to APFSDS rounds .

Poor poor M48A5, haha. I will be interested in testing it once it's out. With 300mm of pen on RHA it will still be a good way to crush anything lighter than the more (relative to 1979) modern Soviet Tanks.

  6. It will be interesting to see the M48A5 trying to keep up with the other armored vehicles of the era. It's just barely at the end of its service life but I'm very glad they stuffed it in. I wonder if it can go toe to toe with a T-55A.

But the fire control in the M60A1 and M60A3 is not as modern as the M1's.  The original M1 was built to fire more accurately on the move.  Even later M60A3s were still just stabilized and not really built for fire on the move.

It's interesting how much functionality they were able to stuff into the M60A3 TTS's FCS. Unfortunately it has no concept of it's own movement. What's more quirky about it is that it tracks the last 1.5 seconds of movements (turret rotation) So once you lase a target you have to dump the lead manually every time (unless you want to wait 1.5 seconds before lasing).

In terms of effectiveness in game, there is not that much practical difference between M60A1 RISE, M60A3, M1. All can quickly kill Soviet tanks if used properly and will quickly be killed by any Soviet tank if you make a mistake.

    Including the M1?

Just to add I think you will really like it. Plenty of cool moments already and some of the campaign battles and scenarios are real corkers !

Since you worked on the game, can you provide some insight as the infantry dynamic? When US infantry engage Russian infantry, who usually ends up on top?

Once they get into the Town I'm curious if the US infantry will make up for their low numbers.

I don't think The Capt will fall into a X fire trap so easily...

Judging by what we've seen so far I'd agree. It seems that Capt has been using his BMPs fairly liberally. But then again, he has a lot of them, + his tanks will prove an issue for Bil I believe. As long as Bil can stop Capt from entering the town then the game is definitely seems to be in his favor.
