The making of a fake war hero: An American who reinvented himself as a social-media soldier in Ukraine is accused of 'stolen valor'

It seems this Vascuez character was using the same kind of method as the Chechen TikTok Army and claiming things that wasn't true.

I'm sure that we soon will have something about this on Netflix or Amazon's film and tv-series service.

the engines regularly ad a fifth finger, and other strange things but it is getting really good

You need to use the negative prompt option to mitigate this a bit.

I personally would never try to pass off a AI image as real but AI does have it's place, in illustrating images for articles and blogs etc.

That is exactly what I wrote in the first post of this thread. This AI image generating function called Stable Diffusion can be used for making images to our homemade battle scenarios. But people began to complain and say it would be commiting a fake to do that.

And those comments were made although video games about historical things that happened already are a fake as all they can do is to allow the AI-enemy to follow the code that has been written.

The best online AI-image generation online tool I have tried out so far is Dezgo. There is of course also the Google Colab and other online tools which can be found in This List.

I tried to install Automatic1111 on my computer but it seems I have some problems with PyTorch so I'll try with Invoke AI to see if that works better.

@NPye Did you use an online service to do those images above or have you installed Stable Diffusion and Automatic1111 or Invoke AI on your computer?

  3. I'm reading a book I found in my local library which contains citations from letters home, stories from soldiers and quite a few poems as well. This book is surprisingly good and I'll buy it when I've read this copy from the library.

Among the poems is one written by a man named Charles Pritchard Clayton which I think could have been written by a Ukrainian serving on the front today if any of them writes poems.

    Dedication Before Battle

Legions of better men than I
Have died that freedom I might have
Shall I, because I dare not die,
Condemn my son to be a slave?

My life is forfeit to the past,
No favour will I ask or give.
But, steeled in purpose to the last,
Gladly to die if freedom live.

  4. I was reading a little bit about text based AI-generated pictures and stable diffusion and found a link to a website called Stability-AI/Stable-Diffusion

Here's another one called Stable Diffusion Online

I got a little bit curious and decided to try it out so in the window for the text I wrote "Hitler in underwear waving a hand, Churchill on a chair reading a newspaper".

As I didn't separate Hitler from Churchill in the text I wrote, these two characters got merged which made Hitler a bit fat. And it seems the text "in underwear" was too much for the AI.

The pictures below are the result.

I did a new try and decided to separate Hitler and Churchill. So I wrote "Hitler in German underwear waving a hand, Churchill beside on a chair reading a newspaper, a young lady sit on Churchhill's lap" and the results are below.

It was time for a bit more serious attempt so I wrote "German world war 2 soldier runs on a street, Soviet village, T34 tank in the background" and the results are below.

Try these online text to picture generators out and have fun with your pictures.

If done properly with correct choice of text and a bit more advanced text to picture generators (online or open source to install on our computers) it is maybe possible to make interesting enough pictures for the different scenarios.

  5. This Trait74 aka Battle Tactics is still carrying on with his project of making a Combat Mission similar game in the Unreal 5 Engine.

A new video - Vehicle Combat Implemented - was quite recently uploaded to YouTube.

Could this maybe be someone connected to Battlefront who is making Battlefront's new more up to date game, aka Game Engine 3, by using Unreal Engine 5 instead of developing their own game engine?

If this Trait74 (on Reddit) aka Battle Tactics (on YouTube) isn't connected to Battlefront, he's at least showing them how to do it if they don't have the people to make a game engine 3.

  6. With Prigozhin and Wagner apparently moving to, and maybe creating a new headquarters in, Belarus it will be interesting to see whether some of the money from their work in Africa and other places will fill Lukashenko's pockets instead of Putin's.

It could maybe still be possible that Prigozhin and Wagner are continuing to promote Russia in the areas where they work outside of Russia with protecting oil, gold and diamond projects.

  7. It's interesting to see what Kadyrovs TikTok Army is going to do now. They were apparently sent to the Belgorod area to help against the Russian Freedom Army, or what they call themselves, but refused to do much more than take position behind the Russian soldiers that were there.

Utkin told the Chechen TikTok Army something that they possibly didn't like very much. So are they going to take this opportunity to proof that they are real men and good enough soldiers to fight the Wagners or are they going to remain the most well-known TikTok Army?

  8. Could this be the time for business people to start producing and selling Prigozhin, Utkin and Wagner soldier action figures for kids to play with and collectors to buy and put on their shelf and in their safe?

If the Wagner soldiers move into Moscow and that later on causes a change of the government, it is possibly fair to say that Moscow finally has been conquered by an army which is in conflict with Russia.

Some scenarios I just won't play because they involve babying a gigantic column of vehicles down a single lane road.

If there will ever be a new game engine for Combat Mission or at least a better updated version of the current one, it would help a lot if there was a similar movement order as there is in the Mius-Front game where you choose to move vehicles to a certain point with the order to "follow the road" to that point.

  10. Quote

It is the reason, the very essence of our friendship. It is our honor and our faith. It is our solidarity with all the comrade volunteers of Europe and even from elsewhere who had the same flag, the same emblem, but, above all, the same ideals! We are able, and we are the only ones who can write “Europe” with a capital “E”. Our Europe, not theirs!

I don't know if there has ever been published a number of the amount of European volunteers, or volunteers from other countries, that are fighting for Ukraine but it seems they have been, or still are, quite many. It's also possible that some of those who went home will return when the promised offensive have started for real. Maybe new volunteers will sign up too so they can be a part of this moment.

With all the talking about "If we don't stop Russia now, we will have to fight the Russians when they later on decide to attack other countries in eastern or central Europe" the words quoted above seem to be the mindset that many of those "Defenders of a free Europe" are expressing when they decide to stop Russia's possible expansion into Europe.

From what I have read and watched about this conflict many Ukrainians have the same mindset and say that it's essential to help Ukraine and stop Russia there instead of giving them a victory that might make them feel invinsible.

As mentioned above "the same flag, the same emblem, but, above all, the same ideals" about a Europe with independent countries working together against a despotic state from the east is possibly what's at stake here according to some people in this thread and other know-it-all people.

The Ukraine war happened because Lukashenko was in the process of getting kicked out by his own people...

That sounds like one of those conspiracy theories some individuals make up as a way to find an answer to why certain things has happened.

Are there any hard facts to prove that theory or did someone hear it from someone who had read it on a website?

So I was wondering wether there was a kind of catalogue showing a preview of each terrain feature? This would be a time saviour and a useful reference… Did anybody ever worked on that?

I'm not sure anyone has done anything similar. But it's never too late for you to make one. Many map and scenario makers would be grateful to you.

... and Minsk rose in a mass uprising, Putin would be in one heck of a pickle. And if he just tries too outright invade the place, we should tell the Poles they can join the party. There are about nine optimistic assumptions/lucky breaks in that scenario

Wow! Another large war in Europe possibly involving loads of countries if a few more would get involved. Just like last time. Lovely!

What do you mean by 'good opportunity for Battlefront to be able to sell some of these games being run by their old granny engine?'

Compared to other games the current game engine for the Combat Mission games is just as old as your next door granny. That's at least what it seems like considering all the complaints it gets.

We'll find out what kind of "wonder" Battlefront is making with the update of the engine we were supposed to have in November 2022 but now maybe will have in the Autumn this year.

I'm fairly sure that the coming update won't be enough for most, or many, players.

  15. There is now a sale going on at the Steam website and none of the Combat Mission games are being sold at a discount.

In August 28 to September 4 is the Steam Strategy Fest which could give players the chance to buy the Combat Mission games on Steam a bit cheaper and with at least a 30% discount.

Considering how old the game engine is and all the issues it has, which often have been mentioned in different posts, the Steam Strategy Fest is a good opportunity for Battlefront to be able to sell some of these games being run by their old granny engine.

Not that I'm going to buy and more games on the old game engine but it could be good for Battlefront to show players that it isn't a too greedy company.

What do you other forum members think? Isn't the Steam Strategy Fest a good opportunity for Battlefront to get some new customers so they finally get the thumb out and begin making a more up to date game engine with new WW2 and modern(ish) day games connected to it?
