  1. I don't have any problems with the way night-time is depicted in-game. I wouldn't change anything (save adding illumination shells to the arty options). Night-time can be pretty dark. That being said, no, the darkest part of night is not just before dawn, and yes, filters, blackout/brownout shields (and slits) were used on flashlights (torches) and headlights in WW2.
  2. Digging into making campaigns and I was wondering if anyone could offer a more thorough explanation of the full effects and meanings of those three terms in the campaign script file (Rest, Resupply, and Refit). Obviously the meanings of the terms are self-evident, but their full implications are not. One specific question I'd like answered relates to whether items picked up off wounded troops in the preceding missions remains with the troops that picked them up. For example, if a rifle squad picks up an extra weapon, set of binos, whatever, does it carry over to the next mission-- and which settings might or might not affect that. So the sort of answer I'm looking for might sound something like "weapons and equipment picked up by troops do not carry over to the next mission regardless of setting." Or; When resupply is set to max, picked up items will be over-rided and not carry over." Thanks
  3. After a brief delay owing to technical difficulties, the TFO war machine grinds on. Task Organization: - 1 Btln Direct Support Artillery [3 batteries 155mm SP] - 1 Battery Reinforcing Artillery [155mm SP] - Btln Mortars [120mm] - 2 Companys of Infantry [MECH] There are 5 terrain objectives, each worth 80 points [400 pts total]. The remaining 600 points will be awarded for inflicting casualties on REDFOR.
  4. It's hard to have this discussion because the game has its own abstracted version of the sequence of subsequent corrections. But with that said, IRL the process behind continuing to adjust unobserved rounds is usually to request an up 200 Height of Burst correction, after which time the round should be spotted, and the proper adjustments can be made. EDIT: If HOB can't be adjusted, the Observer would hopefully just send EOM and initiate a new Request for Fire, using refined data. Unless they're a cowboy, in which case there are types of corrections called bold corrections, whereby logic and process are abandoned in favor of the Observer's experience. Such a situation might be, the observer has a pretty good idea that the round fell in that ravine, 400 meters away to the left of the target, so he says right 400.
  5. I have no problem playing the role of attacker (despite the fact that it is a meeting engagement with no extra points for the attacker, and despite the fact that the sheer number of troops you can afford under these circumstances gives you a massive scoring bonus). My issue was spawning the troops I can afford into a killbox.
  6. You only planned on bringing 5 batts? If I weren't so relieved I'd be insulted. So 3 Batts for Blue sound kosher to you?
  7. Alright Kino-- How about this, the number of batteries of howitzers that you brought will be the Russian cap, and the blue cap will be two batteries less than that. You don't have to include your mortar numbers in that, I'm not concerned about your pebble slingers. After which I will legitimately post my OOB for all to see, and we will move on. Won't find a fairer deal on the North American land mass.
  8. Probably won't be done picking my troops till tomorrow evening. I'm still visualizing my strategy right now.
  9. My mission is to win the war! Here's my OOB, now your turn.
  10. I've measured how far you can drive in 1 minute. I know the timing of the initial rounds. I've measured exactly how much arty I need to bring down every building on your half of the map, how I need to place the missions in order to achieve maximum economy of force, and how long it will take to do the job. If I think for a moment that you're ahead of me on the missile gap, and I already do-- I will not hesitate to bring a force designed to flatten the city and everything in it rather than seize a worthless bit of Donetsk in an action that will inevitably cause more casualties than the American people are ready to accept.
  11. "I'm not going bananas with arty." He says. Typical Russian dodging of the issue. You know full well that Americans don't understand the metric system-- I'm not going to sit here converting bananas to inches like some stooge while you smugly sit atop your missile gap. How about we do a trade-- you post your OOB, then I'll think about posting mine.
  12. I know you're thirsty for payback but we're on a 1 km by 1 km map with not exactly massive starting zones and I could be facing 20+ batteries of 152 on this opening barrage so I'm going to be taking my time with this one. I might even just bring 1 unit, an FO, and use the rest of my points for artillery. Haven't decided yet. Still working out the details in my head. You should be thankful for this calm before the storm. Have you worked out your surrender speech yet?
  13. "The 25 mike mike declareth the glory of the Bradley and the TOW missile sheweth his handiwork." A shopping bag floats into view, it dances elegantly across the ground, blown by the wind, moved by the same forces that spreadeth the seeds of the great forests, and the grass of the great savannahs, defiant and ignorant of the curse of declination which condemneth man to circles. A BTR bursts into flames in the foreground, the crew emerges stunned, mildly discontent, cursing the lowest bidders. The driver runs back to the blazing BTR, he's forgotten his cell phone-- he braves fire and destruction to retrieve it. He succeeds, and without hesitation takes a selfie to prove it-- moving with a purpose he updates his instagram-- 12 likes in 3 minutes-- today has been a good day, he mutters to himself. He joins the rest of his crew. They move on, they will subsist on mushrooms and berries from the forest until their column has caught up. They will tweet until help arrives. An FO slips away into the shadows, he seeks a larger target. He will wait. A darkness gathers in the East as Kinoron once again sits atop mount doom, casting his thermal-less gaze upon the landscape, he sees nothing. He will wait.
  14. Okay for the record though I'm not flabby. I was a little bigger for about a year in the mid '00s (200lbs on a 6 foot frame) but I'd eaten too many MREs for such a young age and probably too many trips to MIDRATS. Lot's of Otis Spunkmeyer muffins and ketchup flavored chips (crisps). I don't know, maybe I was comfort eating, calling in artillery on people in their home countries because why not can be pretty mentally taxing unless you're an absolutely mindless empty vessel. I write poetry now instead of eating. Poetry about flowers mostly. Here's one; "Kino's Army is as a garden of flowers, soaring up from their genesis in the dust of earth, reaching always for the stars, powered by the water of the earth the love of the bee and the warmth of the sun, and pounded back into the rotting earth by the dirty naked awesomeness of american firepower, moral superiority, and towering intellectual prowess, yeah git 'er done, get some, suck 155mm HE communists!" Point is I lost the weight-- I like to say I'm twice the man I was then, and half the size.
  15. just going to leave this right here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fptzvyj5d0zsu5j/TFOsSillyHats.brz?dl=0
  16. Alright, so-- loaded up scancade and java on a different computer and we're in business. Not sure what the problem was on my main machine but I suspect it has something to do with the Russians.
  17. Rgr that chief-- EDIT-- I'm so clueless with Java I'm having trouble even finding the language to describe my issues. Going to read on the matter more before I take your time!
  18. Thanks for the help-- I'm still doing something wrong but maybe I'll have a moment of zen at some point and it'll all click.
  19. I've never had any luck getting that program to execute. Every now and then I download Java to try and give Scancade another go but no dice.
  20. Thanks for the interest. That mod uses content (wool caps are converted Italian hats) from Fortress Italy. If I can sort out a version that uses just Beyond Normandy content than I'll post it.
  21. Best upgrade ever for a multitude of reasons. 10 out of 10. Thanks BFC
  22. Not sure what the reasons are for depicted Russian artillery inferiority in terms of accuracy and speed, but it's tough to comment on these issues in general because fire support in-game and fire support in real life are two totally different animals. If the game were to more accurately depict artillery; point missions would look like more 100m radius area missions, and the artillery batteries would need much more ammo. The point target missions in-game more closely resemble the types of effects you'd get from destruction missions, which is when one gun is used to split a 25 meter bracket and repeatedly fires at a single 8 digit grid, subsequently adjusting every third round for max effect. And that's saying nothing of anything else which is everything else.
