American soldier skins in Cols War are named 'american-soldier-skin.bmp' or tagged 'american-soldier-skin [night].bmp. Black Sea American skins should be working, they're named the same.

The Russians are named 'soviet-soldier-skin.bmp'. In CMBS they're named 'russian-soldier-skin.bmp'

Thanks I figured it out. I didn't have my graphics settings all the way up!

This stumped me for a few seconds then I remembered, we're eastern front WWII here. You've got no ground control over your air assets. If you purchased them or if they're included in the scenario then they're autonomous. The'll arrive in their own time, attack whatever they want (when the opponent or you).

Thank you MikeyD! Well that must explain it! That's interesting to me that the Germans would use forward observers to control air movements on the western front but not the eastern. Does this have historical context?

It's mostly just a matter of renaming the skeletons.  From memory because I haven't done it in a while--You rename the m43 hat skeletons with the names of the skeletons for the helmets you want replaced. The game will look for smod_german_helmet (whatever), and will grab the hat conveniently now named smod_german_helmet (whatever). You'll need to rename the hat textures/bmps to whatever the helmet textures/bmps are named.

I think kohlenklau was going to do that helmet/hat swap for his Crete mod and if not, I will later cuz I'm modding it for that mod. Come to think of it, didn't t34(followed by some numbers) already post one he did yesterday?

Hmmm I guess missed his post? Anyway I was able to figure it out after a little renaming! Thanks mjkerner!

Anonymous Jonez, it's the way BFC set up the Volkssturm skeletons/mdr thingies.  They simply didn't--and never have that I can recall--set up units to have multiple headgear (except for the officers). I am going to try an experiment, but without the ability to use the old hex editor method, which always caused me nothing but confusion anyway, I don't know if it is going to work. I doubt it will.

Got it. I just assumed it was a one size fits all situation in regards to the different forces!

    Quick things:

The Sturmtiger did not see action on the Eastern Front.  Initially we thought a small number did, but exactly ONE was used for test firing into Warsaw during the uprising.  IIRC it fired something like 7 rounds before being withdrawn.

German forces wore helmets into combat for obvious and good reasons.  When you look at pictures of Germans wearing M43s you will notice they are not in combat situations.  GJ might be an exception some of the times.  The point is, having M43s mixed in is historically wrong so the option doesn't exist for the military forces.  Volkssturm, on the other hand, used whatever they could get a hold of.

Blast! The m43's are sweeet! Great module though. RT might be my fav now.

M43 cap: tank crewmembers wearing 'winter' uniforms are wearing the M43 caps. This was a VERY late addition and this is my first time looking at them in-game, myself! They went 'round and 'round on M43 caps for infantry and finally settled on infantry on the front lines needing their steel pots.

If the volkssturm have mixed headgear with helmets couldnt the heer/waffen ss?

Oh, I'm going to have to disappoint you there...

I knew this would eventually come up, and I've been thinking about it.

Since 2011 I've made around nine UI versions covering four different titles (BN/FI/RT/FB). Over the last five years or so I've also done the occasional side project for Kohlenklau. And while these are still an absolute joy to do, I decided not to do major updates for any of my UI's anymore.

    Sorry guys.

All good man. You've done so much for the community. Now just relax and play!

    4. Be patient and thoughtful. Treat your digital troops as if they are flesh and blood.

I agree with this in the most part but sometimes to achieve objectives you have to be aggressive. And sometimes pixeltruppen die. I learned this the hard way playing as the Soviets. I'd lose less men, but I'd always come out with only half a victory due to the objectives.

I can agree that the idea of poorly armed militia isn't as interesting to many people, but for me, I don't know honestly. Maybe its the fact that the fighting forces of Germany have been reduced to scraping the bottom of the barrel to drag anyone that could hold a rifle into battle. A very stark contrast to the Panzer-grenadiers that were fighting on the frontline only a year prior.

Also, I really like how the ones modelled in the screenshots have nothing more than suits and hats, it shows how underequipped they were against such a greater equipped and motivated foe. I would be doubly surprised if they even managed to code in some wearing helmets with their business suits.

Holding out as partisans/volksturm is one of the parts I'm most excited about.
