  1. A message came up for China saying the Communists got 100 regiments for an offensive in China in early '40. 100 regiments???? That is about 33 divisions or 11 corps or 3-4 armies. When does Japan get their 100 regiments to offset this lol? Also, historically there were three HQs just in China, yet the game only has two in China. They had the North, Central, and South Chinese Area HQs. So I just wondered if this was an oversight or not.
  2. Ah. Always these little details lol. Thanks for pointing that out. And thanks to Amadeus for the assist
  3. I never attacked the unit that was there. It just left. Which is why I was so shocked. Made things nice for me bad for France No other wars going on execpt France and England. I did notice that Italy attacked England even though France had fallen. I seriously doubt that Italy would have gone to war against England since there was absolutely no gain for Italy at that point. So you may want to change things so that if France has been defeted before, say June '40, Italy will stay netural. Maybe change it that Italy will go to war with England once a German unit is in an English port or something like that to reflect the opportunist nature of Mussolini
  4. Well, I put a unit in the square and was able to completly overrun France without losing a single unit. So your thinking that a German unit there would easily be killed is incorrect. The AI did attack it, and got it down to a 5 but I kept moving additional unite in and was easily abble to expand and expand the hole.
  5. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9s1pqzrbi9e1v1f/AoD.jpg So much for the improved AI lol. The AI moved the unit out of this square so I now not only get the extra resourses, but can now have a pathway into France. In Jan '40 no less. Who needs the Low Countries when this happens I put this up in my dropbox folder, as a jpg but it will not display in the message. What am I doing wrong? Well here is the link where you can get the picture https://www.dropbox.com/s/9s1pqzrbi9e1v1f/AoD.jpg
  6. I really hope this 'readness' bonus get eliminated at some point. Japan doing something like this in the real war was impossible for a whole lot of reasons the games does not account for. If anything, the only bonus you should get is against the country you just went to war with. Why on earth would units in China 100's of miles away attack better just because Thailand was invaded? So when Germany invades Luxumburg German units get a bonus in Africia? Really? I am sorry this is totally idotic. Is this modable in any way as I would love to be able to diable this feature if possible.
  7. Good to hear . Look forward to seeing how this plays out.
  8. I agree. If Japan wants China then they need to allocate the additioanl resources necessary to do so at the cost of the Navy. At the same time though, China should NOT be able to force Japan to add any additional resources either. If Japan gets to a point where they feel they have gotten as far as they want, then there should be very little China can do until '45 to change anything. China should not be able to overrun Japan the way the game seems to be currently working.
  9. Once Japan seized all the coast line, they pretty much stopped offensive operations. So historically Japan was pretty much passive in China. I.E they had taken most of the easy to get places and those that were the most valuable to them. The only reason Japan launched it's '43 offensive was to capture the bases the US was flying from (which they won). So if a Japanese player wants to be passive in China, there should be little to nothing China can do about it. Especially after July, 1940 when the US embargo took place as Japan needed to horde its remaining materials for the Pacific conflict. So from the start of the game up until July, '40, Japan should be able to attack in China at will and win consistantly. Once the embaro hits, China operations should pretty much cease for both sides, China for the reasons already pointed out and Japan for supply issues. To model this in the game, I would suggest the following * Fix China's tech levels for the entire game or make tech so expensive for them that it will take years for them to advance at all. Plus limit them to INF only techs. * China should only be allowed 1 HQ until '45 when the US was able to get better supply lines to China. Then they can have as many HQs as they want. Maybe even give them another HQ for free at the start of '45 too. * Supply costs for Japan should be increased in China once the embargo hits. 50% or even 100% more from that date going forward. This should last for the entire game unless the British/US are knocked out of the game. * As Japan only had four Area Armies (which I think are the closest to what HQs represent in the game) in China, Japan should pay a huge cost (or even prohibit) to send any additional HQs to China Of course as I do not have access to any code , I have no idea if this is doable, and if it would be if it is easy or not. But just some thoughts to try and make China a more realistic theater than what the game currently seems to potray.
  10. The issue is in Chna should not be able advance technology at all. When the US became involved in the war, they wanted to base aircraft in China and start building them up as the thinking was that it would easier than having to cross the Pacific to get to Japan. However the coruption in China was so bad, the US decided against this plan. With the still ongoing civil war, ineffective production capacities, there is no way the Chinese should be able to do what they are doing in the AAR, regardless of play balance or not. The game screws up the historical balance in China. The game uses the historical forces, but gives China abilities that they should not have. The reason Japan has those forces present was because they knew how weak the Chinese were and they did not worry about them vastly improving their warfare capilities which appears to be happening in the AAR. In RL, the Chinese were never able to win a battle againist Japan until late in the war for this very reason. So I hope this gets addressed before the game is released, otherwise, I will no be buying it. Which is a shame since I was really looking forwad to it up until I saw what the Chinese could do in the AAR. Here is some historical facts to consider 'Theoretically, Chiang's army was the largest in the world. In reality, it consisted mostly of ill-equipped, inadequately trained, poorly organized, and ineptly led units. Many soldiers suffered from malnutrition and clothing shortages. Although an administrative system that was primitive at best prevented western observers from making any useful estimates of the precise size and capabilities of the somewhat amorphous mass of troops, clearly it had been unable to halt an enemy advance or fight a modern war since the very beginning of the struggle. Mao's forces, if better motivated, were even less well equipped and, by 1945, were focusing most of their efforts at establishing guerrilla and clandestine political organizations behind the Japanese lines, rather than opposing them directly.' So for the Chinese to be able to do what they are doing in the AAR is no where even close to the historical record. Mater of fact, the FIRST successful Chinese offensive was in May '45. Yet here we are in '42 and challenging Japan and retaking cities? I want historical plausability in a WWII game not science fiction or alternate reality.
  11. I do find it odd that China in most WWII games like this represent China as a single unified country, along with a unified command. This is very far from the reality and this reality did impact operations with all combatents in the theater. I realize this is the easiest path for designers since splitting China up accurately represents aditions units, AI behavior, etc. However, it would be nice if at some point this was done better to reflect the actual situation in China. Otherwsie the game will give the impression that China was a lot stronger than it ever could in the the real war.
  12. From the blog you cannot access, the PZ III by '42 also outclassed the T-34 T-34 vs PzIII The main German tank in the period 1941-43 was the PzIII. It weighed roughly 22 tons and was armed (in that period) with a 50mm gun. The PzIII made up 28% of German tank strength at the start of operation Barbarossa. Roughly 72% of these had the new 50mm gun, the rest the 37mm. These guns could only penetrate the T-34 from the sides at close ranges while the Soviet tank could destroy the PzIII from long distances from all aspects. By summer ’42 it made up 51% of German tank strength. At that time it had received a longer 50mm gun that could destroy the T-34 from 500m frontally (with special ammunition). It also received more basic armor (50mm from 30mm) plus 20mm bolted on parts. The extra armor negated the performance of the F-34 at long ranges. Despite its theoretical inferiority the PzIII was able to fight against the T-34. What it lacked in armor and firepower it made up by having a better internal layout, better reliability and optics, a commander’s cupola and radio in every vehicle.
  13. While the Germans were surprised by the T-34's there were only 1,200 or so in service in june '41 http://www.wwiivehicles.com/ussr/tanks-medium/t-34.asp So not a huge number by any means given the scale of the Russian front. So having a tech level is one thing, but have massive numbers of armor at that level is entirely another. So the Russians should either be very limited on the number of armor upgrades they can do per turn in '41 or earlier or make the cost of upgrading higher for the Russians. The higher cost could be be time limited too. Any invasion in '42 or later would not have these restrictions to help put pressure on the Germans to invade historical or earlier
  14. Temporary boost or not, There is no way England would have attacked Irland in RL during WWII. The political repercussions for all would have been huge. In the ETO, Norway is the ONLY netural the Allies should be allowed to attack. Even that should force all the Nordics to join the Axis. But it would not have as major as an impact on the US as Irland. So I REALLY hope there is some fix (or even removal) of this. In the AAR China attacking Indochina is beyond any real world possibility. If they did thet they should be at war with all the Allies AND Japan. I realize that any game has design decisions and tradeoffs, but allowing players to run amok attacking anyone and everyone without any regard to the political realities of the period, will put this game into a science fiction category versus a historical simulation. Unless I am totally missing something which is completely possible too
  15. You will be playing SC 3 in two years so you will not care lol.
  16. I would definately be on board with paying $10 or less to see the older campaigns revamped to the new format
  17. Great. Then I will wait for that realese as I already have too may games on just the Eastern Front
  18. You understood the question If the expansions will have new campagins, then will one of these be a global campagin that starts in 1939 (or earlier) and cover the entire globe? Or at least the major parts of it like BF did?
  19. So no Global Campaign will be available with the new map, like in the Glod version or like BF?
  20. But will the global map be back fitted to the older scenerios, like the ones in SC Gold, etc. or can it only be used in AoD?
  21. I told them the same thing too a few years ago lol. After all Decision Games did that with War in Europe (which really works well bty. I played it with a freind of mine by email and was much easier to play than the board version which I played as well) and it sold ok. After all we bought two copies lol. With ADG and Matrix behind the computer version of WiF it should sell even better than WiE
  22. Yes to all the above . The forum has many screenshots plus a beta AAR http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2943601&mpage=1&key= that shows how the systems in the game work. Also ADG have approved any RAC if different from RAW
  23. ORIGINAL: Shannon V. OKeets Dated 2/10/2013 post 3192 from the When thread at http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=910849&mpage=107 An AI Opponent and the ability to play by email (PBEM) are both part of my contract, so they will be done. But neither will be part of the initial release. So here is the source from the horse's mouth
  24. Which is why the initial release will be without an AI . However, it is promised that there will be an AI developed and provided as a free patch. I plan on buying it anyway simply because I always wanted to learn the game but do not have the space/time/freinds/etc. to play the physical version
