  1. LEGEND HAS IT..."Some of the (US) Officers were attending a formal mess function across the river at (British) Fort George. When word reached the British Garrison commander there via messenger from York (today known as Toronto) he politely informed his guests that they were at war and gallantly allowed them to return to their side of the river." (DANJANOU)
  2. My guess is they're like trolls at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
  3. Am I the only one to see the irony in this? After 200+ posts it sure seems like this thread has been highjacked. PS - We do not negotiate with terrorists.
  4. ^^ True that, Vet. At this point we are pretty much talking in circles. An ever-widening circle perhaps, but a circle still the same.
  5. As much as the game brings people together, it has the potential to drive them apart. The beauty of this forum is the freedom it allows each of us to speak his/her mind...and it is free. Let us not take that for granted.
  6. This is one new player who wouldn't change a thing. Call me a "fanboi", if you so choose. To my brothers and sisters seeking change. Be careful what you wish for.
  7. Bang on, Aragorn. Some people want apples. Others want oranges. Either way, ya gotta pay.
  8. Another tasty bit from Gary McClellan @ GameSquad: How did the US Garrison at Ft. Niagara find out that war had been declared in 1812?
  9. Here we witness firsthand the danger of taking comments out of context.
  10. I agree, Agusto, So when's the book coming out, JC?
  11. Great responses here, guys. I wonder what would have happened had Napoleon successfully escaped to America. Any thoughts?
  12. Aye, Bruce. If anyone lost the War of 1812 it was the Native North Americans.
  13. Whoa, Nelly...I think you're giving them way too much credit. I doubt they could tell the difference between a horse and a donkey's assassin.
  14. Practice, Alti, practice. We two-fisted drinkers just use our feet. (...or as our American friends say, "practise")
  15. How I love those weird British conventions. And the outcome of the War of 1812 assured us that we in Canada might continue to write proper English.
  16. That's the best camouflaged halftrack I've ever seen. Downright ghostly.
  17. What seemed liked quite a catch back in the day seems less so today.
  18. Kudos to both ASL Vet and The Cat Molester. (Go figure...a Vet and a guy who could use a vet.) The three officers from the War of 1812 who would one day become US President were: Andrew Jackson Zachary Taylor William Henry Harrison
