What in the name of Sweet Fanny Adams does this have to with FB? Nowt!

In the meantime BFC haven't even finished WW2 yet.

It is so sad that so much time and effort has been wasted wandering off down Fantasy Avenue. Ho hum.

We will just have to agree to disagree @Warts 'n' all.  If Battlefront would take advantage of this type of idea (for instance), it is low hanging fruit that would boost sales of FB and create marketing buzz.  The more money Battlefront has coming in, the more they could hire people to do important overhead tasks and simpler programing tasks (not to mention purchase a company AFV).  This would make it easier for them to finish WWII and put out more content (I'm referring to the people, not the tank).

But, the first person they need to hire is a "VP of Marketing".  In my humble 😇, but correct 😁, opinion.

We have been waiting for the long-promised "early WW2" CM2 for some years.  Sadly, at current development rate, early WW2 seems to still be at least 5 years away.  And (assuming BF doesn't make lucrative military contracts their priority) a CM3 is overdue after 13 years of CM2.  CM1 was obsolete and superceded by CM2 after only 7 years.

5 Years!  That's ridiculous (not saying its not true, just ridiculous).  There is so much content already there that modders could expand on if given the ability.  Also so much low hanging fruit Battlefront could capitalize (and I mean capitalize) on.

It wasn't a tournament, it was a continuous campaign of battles that were played out based on the strategic movement of units on the map. Absolutely glorious.

I understand about DLC, but I just don't think they would get involved for that either, based on past comments.

Wow! That does sound awesome,  Really awesome.  In fact, I would be willing to organize and coordinate something like that.  I would need at least an experienced player(s) to help me.  I've been wargaming since the mid 70's but I am only a few months old to the Combat Mission 2 system.

I would need some more information on how it was set up.  I could grab a boxed wargame like PanzerBlitz/PanzerLeader/NATO/Gulf Strike to track the strategic/operational map.  It would really depend on how many players and what era.

Is there a link to the old mega campaign so I could use some lessons learned?

Did each side have a general(s) to make the strategic/operational decisions each turn?

Shock Force 2 might be a good candidate since it just hit Steam.  I would really like to use Black Sea but I also have Fortress Italy and Red Thunder.

I played in several CMMC's (Combat Mission Mega Campaigns) back in the day.  CMBB and CMAK.  Quite a few players and a team of umpires made it the most fun ever.

The limiting factor is having enough people to umpire/gamemaster it all.

Sorry, I meant using the scenario editor to make a campaign that is designed by the community.  That sounds like a tournament.  We need one of those too!!!

Trying to involve BFC will be a non-starter imho, they won't have the time to deal with it in any way.

I can only agree with you on this.  They have their hands full already.  I was trying to think of DLC that battlefront could do that would get the most bang for the buck.

Dream on, you crazy diamonds! First we need Finland and the Continuation War. Then Barbarossa, then French Indochina, then Korean War, then US in Vietnam, and THEN, and only then, can you guys have your wishes fulfilled! Don’t fight me on this...it’ll only get ugly.☠️☠️

I was trying to keep it simple for Battlefront so they could knock out the DLC in a weekend. 😄

Finnish forces would be cool though.  They were pretty tough.  You don't happen to know if one of the CM releases has Gurkhas?  I've heard they were badass also.

  6. Has anyone tried getting together several contributors to create MEGA campaigns for the CM games?  I was thinking that if we pooled our community resources we could come up with a campaign(s) that would be just awesome and well play tested.

What got me thinking about it was this idea of a "Defense of Europe" DLC (see below).  The community could create a Discord channel and/or thread to decide on which CM game **cough**SF2 (since Steam release)**cough**, Historical or Hypothetical, and come up with the theme for the campaign.  I would like to see a Hypothetical Blue on Blue or Red on Red Campaign of some sort, but the sky's the limit.

Anyway, here is the DLC idea that got me thinking about it:

    https://community.battlefront.com/topic/137669-headline-july-4th-1944-hitler-assassinated-third-reich-surrenders-to-the-west-hypothetical/

Even if it was relatively easy for battlefront to merge TO&E and Maps, they would still have a big job creating scenarios and campaigns.  If the community could help with a closed beta release (what we called Experimentals), the community could by instrumental and have a lot of input into creating the first campaign and scenarios.  Battlefront could then release the DLC to the public much quicker and the community would have deeply influenced the release.  Win-Win for everyone.

I used to belong to the Experimental testing group for KSP and I loved every minute of it and like to feel I helped make the game just a little bit better.

    Hi Battlefront and Community o/.

How hard would it bee to add a "Defense of Europe" DLC that would add CMRT TO&E and Maps to CMFB?  I was thinking this would boost sales for CMFB and be relatively easy to do compared to creating a whole new WWIII game.  I would be happy to pay $95.00 $77.00 for both and definitely $35 for just the DLC if I already owned it.

Would anyone else like to see this?  I would even like to try my hand at creating a campaign for it.  Prolly not experienced enough to though.

    79% is for losers - mine CTDs at 25% - that's a hardcore scenario 😉

Lol. You know, my #1 cause (by far) for CTD is when I have no sound device enabled. Sometimes my laptop refuses to switch to my Bluetooth headphones, so I'll disable the speakers from the control panel. If I forget to enable my speakers (or headphones) the next time I play, I get CTD on any CM game I try to load.

May just be my machine, but if an error check for this was included in the code with the next update, it may reduce issues for support.

  9. I have a fairly up-to-date PC with NVME SSDs installed but I am having all my games pause at around 30% saved game load every time.  The pause lasts from 5 to 15 seconds but I was wondering if that was normal and if others had run into it?  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to speed up the process or is this just the point that the CPU starts chugging on the save game data?  After this pause the rest of the game usually loads in a matter of seconds.  BTW, it does it on all my CM titles.

I'm trying to ask questions that new Steam players may run into to avoid any frustrations if it is an easy problem to fix or is it just "one of those things"?

  10. I have some questions about how CM2 is handling my move and face commands when I issue multi-part orders.  I understand that if I MOVE forward and FACE left that the vehicle will do it in that order.  If it has a turret, just the turret will FACE left (I think).  Same if I set a left facing firing arc.

Now if I MOVE my turreted vehicle forward (North), Set a left facing firing ARC (West), then MOVE left (West).  Will my ARC stay pointing left (West) relative to the map or stay relative to the vehicle and end up pointing away from my initial forward direction (South).

I can probably help the folks answering this question by starting their answer with "It depends." 😄  I also know that vehicles sometimes just won't do what you tell them to do even if they are supposed to do it.

  11. I got to thinking what I was expecting my troops to do when I issued the hunt Command. In my mind, they were going to slow down and look for enemy targets. If they came under fire without spotting the enemy, they would crawl along the path until they spotted a target (or died trying) and engage the target. Then get back up and hunt when the supression level let up.

    Just a quick question.

    1) Had you you scored any penetrations on that bunker prior to the turn in the video?

I always check inside of a bunker before moving across it's field of fire, unless it only contains a scout team armed with short range weapons

nope. I tried to coordinate the attack but I really didn't expect the turret to turn it's attention away from the attacking armor. In fact my opponent said he was yelling at the screen for the turret to concentrate on the tanks. It knew better than both of us, but it did pay for it with it's pixelife. It got off one more shot before it went down.

  13. So I've made my move already. What should I have done at this point?

I've sent all but 1 of my Sherman's + the Wolverine in to attack the Panther turret. The other Sherman is suppressing an AAA gun.

I switched all the "hunting" infantry to quick move out of the riverbank into the trees. Then on towards the hedge row and town. I have some artillery and Priests surpressing the defenders.

  14. 1 hour ago, Bulletpoint said:

The problem with the hunt command is that your hunting troops won't stop when taking fire. Only if they take so much fire that they become quite suppressed - or if they actively spot enemy units.

But the rules say they do stop when taking fire.  But it sounds like it may be dependent on training and motivation also?  Is that the case?

  15. A short cautionary tale. After telling my troops to quickly run across the stream I immediately issued a hunt command for them to clear out the small forest before attacking the town.

    • First mistake, the Hunt command will cause your troops to pause for 90 seconds if they are tired. Like from running across a stream.
    • Second mistake, Hunt also tells them to immediately stop if they take fire, whether they can see the source or not. Disastrous in this case.
    • Third mistake, Hunt stopped my tanks at first glimpse of the panther turret. If the smoke got thicker, the tanks didn't take a shot or continue to fire.

I'm not sure why I got 3 penetrations on that panther turret bunker and it was still able to fire so efficiently.

This is only the second time I've posted a video to YouTube.  Not sure if it worked properly.
