  1. LOL when I saw your first post I thought perhaps you would not notice it's not quite sorted. I do think things are better but the bug for what you describe is still open. So, not forgotten but not totally fixed yet. From my testing it looks like the window for a mortar round to slip through (it never seems to totally be inside) is a lot narrower than before but it is not totally fixed.
  2. The read me has a mistake - you can just download the 2.03 patch and everything you need is in there.
  3. I figured with the bocage retreating fix having been delivered this would be a good time to get back to some bocage fighting. The Assault on Point 226 scenario has some bocage but also some open space too so have fun now that you men (and even more importantly the enemy) will not run towards the enemy.
  4. The Bliz is running two scenarios this month. Sign up for the August scenario of the month has started over at theBlitz. This month the scenarios are: CMBN: Assault On Point 226 CMFB: Whats Up With That No 2B The forum post on theBlitz for sign up is here.

  6. I wonder thought - will they come here or will they just use the Steam forum or even the Slytherine forum to comment. It will be interesting.
  7. Even I don't think there's an issue here LOL good one.
  8. I was going to say they should cover it but then I read the patch notes. I see your concern. I recommend logging support ticket to get the official answer and possibly fix the release notes. I did dl the CMBS update and notice that all the brz files are there (210, 211, 212, 213). That means it can patch any version before that just fine. So, I think the release notes are incorrect but do log a ticket just to be sure. A good workaround if you don't mine a big download. LOL What @Wicky said the run away to the ground floor too quickly.
  9. Yeah, it doesn't do well with that. That feature is on the top of my list for after this next release. I sometimes do that too. What I do to keep things sane is create a folder I call "TurnTransfter" and put the latest turns that I am supposed to play in that folder. Then on the other machine I manually copy them to the incoming folders of the appropriate game. Then I can play turns like normal on that machine. When I'm done I do the same thing the other way and then play turns like normal on my other machine. I know that's not very satisfying and doesn't work for people going back and forth between machines. It does work though if you are heading on a trip and want to use your notebook for a few days and then later come back to your main machine.
  10. Thank you that is very kind. Yes, it works with all CM2 games. I purposely built it so you point to your installed game and it makes an attempt to figure out the needed directories but you can override them. That way if BFC changes something you are in control. I have a new version coming with a few new features. I'm bogged down with real life work and some changes that are causing me grief. I will update people when there is news.
  11. The part about how the game calculates the turn does. But I have never heard the requirement that the payer whose machine does the calculation needs to be the one who upgrades. That part makes no sense. The file format of the .ema and .bts files is the file format of the .ema and .bts files. The upgrading is done when when an older .bts file is read by a newer version of the game. The newer version of the game creates the new .ema format and upgrade complete. Thankfully in this patch older install cannot see the .ema files that come from the newer game so it is difficult to make a mistake by accident.
  12. That info is news to me. I have upgraded as the non calculating player countless times. Can you clarify where that comes from? Perhaps I missed the memo.
  13. PBEM is pretty common. When you are ready to go vs a human opponent the FAQ has a link to a post that has several suggestions for finding opponents. My three sources are people that I have met online and IRL and play with regularly, theBlitz.org's scenario of the month (which I help run) and tournaments or campaigns at thefewGoodMen.com
  14. They are cheat proof, yes. For PBEM it is totally stand alone cheat proof. For HotSeat what @Bufo said it technically possible but remember in hot seat play you are their punch your cheating opponent in real life - so to speak. To get what @Bufo suggests to work they would have to save and reload. That leaves saves lying around. And I suppose you could flip out and delete saves. How hard would it really be to become suspicious of that type of behaviour. Personally I would never have someone over to play that I didn't trust way more than just with a game. Out of curiosity how many people play hot seat games on a regular basis. I do for testing but that is all.
  15. Yep, little anecdote: my father was a line infantry officer in the 60s and 70s in the Canadian Armed Forces. Officers were officially supposed to go into battle with an SMG. He would always turn that down for any exercise or deployment. He preferred to carry and assault rifle just like everyone else. His reason was to stand out less. This. I don't like it when that happens either. It sucks. To assert that this is somehow lopsided against the human player needs some serious backing up with lots of evidence. To assert that leaders and gunner are dying at a higher rate overall that they should be also would require a lot of evidence. And I don't mean my self or anyone else cannot be convinced I mean we have people come to these forums and cry that they lost this asset or that asset and its not fair. Hell I do that - but I don't blame a game bug it just feels better to tell other of your troubles . There just is no point in investigating each cry that the game is broken just becasue some one pops in here and says so. For a claim like this, I would not lift a finger until there is thousands and thousands of verifiable data to back it up. Which consisted of not just who died and which side they were on but what they were doing when that happened. The game is designed so that once the battle playback starts all soldiers are controlled by the AI. There is no difference between troops controlled by humans vs the computer because none of them are controlled by humans. They are all controlled by the computer. Bugs are possible, of course, but if someone is going to try to convince the testers or the programmers that the AI has some kind of advantage in who becomes a casualty vs who does not - well that's a huge lift. Huge. The game is literally designed to not do that. Combine that with all of our built in observation bias and the chances that this are a real thing are vanishingly small.
  16. The reason you see so much mention of z folder is because the original installs of the games did not create a Mods folder. The game loads mods by file name last found first. So, in the old world if you are installing a mod and you just placed it in the data folder it might or might not be found first or last. I honestly don't remember the rules about how the .brz files are ordered. At any rate to avoid that we were instructed to create a z folder under the data folder an put out mods there. Now that the installs create a Mods folder the need for a z folder is lessened. But the rules still apply so if you have more than one mod that have an overlap in what files they mod the one you put in a folder further down the alphabet wins for those overlapping files. The other thing to keep in mind is that the mods in the location D:\<user>\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\<Game>\User Data\Mods are shared across all versions. Many of you don't really care but a few of us who play a lot of PBEM games have more than one version of some games installs. Until recently I still had a CMFB 2.01 game going and for a while in the version 3 days I had a 1.11 version game going - the guy I was playing with was strapped for cash. Anyway if you are one of those lucky few who play with more then one version then you can take advantage of the fact that the old folder C:\<Install Path>\<Game>\Data folder still takes mods. There are a few mods (Vin's animated text mod) that are version specific. Also sometimes a model is tweaked to fix something and older texture mods don't work property. In those cases you can install them in a z folder under the Data folder of your install and those version specific mods will work too - but just for that version of the game.
  17. Yep. Couple that with the way our brain has convinced us that it is aware of all things all the time make it very hard for people to accept the reality that humans miss things. As we witness here on these board everyday. The fact that these things happen is a testament to how great this game is.
  18. LOL - I did love the idea of your video. Sadly the point was lost on me since I saw 14 passes by the white shirted players and the guy in the gorilla costume was a shock when he showed up. I probably missed the one pass when the gorilla appeared. The main point is spot on though. This is the type of thing the game is trying to simulate. Our problem is that we have god like view of the battlefield so we see all that everyone can see and get upset if our pixel troop doesn't see things that we see that are so obvious to us. Examples like @StieliAlpha's basket ball passing video and things we experience in real life are what the game is trying to simulate. I am sure we have all experienced trying to direct a friend or family member to see that cool car down the street or the different coloured cow across the field. How many times have you heard yourself say "its right there in front of you" pointing in the direction. Our brains construct the illusion that we see everything all the time, at least in front of us, but we really don't. High stress situations cause us to focus on the things we do see and exclude more of the rest of the world. This is what the game is simulating. It does it quite well actually. In this example the gunner was aiming on one tank. Why on earth would you expect him to have high situational awareness of other stuff going on? In fact humans would not. In fact the tank commander would prefer the gunner focus on the tank he wants him to kill. This is just how humans work. There are limitations in the spotting caused by resource constraints for example LOS through trees or the problem of close range spotting that can cause some odd situations because of the spotting time cycle. But stuff like this example is not one of them.
  19. Everyone finds new things about the game. I noticed you like to crop close (which is good really). Getting rid of the message give you more room to position things on screen.
  20. Quick note on your last screen shots. If you press <shift><ESC> the game will pause without the "PAUSED ...." text. You only have to do that once per playback. After that the play pause button will not display the notice. Much nicer for screen shots.
