  1. Thanks Bill. Good post. Only part I didn't understand was 'or you can use a naval unit to set a trap.' Wouldn't a recon mission reveal such a naval unit? Not sure what you mean.
  2. thanks for taking time to reply on this and on recon. I hope others will comment as well
  3. I have only played non Gold so far and I'm curious about those who have played Gold's opinions about the air recon missions in Gold. Are they potentially too powerful... or maybe remove a bit of fun? What I've always enjoyed in SC was the wonderful amount of surprise players could spring on each other. But now, for example, wouldn't recon missions make the Italians pretty safe from surprise when sending troops to africa? They just scout first with bombers? So I've no doubt recon is powerful, but is it maybe too powerful or reducing a wonderful aspect of SC? Probably missing something since I've not played Gold, but that's why I'm asking :-) Thanks!
  4. I've been playing non-gold and am curious about the impact of the new research rules on the importance of intel research. It strikes me that since research is going to produce a result the import of intel research is much diminished since it only delays the inevitable now as opposed to potentially stopping an advance for a very very long time. Is this fair to think? Is Intel Research less valuable? Thanks for insights from those who have played gold.
  5. Im very interested! May i be allies? 1 turn every 1 to 2 days. Pm pls
  6. First thanks for reply. Second, if I understand correctly, AA on resources only applies to Strategic Bombers. Actual AA units should affect all air units. Any opionon about the odd land defending? Thanks, Luke
  7. My opponent is finding that an AA unit I have built -- as well as I think my AA in resources like cities -- is effecting tactical bombers not just strategic bombers. Older SCs my memory is that AA units effected all air. But the current non gold manual does seem to say should only effect bombers. Please clarify whether in non gold (or gold for that matter) GC AA units and AA values in resources, should be effecting non strategic bomber units ? If they should not be, my opponent says they seem to be. THis with version 1.07 Secondly, his experience is that my AA unit -- located in a city -- is very very hard to damage with his tanks or infantry. Yet it is listed as only having ground defense of 0. I see him taking lots of damaging trying to eliminate with multiple units as well. At this point is not much entrenched nor much experience. Could there be a bug here? THanks for clarificaiton about AA units (and AA resource values) in GC.
  8. That is wise about game folder. Thanks. Will do in future.
  9. Thanks for replying SeaMonkey. When I go and test it seems you are right and yet I could swear multiple times I have instant quits without confirmation. Is there a setting anywhere? I have several machines and I am wondering if I have setting wrong somewhere. I revisited Settings, Options, Advanced Options but cannot seem to spot a setting. Sorry to be dim and waste your time like this. I enjoy your posts and feel bad wasting your time but I am trying not to be unfair to my opponent. THanks, Luke
  10. My memory is that in earlier SCs there was a setting that ensured a "confirm" when you hit the quit button. I can't find it anymore. With depressing regularity I hit the "quit" button when I mean the "end turn" button (since they look very very similar) and then my whole turn is wasted. This is espeically unfortunately in a multiplayer game because it is unfair to my opponent for me to get to redo the turn. Is there such a setting and I am missing it? This is SC Global non gold. Thanks, Luke
  11. Ha! One last detail question. If I move the air unit will the u.s. infantry unit that appears garrison Honolulu rather than sit in middle of island? It is not easy for me to test this without playing all the way through to Pearl Harbor :-) Just trying to think of any tweaks I can do to help Hawaii next time.
  12. Thanks guy. Just experienced my first pearl harbor and was relieved to see my forces appear. Unfortunately I was not relieved to see Hawaii conquered by my Japanese opponent there is no way for me to prevent that is there? he used 3 Special Forces and the core fleet.
  13. Are marines Special Forces? sF can amphibious even from non ports
  14. The pacific ones might be the indicators of the u.s. exclusion zone
  15. As a GC newbie (non gold currently).. esp to pacific I'm "at sea" with regard to U.S. islands in the pacific. Can I reinforce these islands by builds or operate? Should I? I'm assuming I can't transport to them because of the U.S. exclusion zone. Seems odds to not be able to transport to them though. Also odd that no american fleet starts at Pearl to be attacked! Am I missing something? Thanks, Luke
  16. Thanks for replying. So as a player rather then someone editing the scripts there is no way to do this in Global 1939 scenario (whether gold or not). Correct?
  17. I'm somewhat in the same boat in that I am new to SC Global (but not SC2). My advise is to read the current beta tester AAR and also dig up earlier AARs from early on in the forum (you will have to change the bottom of the forum page to allow you to see all posts). This will provide you with examples of play. China is very challenging to beat as the Japanese in Gold. You might want to start with non gold to get a feel for that first. I personally feel 'at sea' (har har) about making the full early japanese attacks eventually in the pacific. But will follow my own advise above and study AARs. You will enjoy the game I'm pretty confident :-)
  18. Is it possible to give production points from one nation to another? In particualr to the chinese, in non gold (or gold for that matter)? I feel like I might have seen it somewhere but can't find it in the manual. please advise
  19. I was reasonably experienced once at the Patton game. I am learning gold now. I figure a good way to learn fast is versus a human. I would prefer to play allies so I can learn better without quite so many mistakes. I could play a good European UK and USSR once upon a time but now am rusty.. do not know gold very well and of course am a noob at the pacific. Having said that I learn fast and you can have fun trying out your strategies on a living breathing "dummy" :-) Thanks, Luke p.s. just to be fair to you, I've never played a any of the globals before this.
