  1. Good info thanks. Not to mention one would get a little scuffed up bocage diving.
  2. uh I did that. My search yielded alot of opinions on the mechanics of destroying bocages, and what vehicles are capable of smashing through them but nothing game specific.
  3. Will hedge groves be natural barriers to tanks or just infantry. Will taking position from within a hedge as cover be done. Are there diffeent types of hedges ie some are passable some are impassable. So many games have implemented this differently. Just curious on the hedge modeling for los, movement and camoflague/cover.
  4. He didn't say that because you can't compare modern dismounting drills to what they did in WW2. Some Nations do dismount troops very close to the enemy, others don't.
  5. True enough. Russian front. German's did this in the desert campaigns too, saw many photos. We all know the famous photo of the paratroopers riding on tigers in the bulge. But Normandy not really done to any significant scale known. Actually many cases of panzers operating without any nearby infantry. Suicidal.
  6. Sorry but I gotta say some things are not infantry friendly in Caen. What's with grandma's picket fences? These really have to be coded to allow infantry passage. Buildings....what happened here. In africa I could fire and throw grenades out the doors and windows. But Caen I have yet to see a trooper do any thing from a house except get shot. Houses should have had wider LOS, bigger windows, justify it as firing positions carved out. And scavenging the panzer shrek. Nobody wants to pick it up. And it doesn't drag and drop into the weapon slot very easy, sometimes not at all. . . .
  7. It was more of a necessity for the Germans compared to U.S. The germans didn't seem intimidated by sound mis-recognition, and to say so is modern thinking bunk. The M1 carbine was given a a german designation and re-issued to soldiers on the west front late 44. The german's were also happy recycling french and czeck guns. If the ammo was around, it was used. Saw reports of british paratroopers scavaging zeltbahn rain gear because it worked better than theirs. And believe it or not brits liked MP 40's over their stens. (who would want an mp 40) I supppose this behaviour is relegated more so to special hard core units rather than regular conscripts due to training and familiarity with enemy weapons.
  8. You make it sound like computing power is not at a level to acheive this:rolleyes:. It is and has been already your comment is funny in that respect.. Sorry I'm not being confrontational its just I have seen some nicely simulated light declinations in 3D tactical wargames. Don't get me wrong , I can't wait to pick this gem up. This little nag is not that big of a deal.
  9. Are there any plans to include falschirmjager and SS formations. Perhaps in the German campaign. Both high profile in Normandy from June to August.
  10. OK that's fine then. In "gamelife" there should always be some contour recognition no matter time of day or weather. We'll see.
  11. So you are saying the pictures posted are not actually a true reflection of the finshed product in the release?
  12. The one negative aspect of the combat mission series has been the lack of ray tracing on the ground maps emphasizing slopes and dead ground by the angle of the sun and its shadows. The only negative thing about CMAK was the lack of point of view POV ray tracing. The pictures for this game don't show off the map ray tracing very well. Please tell me the terrain contour is there and you chose High noon maps for the pictures.
  13. The reed green heer uniform was worn on the Russian front and discontinued for logistical reasons in 1942. Are you perhaps referring to this?
  14. the i5 650 is a dual core I think, not a quad. I am not sure if the Tow2 series is optimized for quad core. If so, then anything higher than a i5 650 or higher such as i5 7xx or i7xxx would benefit you more. the i5 has been out a few years and has come down in price. so if dual vs quad doesn't matter for tow then its probably OK. Radeon 5770 is a solid card, designed to be the most bang for the buck. Be my first choice where performance and price are your concerns.
  15. Get my nader within range of a T34 and its dead. A frontal attack at 40-50 yards took one out. A rear attack at 50-60 yards flamed a T34-85 in 1 shot. Only thing it takes some coaxing to get the guy to keep it loaded, and there is a long delay to get him sighted to finally shoot.
  16. In keeping with Afrika during WWII I would recommend a novel called EASTER DAY 1941 by GF Borden. Its fiction but very factual and goes into great detail about the weapons and armored vehicles of the day. This was a well-written, exciting novel about action in the Libyan desert during the initial attack by Rommel in March-April 1941. The plot centers arounds the attempt by a mixed British American crew in an Italian tank attempting to return to their own lines. What lifts the book above the run-of-the-mill WWII novel is the tight focus on the actions of the tank crew and the frequent encounters that propel the story line.
  17. Are you using win 7 or XP? I recently got a new pc with win 7 and I can't seem to mod damn thing anymore even as administrater.
  18. I'm gonna bump this again. Whatever fileslist.txt you are using for kursk please post. If you are using the fileslist bundled with the extractor in the tow1 forum then let me know it works for you. Having problems getting sfs extractor to work. ive used it before. thanks
  19. @tatari, Oops can't use the mortar ani then cause it would look funny when they fired it, thought the movement and firing were separate. @vinnart the jsh mod in tow1 allowed for infantry to ride tanks. It wasn't bad. As far as time goes for incorporating features in games what's the rush I say;) Some games take years to produce. Although that's bad business and cheques have to be cut
  20. maybe someone could use the mortar animation for the HMG42. This would look normal. I know it was done in the past with the wheeled 12.7mm but looked silly dragging a tripod mg42. But carrying the mortar is similar to carrying an HMG. I don't like the HMG being static still in this 3rd game. I think that got missed in all the improvements.
  21. can someone post kursk fileslist.txt file please maybe on the repo. i think the one with the extractor is wrong, it has units not in kursk. Also does the extractor work with the battlefront version or is it only for the generic version. Thanks
  22. OK I get it now. thanks! I'm testing a campaign now to see if the battle group is finite from the first battle so I can track attrition
  23. I think its great one can create a whole campaign. And then go in the editor and customize scripting even further. Even add custom maps and so on. I just successfully finished the first battle of a user campaign but the next battle remained pad locked. Any ideas?
  24. I had a tiger tank that survived a couple battles. I noticed it was the same commander by name with the war merit badges I awarded showing up for consecutive battles. So I would say yes. Its hard to track as attrition is so high. Not one soldier lived through more than 2 or 3 battles. Also some of the scripted OOB leave out certain units and I am not sure if those show up in later battles
  25. the 64 bit extractor has a fileslist bundled with it. Who's file list is it. Tow2? I suspect if you have extracted the sfsextractor.zip into the kursk editor folder you may have overwritten the kursk fileslist.txt file. Maybe someone could post the kursk files list in the repo please.
