  1. Jesus release the damn demo already! Save us from the crazed posters! It's a public service at this point.

As soon as the demo gets released we can get released from this crazy closed loop of clicking on the homepage every few hors and visiting the forums 35 times a day and whining and complaining and chattering like little old ladies. Play the demo until our fingers bleed until the magic email arrives and the world's good place. Not that I don't like you all, but man, just give me the damn demo already. :D

  2. I was happy with the 21" flat-screen monitor that shipped with my old Dell, other than it seemed to retain/bleed old terrain images over time.

I am considering going bigger (if such a unit exists for the desk-top), but want to avoid any image retention on the screen.

Can anyone weigh in with what they are happy with, or perhaps... what I should avoid...?

    Thanks again,

    Ken

I use various 23-27" Dell monitors, Samsung, and Philips around the office and I'm pretty happy with all of them. If I had to choose only one, I'd probably pick the nice Samsung I have attached to my laptop at work.

  3. I think bagpipes are worth of a patch of their own, if not included in CW. I'm no Scot, but I love them.

Ugh. They keep piping all of my relatives out at the cemetery ... uncle, grandpa, shudder. Eventually the uncle who plays will kick off and that'll end that tradition. I guess it's replaced having to hire professional mourners who wailed at Roman funerals ... sound's about the same, however.

  4. FWIW, I prefer small, highly detailed and ultra-realistic maps (600m-1km) with a company or less and a mission length of 30 minutes to an hour.

This. Most company sized actions from my readings took place in a lot tighter space than the OP seems to think. 400m and under in many cases, so even a 400m-700m square map should present lots of tactical challenge for those us who will be creating smaller scale, historical actions. That's what I'll be attempting to bring my cartography skills to, anyway.

Just to remind everyone how 4x4 km looks like:D

Crickey. To even make a well designed map of that scale would take far too long for me to even think about.

  5. Awesomeness! It think that's why my son went into the Army after me. You never know they might one day, god forbid they have to use that knowledge you parted with them. Especially the day Terminator 6 comes out?

If they did, and they have inherited even a small part of my late-father-in-law's courage (8th British, 2nd Polish Corps, 5th Kresowa Infantry Division ... awarded the Polish Cross of Valour for an act of outstanding bravery on the field of battle in late 1944 Italy), they might manage OK. I hope they never have to prove themselves though, except with a second copy of CMBN in the house against dad.

  6. That is wonderfully funny! My wife will be glad to know I'm not the only nutcase in the world...:) Every time we go on a drive in the country and I'm in the passenger seat, I'll be looking at the beautiful scenery...my wife will ask with a smirk..."You looking for a reverse slope or hull down position again?" She knows me only too well.:D

Ha, ha. I do the same with wife my wife and kids in the car. I keep asking my kids, "So, if you had a platoon of infantry in those woods and a heavy machine gun for support, how would you get you guys over that open field and take that farmhouse."

My wife just rolls her eyes.

Yet my kids always respond with something like ... "Well, fire-fix-flank-finish, dad. Pin them down, and then maybe move two squads along the fence and hedges in the back there and assault the farmhouse. Are there any mortars for support?"

I can't tell you how proud that makes me feel. :D

  7. For me? Until the Commonwealth forces come out in the expansion I'll be creating semi-historical, small scale battles. A lot of infantry stuff, with the occasional foray into tiny drabs of armour support. Tactics tactics tactics will win the scenarios. After the Commonwealth expansion hits it'll be Canadian skirmishes and battles from Juno onwards, starting with Putot-en-bessin and through to Operation Totalize etc. In both cases using historic maps and photos to generally get most stuff right (again, with some minor changes to maybe makes stuff a bit more fun), as well as unit accounts.

  8. Sweet lord above :) Frost will link up with Urqhuart and 30 Corps will cross Arnhem bridge OMG will be a success. Although we will be 67 years too late.

As long as XXX Corps doesn't run into 88s by the side of the road blowing their leads tanks to kingdom come. That would simply turn it into a re-run.

  9. I for one would have sacrificed some of the technical functionality in order to improve multi-player matchup mechanism.

In the meantime, I'll be looking around 'old school' style to get some matches in CMBB/CMAK and soon . . . CMBN.

I've already got some links (such as the Scenario Depot), and have made a couple of postings.

PS, I'm open for a match in CMBB/CMAK (latest version which I just bought from BF). That would be:

    • PBEM
    • Optionally live 7PM+ Vancouver time
    • I'm a conscript
    • Small battles
    • Any side

When I get CMBN I'd be up for that sort of game. It'd be 10PM my time but I often have 60-90 minutes then while my wife watches some inane show and complains that I play inane games.

  10. Page 125 ... fourth paragraph ... second sentence ...

"There are four ways to change the elevation of a tile tile — ..."

    "Tile" is duplicated.

Page 129 ... second to last paragraph ...

"To "purchase" a unit doubleclick on it or, alternatively, single-click to highlight ..."

Inconsistent use of "doubleclick" and "single-click" Suggest using "double-click" with a hyphen for consistency. (I've found the words "doubleclick" and "single-click" now in a number of places. One or the other need to change to match the other, I'd prefer the hyphenated version, speaking for myself, so a FIND ALL is needed during the next round of editing.)

    Page 52 ... last word ...

"Autmatic" misspelled ... should be "Automatic"

Page 53 ... third last paragraph ... second sentence

".Here, we will describe the basic functions ..." Needs to have space in front of the sentence between the period and the capital "H".

Page 54 ... Equipment Quality Dropdown menu section ... last sentence

"To finetune the selection after your purchase, read the next section "Toolbar"" ... "Finetune" needs to be two words "fine tune", the sentence is lacking a period, and the next section isn't "Toolbar" so perhaps the sentence should end "... read the upcoming section "Selected Formation/Unit Toolbar"."

Available Troops Selection section ... third line ...

"inlcuding" is misspelled ...should be "including"

Activate Troops section ... second sentence ...

As above, perhaps "finetune" should be fine tune"
