Just a heads up guys that Final Blitzkrieg last week entered into what we call "Final Candidate". That means that the game is done and almost ready: we're just making installers, doing final checks and making sure that the game won't cause your monitor to violently explode (I let the testers check for that one in particular).

Lets see... Sturmmoser Tiger, Hetzers including Flame variety, Jagdtiger, M4A3E8 "Easy Eight",  M4A3E2 "Sherman Jumbo" assault tanks, M36 GMC and M18 GMC (tank destroyers) .. to name a few new vehicles  ... I got a spare monitor ready for the Final Blitzkrieg release  :D

    Ready....

@ChudacabraHow hard the missions are does depend on how ell you do on the previous. There are several branches. I'm not sure which one you ended up on but if you had tanks then you are on the alternate branch. And yes that one is hard as the Soviets have warning your coming so have bolstered their defence.

Re infantry - you have what you have I'm afraid. That's the point behind the campaign is you command a single company of SPW equipped panzergrenadiers. You need to look after your men.

My top tip FWIW: you don't want to lost panzergrenadiers needlessly in this. The campaign models 72 hours of near continuous combat - there are no infantry or armour replacements and depending on who well, or how badly or what decisions you make you might also start to run low on ammo. In such a short time frame that sort of thing just did not happen. I think this campaign is very unforgiving of losses, so might not be everyone's cup of tea. You can blow this in one poor mission where you lose lot's of grenadiers...

In RL German SPW units suffered very heavy casualties very quickly - on account of the type of missions they were usually given. This is one such unit. Further down the line you get some support from your sister kampfgruppe so you can get them to do some of the heavy lifting, for a change!

I think the third battle could be a decisive one for you. Good luck! :)

CMRT Campaign - Kampfgruppe "von Schroif" is sounding very interesting George. Thanks you for the research and retail of what sounds like another stunner.

  3. I am sympathetic to the desire for better performance in-game with higher-end computers. But...I also see the NEED for adequate performance for low-end machines. To me, the oddity is comparing the performance delta with the computer delta. Double the computer does NOT get double the game performance.

    But, does it matter?

    I say, "No".

I've found my gameplay to be far smoother when I cap framerate to 1/2 my screen refresh. This is NOT a first person shooter or a "twitch" game. Steady fps is more important to me than hitting the highest numbers. (And, while I don't consider myself a hard-core gamer, my wife and my gaming library may disagree. I've built over a dozen rigs for myself, used to use all sorts of 3rd party tweaking/overclocking/hardware mods/etc/etc. I keep 3 running game rigs at home (2 sons: what kind of father would I be otherwise?). About to upgrade my 1090T to an i7-6700k. That'll be nice. I guess admitting it is the first step? Crap. Maybe she's on to something?)

A lot of gaming "feel" is subjective. The only way to compare games from one user to another is frequently done by using a qualitative measurement. That has been framerate, historically. That may not be appropriate to some games...like this one.

I've found that using a high-end computer allows BIG maps. It allows FAST load times. It allows FAST turn times (blue bar).

For example, the computer I mentioned above, running an AMD Phenom X6 1090T cpu (I've got it at 3.5GHz...I think. Shrug.) with 8GB of ram and an R9 390 (8GB) gpu (note the gpu is way "oversized" for the cpu/ram/mobo...because the cpu/ram/mobo are about to be replaced...) with an SSD for the OS and game: It is excruciating how long it takes to load a specific pbem series I'm in the midst of. I open the turn, the orange loading bar begins, and I walk away for another cup of whatever the time of day dictates I should imbibe. I can usually come back about the time the turn is ready. Or I beat it. (Computer is upstairs from kitchen. I frequently get my own drink so my intern can continue researching whatever it is that I've assigned.)

Another machine, i7-4790K (stock, 4.5GHz?), 32GB ram, GTX970, can load that same turn almost faster than I can say, "Intern! Fetch me my drink!" The framerates on both are VERY similar. (One may hold steady at 28-30, the other may run 24-28. Or so.)

The loading times (orange bar) and turn computation times (blue bar) are totally different. If one takes 5 seconds and the other takes 1 1/2 minutes, does that mean it's only 1:25 faster or 18 times faster? Improving "performance" by 1,700% is significant, isn't it? If I just compared min/max framerates, the two machines would seem to have performance numbers which are far closer than the loading times.

I would not try to measure CM by framerate.

Having said all that...I would be ecstatic if BFC found a way to run CM in such a manner that it could use all the cpu cores available. Yes, performance seems like it could be improved, but it depends on what you think "performance" means.

Expressed very well c3k. Only question I have.... how fast does "Intern! Fetch me my drink!" take? :)

  4. Man, how cool it would be if aircraft, particularly attack helicopters, could be seen when doing gun and rocket runs. Jets dropping conventional 'dumb' bombs have to overfly target areas as well.

?✈️ Would be very, very much fun :D

    And Warthogs doing gun runs!!!

The A-10 Warthog is such a Bad*** Aggressive  Aircraft... you just have to love it. Only seen them at air shows but worth the price of admission every time?

  5. Just curious before getting a UHD screen, has anyone played the game on one? Is the engine reasonably up to producing that kind of resolution without too much of a frame rate drop?

I have NOT played CM on an UltraHD or 4K monitor.

I would 'think' if you have enough GPU power and the "Ultra HD screen" has the appropriate interface connections CMXX "should" work at your new "desktop' resolution. 3840 x 2160 is Ultra HD and 4096 x 2560 is 4k. You can custom specify a resolution with the 'display size.txt' file found in the CMXX main directory. 3840 x 2160 resolution at 60Hz you would replace the zeroes = 3840 2160 60 . Much of the hardware on the market is awaiting the DisplayPort 1.3 interface that will support 5K resolution... a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels!

I am very happy with my current DELL U2713HM Display -27-inch (2560 x 1440) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 4096 MB graphics. I do enjoy the much wider field of view in 2560 x 1440. Happy I made the move up from 1920 x 1080.

    I lust for 4K Combat Mission ✌️

  6. Too bad, we can´t make any grid/mesh mods for any other textues beside grass, due to some odd texture shifting that prevents overlayed grids to line up nicely with each other. But the grass types do the purpose well for some map editing and measuring. At last you can figure out exact center and pivot points for various flavor objects, which speeds up placement considerably. Following individual pixeltroopers along the mesh also reveals some the games pathing methods which can be at times quite useful.

    Thanks again RockinHarry.

Your gridded grass texture mesh overlay with mod tag is useful in map estimations ?

  7. Probably not what you´re looking for, but for experimental purposes I made a gridded grass texture that accurately shows the underlying terrain mesh at 1m resolution, which is used to sculpt the terrain, navigate and place single soldiers/vehicles and supports accurate and reliable placement of flavor objects. This gridded grass mod is best used during scenario/map making, or for finding possible path finding and deployment problems on a map. This basically is a sort of "wireframe terrain mesh" overlay on a grass terrain texture.

Nicely done RockinHarry ? Would be a nice scenario/map making tool.

  8. In a way we are getting all that just not at once, but the end result will be that and even more. As of now CMBN is the yard stick from which we can measure— think of the Bulge title as the second half of the equation. When CMFB is finished we'll have the entire CMBO experience (CMBN+ FB) with way more than BO offered at a much finer fidelity and Battlefront will be fairly compensated for their work. In my opinion it's a win-win for all involved.

To give you a very basic idea let's take a look at vehicle content. CMBO had a total of 125 vehicles/armor covering the June 44 to May 45 period. In comparison CMBN has 185 vehicles/armor for June to September of 44. Just think what that will be by the time the Bulge wraps up. And that isn't including all the hundreds of other details/features that make up the nations, equipment, TO&Es and regions that we'll have when it's all said and done. So, though it's not all under one roof, it's by far larger and finer detailed than what we had in a single CMX1 title (in this case, CMBO). And seeing that all the titles for CMX2 will share the same engine version, it's basically one title just with separate exes.

    ^^^ ? Solid Summary Mord.

  9. Great idea and good looking transformation Juju! :)

With regard to tags, Juju could actually leave them out if someone wants the mod as complete replacement for the games stock files. Optionally he could add some descriptive text about mod tagging for those who just need it for a particular scenario. If the files are pre-tagged, any user needs to import a simple mod text file in order for the mod to load and beeing used. So at last there´s more than one useful option. Also dependent on what ground tiles are replaced, one needs to bear in mind that i.e the highway tiles are already pre tagged with [holland] and thus are preconfigured to be loaded with MG module only. Just some thoughts. Anyway, looking forward to your mod release!

Thanks for the clarification. Looking forward to Juju's 'kerbs' as they are definitely cool looking in the city at level 1 fights.

  10. Awhile ago I had located some solid info on T32 and sent it to Chris but I've forgotten most of the details now. I believe it was originally designed as a jungle gun circa 1942 and served in some numbers in the Pacific. 10th Mtn Div also got a batch as a mule(s)-transportable mountain gun. The gun could handle US 37mm AT gun HE and canister ammo. There was a lightened version named the T33 in development at war's end which got cancelled. What else can I find...

Very cool photo MikeyD ? Lends new meaning to "Packing Heat":D (Photo Logo - National WWII Museum is very well done for those who have not been there)

This new Fortress Italy module is going to be a treasure of pleasure of such a wide range of forces and equipment.
