  1. Great link John, thanks a lot. I have just recently finished reading 'The Polar Bears' book (49th Inf Div) and it was a fantastic, fascinating, but also harrowing read. I thoroughly recommend it as a great book covering a British infantry divisions combat through Normandy against crack ss troops, and then Holland in 1944. It is amazingly detailed with hundreds of first hand accounts from the men in the action at the sharp end. I wish one of the clever campaign designers off here would recreate all the actions mentioned in these accounts ala the 15th Scottish campaign. Though i wonder how demoralising it would be see your companies systematically chewed up and decimated. One action alone mentions two platoons wiped out in hand to hand combat!, proving just how ferocious the fighting was. The book certainly sets the scene and mood for CW module action in CMBN.
  2. Im reading Beevors 'D-Day' book at the moment, and i think this campaign has reflected the pain and frustration suffered by both sides quite accurately! Its an excellent challenging series of missions. What other campaigns or missions have you written PT? I'd certainly like to try them next.
  3. good question, as i havent seen my mortar teams use their WP rounds in any of the Scottish corridor fights yet. They expend the HE and smoke rounds but not seen the WP deplete, even when left on 'target' over a few turns.
  4. i think the scottish corridor campaign is excellent. I dont think ive ever enjoyed playing a war sim against the ai as much as i have in this (despite years of pbem fights), its been a superb challenge in every battle at 'Elite' level. Cant remember the title of the battle (though sounds like the one mentioned)i am about to fight but it must be very near the end of the campaign and the 9th SS are about to launch hell at me at Grainville (once again), after acheiving two british victories in the preceeding fights. I have quite a large force to defend with, including 2co inf, armour and several 17 & 6pdr guns, so the german force must be huge! I note my arty comes in a lot later this time so it will be very tense for a while...gulp.
  5. I am fighting out the Scottish Corridor campaign and i noticed that any area targetting on hedges/undergrowth etc, my Churchills used up their full complement of HEAT rounds before moving on to the H.E. rounds  Is this a bug?
  6. great looking mod, thanks for sharing Aris. I was not liking the in-game squeaky clean variants
  7. wow, stunning maps, nice work undercover ! I look forward to the release of this :-)
  8. wow, that looks amazing! did you see the video? http://ironfront.deepsilver.com/en/
  9. Mail & download too Cant wait to get my tommies into action..after their tea that is ;-)
  10. i thought 88's were able to be fired still limbered? Not ideal, but still useful if necessary! I have seen footage in the desert of them doing that. I am sure i also read (from a book, not internet!) that an 88 with an experienced crew could unlimber and set into a firing position within minutes, not half an hour.
  11. you can see this great movie here:- http://www.archive.org/details/TheirsIsTheGlory1946
  12. I just bought AP:Op Star as i was missing my Ost front fix and got to say that what i have seen and enjoyed out of it so far is excellent. The attention to detail is staggering. I have only fought two smallish (several platoons) of mixed armour and infantry engagements so far, so too early to tell how it performs at higher force levels but so far the AI have fought well enough and i have been left jaw dropped by the graphics and realistic battle scenes. I hit a T34 that caught fire, rumbled on for a few more metres whilst the hatches popped open and a crewman on fire tumbled out onto the snow ! All this while flares are fired into the air, real looking tracers zip across the snow covered land, trees are knocked over as AFv's hit them, buildings catch fire then collapse, crewmen sit perched in (correct) hatch openings on the move etc. The landscape looks very real, based as it is on satellite topography and ww2 maps of the region. CMBN, good as it is, should take a good look at some of the features in AP:OS. If you like the eastern front, its a dream come true!
  13. glad to see people are still working on wonderful mods and campaigns for this sim. With the close of cmmods i thoughti had missed out on all the fun. Still a real lack of downloads available from anywhere though :-(
  14. Has anyone got a link to this Brit Bulldogs campaign? It sounds great. I found the Tiff mod..just need this campaign to go with it !
  15. wow very nice work, the maps looked scanned in from real topography
  16. excuse my ignorance, but is the battle for moscow campaign the one that came with the uber patch for ToW ? Is it only playable from the Russian side?
  17. Thanks Arzok, looks good. Will give it a try and report back. Any others about? Are any available from older archives/torrents or can someone email me any campaigns they have?
  18. Hi All, i have belated finally got fully into this great game about 2 years after buying it ! For some reason at the time i could never get into it and carried on with my CM series pbems. Where can i find any add on campaigns and missions etc ? I am fighting my way through the included set but would enjoy some custom made onslaughts. Are there unit mods etc? I have the JSH? mod pack installed now after some detective work on google, but i have seen posts on here for other campaigns etc but have so far been frustrated in my attempts to locate any. Most of the links in the posts here are dead. British bulldog is one that is mentioned, are there any good eastern front campaigns about? thanks in advance.
