  1. updated from windows 7 pro to 10 pro with no problems.  All CM2 titles run great.  But I am having problems with the CM1 titles.  They are running very slow.  Slide show slow.  Before updating they were fine.  Anyone else having problems with CM1?

Just did some researching here and found out the old Alt-Tab trick will work.  Problem solved for now.

  2. Not to derail the current discussion but this is related.  Why is it that when you try to move a previously issued waypoint from infantry it snaps from AS to AS but sometimes when you move the AS of a vehicle it allows you to fine tune and pretty much move it where you desire?

Here you go.  If you know how to port forward then you should be able to get this to work without Hamachi.  For those of us that do not, Hamachi is a simple way to allow the connection.  I have been using it for years with no problems.

It is also a simple chat room.  pop in see who is online ask for a game.  pretty simple.

  4. when you hit the red button it saves in your outgoing folder and sends it as an EMA file.  If you want to partially take your turn, just open the incoming EMA file, do your thing and hit the save button.  When it asks you for a name just add a "xxx" to the end or something.  It will save as a BTS file as it should.  When you open it back up and finish your move, hit the little red button and then give it the correct next turn number.  This will save it as an EMA in your outgoing pbem folder ready to send to your opponent.

  5. Well more great advice, I'm learning plenty here. Thanks guys.

Bil, good point about being seen everywhere. I had not though of that. You are right I should have planned to make some noise every where. I had not thought about the different in noise level between quick and hunt. I mean I knew if would be different but I did not consider it. And I was planning to move up the road at roughly the same speed as through the forest but the mines messed that up. It is actually interesting to see the contacts he sees. It is not often that you get to see what you'd moves look like to the opposition.

Ken, yeah further not father doh! You are right I should have begun moving another team or two of engineers as soon as I saw the hedge hogs. And smoke yeah I will likely need that. I usually forget about infantry based smoke. I will check who's got if and who doesn't.

There is 'no' difference in noise levels.  Move, Quick, Fast, and Slow all make the same amount of noise.  Plus, you have to be pretty close to the enemy for a sound contact to even pop up.  I would of done exactly what you did and quick through 75% of those woods.  If you did not have armor he would not have know you were there.  Now your armor is a different story.  As soon as they started to move through those woods I guarantee he seen a noise contact.  So he knows what is coming.

  6. I have yet to see a unit ignore a CA and return fire when fired upon or hit in all titles before BS.

Like I said a unit will break arc if it goes into defense mode.  Not sure how this is determined (randomly - I guess).  I have seen a unit hit multiple times by 30mm cannon and just sit there and take it.  I have seen a unit lose its main gun from this and then break arc, pop smoke and reverse.  I have also seen a unit beak arc when lased.  I have seen a unit sit there and NOT break arc when lased.  I have seen a tanks APS intercept two or three shots and still not break arc.  I have seen a tank intercept one shot, smoke, and then break arc.  Apparently the code works so that in some situations arc should be ignored and self defense overrides it and sometimes the CA sticks.

Slow Motion hit the nail on the head:

I don't know if the code works so that in some situations arc should be ignored and self defense overrides it.

But it thinks defense means changing position or using smoke cover, but NOT using weapons which actually worked in this case.

I have yet to see a unit return fire instead of smoking out and reversing to find cover.  All of the above that I describe are random.  Nothing happens all the time.  Just so the OP is clear on his question.

  7.

I am asking because right now the game allows the unit that is ordered a cover arc to fire outside it/ignore it.

For example: if you order a tank a small cover arc and you start shooting it with another tank, you can be sure that after few seconds the tank with the cover arc will shoot back.

    From the manual_

Any enemy units outside of this target arc will be ignored (until self-preservation takes over and the Tactical AI decides to override player orders; e.g. if an enemy unit suddenly pops up at extremely short range).

In your case either the incoming fire was judged not a big risk by your tank, or the enemy was very distant, or both cases were not enough for your tank to ignore your ordered cover arc.

I believe "until self-preservation" means that your unit with the arc will try to back away or find cover from the more dangerous threat.  I have NEVER seen a vehicle with a cover arc return fire if being fired upon outside of their arc.  Please attach an example if you have one.  I would be interested in seeing that.

We used to have this in the good ole' CMX1 games.  If a vehicle had a CA and was 'spotted' by an enemy he would drop the arc and either return fire or find cover I believe.  Not sure why this was dropped from the new generation games?

Just watched the first part of ChrisND's new video on CMBS.  I am pretty sure I seen a similar situation earlier in the video but this one is of a AP round being stopped by a tree.  Does not look like this was worked on for the new game.  For the beta testers----are bushes stopping AP rounds too?  Just curious if this is even being looked at or is it a limitation of the game engine where nothing can really be done about it.  I do recall seeing an earlier vid from him showing how trees will be destroyed a lot easier so hopefully this is getting some attention.

  9. I tested 'Trident Valey', this one indeed can not transfered to the WWII games, while it works with CM:A. I was not able to solve this problem so far, but have an idea left...

However, it would be rather nice if BFC would create an unified scenario editor that loades any CM scenario and save it to the target game of choice. Shouldn't be to difficult, since it already works with a workaround mostly.

Appreciate the help Scipio.  I do agree with you on your "unified" statement.  Allowing us to play CMFI and CMRT maps in CMBN would be cool.
